Black List Celebrates 10 Years as Haven for Screenwriters

19 November 2014 10:00 AM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

In a business where the highest praise is often reserved for directors and stars, the Black List aims to be a haven for writers — an archive where the creators of concept, characters and content are given their due.

Perhaps the best testament to the credibility and effectiveness of the list, an annual compilation of Hollywood’s most popular unproduced screenplays, is that it’s celebrating its 10th anniversary. Out of the 970 scripts it has included over the past decade, 270 have been produced. Among that 28% to hit the bigscreen, nearly 200 (or 74%) received Oscar nominations, three of the last six won best picture and eight of the last 14 were voted best screenplay. The collective box office bounty generated by those productions totals $23.2 billion.

Even in an ever-shrinking movie market, with theater attendance on the downswing and studios releasing fewer pictures — predominantly franchisable event movies and superhero spectacles — the Black List has remained »

What Ben Affleck Made Up About Argo, According To The CIA

11 November 2014 4:20 PM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Ben Affleck.s Argo is widely regarded as one of the best films of 2012. That.s what picking up the Best Picture Academy Award does for a movie. But how much did it actually get right? The CIA has decided to answer that question for us. Ben Affleck.s political thriller - which revolves around Tony Mendez.s rescue of six U.S. diplomats who had become stuck in Iran during the 1979-1981 hostage crisis - is a tense, relentless and thought-provoking re-creation, but along the way the film took some dramatic license to tell its tale. Now, the Central Intelligence Agency has taken to Twitter to reveal exactly what Ben Affleck.s film and Chris Terrio.s screenplay got wrong. They did this by prefixing each tweet with either "Reel" or "Real." What to know what they got right and wrong? Well have a look below. Reel #Argo: »

Now, the sheer size of the comic book movie-making world has reached a critical mass. There are now seven such films (at least) slated for every year between 2016 and 2019. There’s also a few confirmed for 2020 already, »

"Justice" Villain, "Suicide Squad" Rumors

10 October 2014 8:32 PM, PDT | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

Two quite juicy rumors regarding major DC film projects have gone online today over at Latino Review.

First up, they say they can confirm that "Argo" and "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" scribe Chris Terrio is writing the script. They also have heard details about who may be the villain:

"Brainiac is going to be the bad guy in Justice League. The set-up of it is cool. Remember the Kryptonian beacon in Man of Steel, that Clark set off, that brought Zod to Earth? Brainiac heard it as well"

The Superman nemesis marks a change from the rumored inclusion of Darkseid as the main baddie for the "Justice League" film. The site claims the film's producers are "pushing him [Darkseid] towards later."

The site also claims they have the line-up of the seven villains that will make up the 'Suicide Squad' in Warners' proposed movie about the DC comic bad guys. »
