Piranha 3D Sequel Has Been Announced

23 August 2010 7:13 PM, PDT | GeekTyrant | See recent GeekTyrant news »

Really!? I guess I shouldn't be surprised Dimension Films has announced a sequel to Piranha 3D, but having seen the movie I really don't see any point. The movie wasn't as fun as I was expecting it to be. Sure, there was a lot of blood, guts and boobies, but I still wasn't impressed. I knew it was going to be a badly scripted movie, with bad acting, but I think the movie took itself too seriously. I'm kind of shocked the movie got such good reviews! Maybe I missed something.

But for those of you who did enjoy it and were looking forward to the sequel here ya go! Congratulations, it's happening.

Here's the official Press Release:

After earning rave reviews from top critics, wild cheers from audiences around the country, and $10 million in its opening weekend boxoffice, Dimension Films is pleased to announce that Piranha 3D – The Sequel is in the works. »

Sequel Greenlit For Killer Fish Eating Naked Girls In 3D Movie

23 August 2010 3:59 PM, PDT | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

Yesterday I saw Piranha 3D at my local AMC theater. The cost? $32 for two people. Thirty Two Dollars. For a movie. A 3D movie no less. 3D prices for a movie that looked so god awful in 3D I thought the theater had hired children to wave cardboard cutouts in front of the screen for 90 minutes. While the movie was fun and cheesy, the 3D was so Clash of the Titans bad that there were some shots where I couldn't tell what was happening. And studios and theaters are charging more for a 3D "experience"? I swear it's the biggest scam since car insurance. Whether you enjoyed Piranha 3D or not, you're gonna get more boobs, babes and killer fish with the just announced sequel. After reeling in $10 million opening weekend, and with word of mouth so positive, the film will make its money back and then some. And you »

Piranha 3D - The Sequel in the Works? Wait, Just a Minute...

23 August 2010 3:20 PM, PDT | Horrorbid | See recent Horrorbid news »

Yes our friends at Dimension films have announced a sequel for Piranha 3D but before you can say CGI fishys we want to caution you that other films (Halloween 3D, Friday The 13th: Part 2) were also planned right after they opened (all with bigger profit margins) and look at where we are on development for those films...

Below is from the official press release:

After earning rave reviews from top critics, wild cheers from audiences around the country, and $10 million in its opening weekend box office, Dimension Films is pleased to announce that Piranha 3D – The Sequel is in the works.

Piranha 3D producer Mark Canton stated, "We are thrilled that audiences are not just loving Piranha 3D, but cheering for it. And it's fantastic that so many critics are really getting the movie and recommending it. We can't wait to get to work on the sequel."

‘Piranha 3D’ Sequel Planned

23 August 2010 3:17 PM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

Piranha 3D surprised audiences and critics this weekend by actually being a good movie. The gleefully entertaining blood-filled romp made a decent $10m on a easily recoupable $24m budget. Now, on the Monday after release producer Mark Canton exclaimed they “can’t wait to get to work on the sequel.”

They already have my ticket. /Film also uncovered possible plans to head to Thailand, that director Alexandre Aja talked about:

We had many ideas. There is the Full Moon Party in Thailand, a huge event with like 200,000 young people from all around the world taking mushrooms and partying on the beach.”

Aja said they use about 1 gallon of fake blood per human and Piranha 3D had 80,000. If Piranha continues to have success I hope we can expect over double for the sequel. I’m not sure how Aja can fit in more boobs and blood, but I leave that to »

Dimension Gives Go-Ahead to Piranha 3D Sequel

23 August 2010 2:52 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Even though it landed 6th at the box office this weekend, Dimension is moving forward with a sequel to Piranha 3D.  In the press release we received, producer Mark Canton said, “We are thrilled that audiences are not just loving Piranha 3D, but cheering for it.  And it’s fantastic that so many critics are really getting the movie and recommending it.  We can’t wait to get to work on the sequel.”  I’ve personally only heard raves about the movie and that it’s gory beyond all reason.  And since Piranha 3D hardly cost any money, it’s not too much of a surprise that they’re moving forward with a sequel.

Elizabeth Shue Talks About "Piranha 3D" and Answers the Big Question -- What the Heck Is She Doing in This Movie?

18 August 2010 6:50 PM, PDT | Manny the Movie Guy | See recent Manny the Movie Guy news »

I love Elizabeth Shue! She's very sweet and a fantastic actress. So what the heck is she doing in "Piranha 3D?" In this interview, we talked about that, plus:

*** What attracted her to the role of Julie Forester

*** She explained her character and the film's plot

*** Working with Alexander Aja and the iconic actors such as Richard Dreyfuss

*** What's next for her? Certainly not "Alligator 3D" (Honestly, her upcoming films are very interesting!)

Have Fun!
