11 Bollywood Actresses’ Pay Packages Revealed, But It’s The Men Who Are Raking In The Moolah!

14 hours ago | Bollyspice | See recent Bollyspice news »

How much Bollywood actresses get paid has remained a mystery ever since Kangana Ranaut came out strongly against the disparity in the paychecks compared to their male counterparts in the industry. While the debate did push their salaries up by some crores, the difference still remains quite apparent. Kangana recently became the highest paid actress in Bollywood when she signed a movie for Rs 11 crores. Her revised remuneration was well justified in her post Queen phase. She won a National Award for the same. But have you thought about the figure Salman Khan, the highest paid actor in Bollywood, commands? It’s more than five times – Rs 60 crores!

According to Ians, superstars Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar were a part of Forbes first global list of actors. The trio ranked among the world’s top ten highest-paid actors, which included Hollywood to Hong Kong and Bollywood. While the »

'Mockingjay Part 2' Takes Franchise Low of $101 Million

22 November 2015 11:19 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Back in July 2012, Lionsgate confirmed that Suzanne Collins' final Hunger Games novel will be split into a two-part movie. The decision, which came just months after The Hunger Games franchise launched, angered many fans of the books, and it seems that strategy may have backfired. Box Office Mojo reports that The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 took the top spot at the box office with $101 million, the lowest opening weekend of all four movies.

The $101 million opening weekend is far lower than many box office projections, many of which predicted the franchise finale would earn around $120 million. The Hunger Games opened in 2012 with $152.5 million, followed by 2013's The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, which opened with a franchise-high $158 million, and last year's The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 with $121.8 million. The franchise has taken in $2.2 billion worldwide since opening just three years ago, and while The Hunger Games: Mockingjay »

YouTube India content chief: avoid 'Syndrome 52'

21 November 2015 8:38 PM, PST | ScreenDaily | See recent ScreenDaily news »

YouTube India content chief Satya Raghavan explained how Indian filmmakers can bypass theatrical windows and create content for YouTube and other digital platforms, at the opening session of Film Bazaar’s Knowledge Series yesterday.

Raghavan talked about “Syndrome 52” – India’s notoriously crowded theatrical releasing calendar – and encouraged filmmakers to explore short films, web series and features for digital distribution.

“There’s only 52 weekends in a year and Salman Khan and other stars take six to eight of those. But the good news is that there are a lot of digital platforms coming of age that provide opportunities to get your talent out there and recognised.”

Raghavan added there’s already been a huge rise in short films and web series as Indian filmmakers explore new forms of story-telling. Yash Raj Films recently created the Man’s World web series with Richard Curtis’ Project Everyone, while Sujoy Ghosh’s short film Ahalya went viral on YouTube earlier this year »

Box Office – Salman and Sooraj’s Prem Ratan Dhan Payo set to enter 200 Crore Club

21 November 2015 3:18 AM, PST | Bollyspice | See recent Bollyspice news »

After its (extended) first week run, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo has turned out to be the fourth best ever in the history of Bollywood. With around 8.5 crore* more coming in, the film has now crossed the 174 crore* mark. This makes it sit amongst the biggest, what with Dhoom 3 [188 crore], Bajrangi Bhaijaan [184.62 crore] and Pk [183 crore] being the only films that did better.

Yes, this is an outcome of 8 day long week but even if one considers the first 7 days, collections are higher than next best flicks like Kick [164.21 crore], Chennai Express [156.71 crore] and Happy New Year [152 crore].

The film did go down on Monday when compared to its terrific Friday [40.35 crore]. However ever since then, the collections have been stable between Monday to Thursday. The Salman Khan starrer gains from the fact that there is no new mainstream Hindi release this weekend. Moreover, the reports of Spectre aren’t terrific either, which means another huge run like Furious 7, »

Nawazuddin Siddiqui with Sunny Leone This weve got to see

21 November 2015 2:30 AM, PST | BollywoodHungama | See recent BollywoodHungama news »

The last one year has seen the emergence of Nawazuddin Siddiqui as a formidable scene-stealer equally adept at holding his own with Salman Khan in Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Varun Dhawan in Badlapur. But playing the strong supporting parts is not enough for Nawaz. He wants to play the conventional hero and wants to do be cast opposite glamorous heroines. One filmmaker who seems quite sold on the idea is Salman's brother Sohail. With superstar-bro Salman unable to spare dates in the near future, Sohail has turned to Nawaz and decided to cast him as a suave dapper nattily dressed urban hero. So far Nawaz has excelled only in playing rebels from under-privileged classes and he doesn't relish it. I remember Nawaz's asli glee when he had been cast as a sophisticated investigative officer in Sujoy Ghosh's Kahaani. Now it's time for an all-out attempt to change Nawaz's image. Sohail's »

Box Office – Sajid Nadiadwala, Imtiaz Ali, Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone combo to work next with Tamasha

20 November 2015 1:14 AM, PST | Bollyspice | See recent Bollyspice news »

This Friday, there is no mainstream commercial Hindi film release. X: Past is Present is the sole release of the week and it is an experimental affair with 10 directors shooting it while utilizing an elaborate cast. Though there are names like Rajat Kapoor, Huma Qureshi, Radhika Apte, Swara Bhaskar and Anshuman Jha featuring in there, surprisingly the promotion has been near to zilch. Furthermore, there would be very limited release of the film in select pockets, which makes its box office prospects entirely dependent upon word of mouth.

All of this means that Tamasha is now the most awaited film of the season. The Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone starrer carries a distinct appeal and given the hype around the two young stars, one is rest assured that youth would be pretty much enticed to give it a dekko. In fact producer Sajid Nadiadwala and director Imtiaz Ali have come »

Yuvraj-Hazel come clean about their relationship when will Ranveer-Deepika go public

After Harbhajan Singh, it is time for another national-level cricketer to hitch his wagon with a starlet.

While Harbhajan's chosen one is Geeta Basra (last seen as Gippy Grewal's tyrannical ex-wife in Second-Hand Husband), Yuvraj Singh's choice is intriguing. Hazel Keech is a Bollywood starlet of British origin whose main claim to fame is her role as Kareena Kapoor's foxy friend in Bodyguard who walks off with Salman Khan in the end. Hazel also performed an item song in a long-forgotten film Maximum where she danced to the chartbuster 'Aa anthe amlapuram'.

During the shooting of Bodyguard, Hazel was seen in Salman's company and she was rumored to be his latest firangi flame. Salman and Hazel completely denied these rumours.

In 2013, Hazel went into 'Bigg Boss' and came out within two weeks fuming about the lack of inadequate food, water and hygiene in the 'Bigg Boss' house. »

Sajid Nadiadwala to make it 11 in a row with ‘Tamasha’?

19 November 2015 1:05 AM, PST | Bollyspice | See recent Bollyspice news »

It was way back in 2006 when Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar starrer Jaan-e-Mann had released. A well made film, it couldn’t cover much distance due to its heads-on clash with Shahrukh Khan’s Don. This was the last time when producer Sajid Nadiadwala went home disappointed.

9 years, 10 films and around 800 crore at the Box Office later, he is enjoying a golden run, what with each of his subsequent films tuning out to be a good commercial success. Now one looks forward to his next release Tamasha making it 11 in a row.

Comments a trade source, “It has been a dream outing for Sajid. Period. Just look at the films he has put together in these years. With Heyy Babyy, Housefull and Housefull 2, he made three clean hits with Akshay Kumar and director Sajid Khan. In fact Akshay also enjoyed his biggest opening of that time with Kambakkth Ishq. »

17 November 2015 8:47 AM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Sony's Spectre has helped breathe new life into the sagging box office since opening on November 6, which has taken in $128.9 million in its first two weeks of release. Actress and international fashion icon, Sonam Kapoor, has much reason to celebrate as she was lauded for her performance in what could only be described as her career’s biggest film this far, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo.

The actress turned into the quintessential Sooraj Barjatya heroine in the family drama opposite superstar Salman Khan and impressed audiences and the trade alike, with her performance in the film.

All praise for Sonam says Taran Adarsh, “First of all to be cast opposite Salman Khan in a Sooraj Barjatya film is a big achievement. Sonam is not a decorative piece in the film, she has acted really well. Initially when the cast was announced people had raised eyebrows but then everyone saw how lovely a couple she and Salman made as Prem and Maithali. There is no stopping this girl. She has a very bright future.”

Box Office – ‘Prem’ Salman and ‘Ratan’ Sooraj ‘Dhan Layo’ for Rajshri and Fox

Salman Khan is on a roll. He has managed to strike yet again, and that too in a big way, with Prem Ratan Dhan Payo scoring heavily in its extended four day weekend run. If the opening day (40.35 crore) was fantastic, the next three days were stupendous as well – Friday (31.05 cr), Saturday (30.07 cr), Sunday (28.3 cr). As a result, the film scored quite heavily, what with the collections hitting the 129.77 crore mark.

In the process, the film has managed to find its way into the record books. These are the highest collections ever for a film in its first four days. The record holders are as below:

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo: 129.77 crore

Bajrangi Bhaijaan: 129.65 crore

Dhoom 3: 129.32 crore

Happy New Year: 119 crore

Pk: 116.43 crore

Now that’s indeed superb for a film that has seen mixed reviews coming its way with audiences divided as well. However, for its target family segment, »

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo review – Salman Khan's sensitive side on show

16 November 2015 3:59 AM, PST | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

He’s trying hard to appease, and playing two roles gives Salman Khan a chance to explore his emotions in a sumptuous Diwali treat with wit and substance

The nature of public accusation and counter-accusation may mean that Salman Khan can never appease his fiercest critics, but give him this at least: he’s trying hard. Khan owned the summer season upon pairing with an adorable child for July’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan, and he’ll surely maintain that box-office dominance with the postmodern fairytale Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. Here is both a sumptuous Diwali treat and another object lesson in the power of mediated fantasy to overturn anything so piffling or painful as reality: for three hours, this charm offensive successfully returns us to the company of the planet’s most likable fellow.
