With Tanvi Azmi bringing in the 18th National award into the family, the Azmis and Akhtars have accrued a total of 18 National awards.

Informs a member of the Azmi family, "Shabana Azmi's father, Kaifi Azmi won three National awards. Ishan Arya, Shaukat Kaifi's nephew cinematographer of Garam Hawa, won a National award. Javed Akhtar won five National awards, three of them in a row. Shabana Azmi won five National Awards; she too won three of them in a row. This is the only instance of a husband-wife pair winning five awards each and doing a hat trick!"

Tabu, who is Shabana Azmi's niece, has won two National awards. Farhan Akhtar has won one National award. And now, Tanvi Azmi for Bajirao Mastani.

Vidya Balans cameo being misused to lure audience for dubbed release

12 March 2016 2:33 AM, PST | BollywoodHungama | See recent BollywoodHungama news »

This used to happen during the Amitabh Bachchan era. He made a special appearance in Agni Varsha but his face was plastered on the publicity material as that of the main lead. Before that the same happened in films like Soorma Bhopali and Andhaa Kanoon as well. Now, Vidya Balan is finding herself in the same situation, what with her presence in dubbed release Ek Yodha Shoorveer being projected as much bigger than the actual length in the film. "Ek Yodha Shoorveer releases this Friday and is a dubbed version of Malayalam film Urumi. Vidya just has a cameo in the film. She appears for a few scenes only," informs our source. However, the teaser as well as the theatrical promo of the film feature Vidya quite prominently since she is the most notable Bollywood presence in the Santosh Sivan directed affair. This isn't all as the only song that »

Fitoor Is A Beautiful And Massive Letdown – Subhash K Jha

13 February 2016 5:01 AM, PST | Bollyspice | See recent Bollyspice news »

Starring – Tabu, Katrina Kaif, Aditya Roy Kapoor and above all, Kashmir

Directed by Abhishek Kapoor

There is only one hero in Abhishek Kapoor’s massively disappointing and bogus adaptation of Charles DickensGreat Expectations. And it’s not Aditya Roy Kapoor. It’s Kashmir. The film, purported to be a romance between the bewitching Katrina Kaif and the besotted Aditya Roy Kapoor, romances just the Kashmir Valley. The rest is all mystery.

I recommend Fitoor be used to promote tourism in the Valley. As for Charles Dickens and Great Expectations, thankfully the author is not around to see how far his novel about forbidden love has been taken away from its roots.

Dickens’ title, as it turns out, proves prophetically ironic. You enter director Abhishek Kapoor’s snow-swept stunning world of stillness and turbulence, with a whole lot of expectations. You come away feeling cheated, betrayed and also angry for »

Sanam Re to release across 2000 screens

10 February 2016 6:31 AM, PST | BollywoodHungama | See recent BollywoodHungama news »

Music giant T-Series has fast emerged as a film production house to contend with. In fact after subsequent hits like Aashiqui 2, Baby, Airlift and mid to low budget money spinners like Yaariyan and Hate Story series, we hear that the production house headed by Bhushan Kumar is set to take things to the next level with their forthcoming release Sanam Re. Apparently, post the success of Airlift that released across 2000 odd screens across India, T-Series has been flooded with requests from distributors to follow a similar plan with Sanam Re, ensuring that the film will get a massive widespread release. While this will certainly boost the film's overall visibility, Sanam Re, that releases this Friday will go head to head with the Hollywood anti-superhero flick Deadpool and the Katrina Kaif, Aditya Roy Kapur and Tabu starrer Fitoor. Commenting on the same a confident Bhushan Kumar says, "Usually a romantic »

The Curse Of The Second Half Ruins A Potentially Explosive Sequel – Subhash K Jha reviews Ghayal Once Again

9 February 2016 2:22 AM, PST | Bollyspice | See recent Bollyspice news »

The first-half of Sunny Deol’s admirable but finally undone sequel to the 1990 hit Ghayal is so riveting that one is hoodwinked into believing that we are on to something remarkably well-packaged over here.

Wrong! The second-half comes on like a tornado to wipe out all the good that is achieved earlier. And initially there is plenty that is done with edge-of-the-seat heart-in-the-mouth adeptness as we are introduced to our hero 14 years after he was incarcerated for killing Balwant Rai, played by Amrish Puri in the 1990 hit Ghayal.

New era. New villain. Same hero. This time Ajay Mehra, older and far more distraught than he was 14 years ago (he is psychiatric medication) takes on a corporate tycoon named Raj Bansal, played by Narendra Jha who was so compelling as Tabu’s missing husband in Haider. Here, the rhythm required from Jha is different and he tries hard to find his bearings. »

After a splendid performance in the critically acclaimed Wazir which has gone on to become the first hit of the year Aditi Rao Hydari seems to have her hands full. She will be seen next in the much awaited film Fitoor.

The young actress will be seen essaying the role of young begum Hazrat who grows into the ‘the begum’ played by Tabu. The makers were looking for a stunning young face that could justify maturing gracefully as the story progresses and yet look beautiful for the role of the Begum. Tabu is known for her acting chops her natural beauty and grace, and Aditi was the perfect choice to embody the very same qualities of a timeless beauty…

Anyone on social media that follows Madhavan would be witness to the actor and his transformation. Someone regarded as capable but not quite a mainstream actor, Madhavan films have always met with intrigue when he is the protagonist. Saala Khadoos brings out the angry young man that Madhavan has rarely shown in Hindi cinema. After back-to-back wins with Tanu Weds Manu, »

How Kashmir will get big attention for Fitoor

4 January 2016 1:05 PM, PST | BollywoodHungama | See recent BollywoodHungama news »

"Doodh maangoge to kheer denge, Kashmir maangoge to cheer denge," was a rabble rousing dialogue that was made famous in Sunny Deol, Arbaaz Khan starrer Maa Tujhe Salaam. This dialogue finds its way into Abhishek Kapoor's ambitious Fitoor based on Charles Dickens's 'The Great Expectations'. The film is based in Kashmir and Abhishek admitted at the promo launch in Mumbai today that Tabu's character is somehow related to Pakistan . "It is not an Anti Pakistan film," he specified. I told Abhishek that Haider was based on Shakespeare's 'Hamlet' but it also had Kashmir as its backdrop and Fitoor is also having a Kashmir backdrop so is he anticipating some sort of opposition the way Haider did (it was loved by many people as well)? Abhishek replied that even Kabhi Kabhie had a Kashmir Backdrop. "I'm talking about conflict in Kashmir," I specified. Abhishek ambiguously said that »
