The 'Kingdom' Trailer Takes Mixed Martial Arts to the Next Level (Video)

31 July 2014 1:00 PM, PDT | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

If you thought Mixed Martial Arts were brutal enough on their own, "Kingdom" is here to prove that adding in some human drama makes the sport's stakes even higher.

The trailer for the new DirecTV series promises plenty of action both inside and outside of the Mma gym, run by Alvey "King" Kulina (Frank Grillo), described in the clip as a "legendary" fighter whose glory days seem to be behind him. Alvey is grooming his youngest son, played by former boy band star Nick Jonas, to be a master of the sport, but family turmoil with his eldest son (Jonathan Tucker, "Parenthood") threatens to topple the younger Kulina's chances.

Add in a love triangle, depictions of drug addiction, and one fighter at the Navy St. gym who's out on parole (and seems destined to be sent back to jail at any minute), and you've got the makings for a tense, »

Bryan Fuller Breaks Down The Homoerotic Charge of “Hannibal”

22 April 2014 10:34 AM, PDT | The Backlot | See recent The Backlot news »

What kind of treatment is Dr. Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) giving to Will (Hugh Dancy)?

If there’s one thing that’s true in the television landscape, the worlds created by Bryan Fuller are never boring.

His early writing career includes writing credits on Star Trek: Voyager before he went on to create and produce his own quirky shows like Wonderfalls, Dead Like Me and, of course, Pushing Daisies. And, now, there’s Hannibal, which, looking at Fuller’s previous work, makes perfect sense with its intoxicating blend of crime, horror, humor, romance and, of course, sexuality.

Yes, as you know or can guess, Hannibal is a modern-day prequel telling the story of Dr. Hannibal Lecter, who we know primarily from Anthony Hopkins’ Academy Award-wining portrayal in the film, The Silence Of The Lambs. In this TV version, which was developed from the Red Dragon novel by Thomas Harris, Lechter is younger, »

This is Our Design #5: “Mukozuke”

30 March 2014 4:23 PM, PDT | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

These might not be the droids you’re looking for, but this…is This is Our Design, Sound On Sight’s intergalactically-acclaimed Hannibal podcast. Somewhere out there, aliens are listening to co-hosts Sean Colletti and Kate Kulzick ramble on and on about serial killers and cannibalism, feeling reassured that not visiting Earth was the right call. This week, though, they can feast on the discussion with special guest Todd VanDerWerff, TV editor at The Av Club. Topics of the conversation include religious and water imagery in Hannibal, location and the inevitable mayoral race that Hannibal will take part in with the help of Jonathan Tucker. Also featured officially in this paragraph for the first time are recurring segments, “Kate’s Classical Corner” and “The Devil in the Details.” Prepare to have your minds blown (and possibly eaten, if Mads Mikkelsen gets his way). Have a listen and feel free to »

Hannibal Ep 2.05 “Mukozuke” as horrifying as it is beautiful

Hannibal Season 2, Episode 5 “Mukozuke”

Directed by Michael Rymer

Written by Ayanna A. Floyd and Steve Lightfoot & Bryan Fuller

Airs Thursdays at 10pm Et on NBC

After her encounter with Hannibal in last weeks cliffhanger, the chances of Beverly coming out alive were extremely slim. But while her death doesn’t come with much of a surprise, the reveal of her fate is shocking, to say the least. Kudos to showrunner Bryan Fuller and Battlestar Galactica’s Michael Rymer, who directed “Mukozuke,” an episode crammed with stunning and unsettling images, and a tour-de-force performance from Hugh Dancy and Laurence Fishburne.

Each and every week, Fuller and co. outdo themselves. Hannibal didn’t just kill Beverly Katz, he’s taken her kidneys, sliced her up in several pieces, and preserved her body in a grotesque tableau - a tableau which mirrors her clinical and scientific persona and that takes inspiration from the work of artist Damien Hirst. »

Review: 'Hannibal' - 'Mukozuke'

28 March 2014 8:00 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

A review of tonight's "Hannibal" coming up just as soon as my demographic is murderers and people obsessed with murderers... Early in "Mukozuke," Will Graham gets trussed up in perhaps the most iconic cinematic look for Dr. Hannibal Lecter, with a straightjacket to restrict his movement, a dolly to move him around and a bite mask to cover his mouth. He has been playing the classic role of Hannibal the Cannibal, and here he gets to wear the costume. Yet so much of this fantastic episode is there to show us the ways in which Will Graham is not like Hannibal Lecter. You can put him into the psychiatric hospital, have him advise the FBI on cases, joust with Dr. Chilton and smile creepy smiles, but he is not the man he has been framed to seem like. It's not just that he does not enjoy the thought of consuming human flesh, »

No Funny Games Here - Michael Pitt Joining NBC's Hannibal

31 January 2014 11:29 AM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

The film Funny Games may have divided the DC staff, but one thing we all agreed on: Its young star Michael Pitt was quite impressive, and we're thrilled to report he's joining NBC's "Hannibal" in a major role.

Per EW, Pitt ("Boardwalk Empire," Seven Psychopaths) is playing the character of Mason Verger, an unstable wealthy patient of Dr. Hannibal Lecter who begins a dangerous cat-and-mouse game with the deadly serial killer. The previously announced Katharine Isabelle will play Verger’s sister, Margo.

The Mason Verger role will be introduced late in the upcoming second season. Gary Oldman previously played an older version of Mason Verger in the 2001 Hannibal film, which is based on Thomas HarrisHannibal novel. NBC’s "Hannibal" timeline precedes the events in the film and is also set before the events in Thomas’ Red Dragon so this is Mason how we’ve never seen him before.
