First Trailer for Albert Hughes' New Film 'Alpha' Set During the Ice Age

"An enemy will become an ally." Sony Pictures has unveiled a trailer for an epic new action thriller titled Alpha, formerly known as The Solutrean (which is a very weird title so it makes sense they changed it). This is the latest feature film from Albert Hughes, who last directed The Book of Eli in 2010, and it's set during the last Ice Age - 20,000 years ago (kind of like Emmerich's 10,000 BC). This epic adventure follows the story of Zeta, played by Kodi Smit-McPhee, a young man injured on a bison hunt left for dead. He befriends a lone wolf and together they figure out how to survive in this harsh environment. So basically it's The Revenant meets 10,000 BC. The full cast includes Natassia Malthe, Leonor Varela, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, Mercedes de la Zerda, and Jens Hultén. I really, really adore wolves, so I'm already into this. But this trailer is a bit awkward,

Leonor Varela has taken a supporting role in Studio 8’s ice age epic The Solutrean from director Albert Hughes. Inspired by the controversial “solutrean hypothesis,” which advances the idea that stone age Europeans might have been among the earliest settlers of the Americas, the coming-of-age tale of survival is set 20,000 years ago. It follows a young boy injured during a hunting expedition and left for dead who must use his skills, intuition and force of will to make it…

TV Review: ‘Murder in Mexico: The Bruce Beresford-Redman Story’

TV Review: ‘Murder in Mexico: The Bruce Beresford-Redman Story’
The case of the “Survivor” producer extradited to and imprisoned in Mexico for the killing of his wife practically screams “Lifetime movie.” Yet this acquisition, “Murder in Mexico: The Bruce Beresford-Redman Story,” chronicles what happened with admirable restraint, presenting the circumstances in a manner that leaves room for alternate theories of what transpired. Tellingly, the tale has already been presented elsewhere – including on CBS’ “48 Hours” – but this straightforward account manages to dramatize these events without unfairly putting its thumb on the scales of justice.

Cutting back and forth in time, the movie introduces Beresford-Redman (Colin Egglesfield) and his wife Monica (Leonor Varela) on vacation in Cancun with their two kids. Yet what appears to be an ideal couple – she a restaurateur, he a producer on Mark Burnett series like “Survivor” and “The Contender” – is actually in the midst of turmoil. His affair with a co-worker has endangered their marriage, with

Captive Trailer: Real Actors Star in Feature-Length Ad for The Purpose Driven Life

  • Collider.com
It appears that even major studios are jumping on the Christsploitation train, and now Paramount has released the first trailer for Captive. The film stars Kate Mara as a single mom wrestling with drug addition. Her life gets harder when a criminal (David Oyelowo) goes on the run and takes her hostage after killing the judge assigned to his case. Thankfully, she’s recently been handed a copy of The Purpose Driven Life, a book by evangelical Christian author Rick Warren. Through the power of Warren’s book, the woman is able to form a connection with her captor. I’m not against religious movies, but Captive looks like a painfully cloying commercial for Warren’s book. I’m just shocked they got good actors like Mara and Oyelowo to lead when the true star appears to be The Purpose Driven Life. Perhaps they were moved by the fact that

Paramount Pictures Will Release David Oyelowo’s Captive

The rise of the award-winning David Oyelowo continues with the news that Paramount Pictures has snapped up the global distribution rights to the Selma star’s latest film, Captive. The story is based on the real events that are told in the book Unlikely Angel: The Untold Story of the Atlanta Hostage Hero, by Ashley Smith and Stacy Mattingley.

Kate Mara (House Of Cards) plays the lead role of Ashley Smith – a single mother struggling with drug addiction and a battle for custody of her daughter. Smith is thrust into the spotlight, however, when prison escapee Brian Nichols forces his way into her apartment and holds her captive for seven hours. Nichols had been awaiting trial for multiple counts of kidnapping, assault and rape of a former girlfriend, when he overpowered law enforcement officers in the courthouse and shot the judge – Rowland Barnes – and a court reporter named Julie Brandau.
