Brendan Fraser Stars In Oddball Irish Stick-Up Flick.
It’s hard to get a bead on Brendan Fraser. In a way, it always has been. At the outset of his career, he certainly seemed to be part of the latter-day Tiger Beat crowd, lumped into the Sean Astin strata of notoriety.
The only flick of his that I really remember taking a liking to was Blast from the Past, with Fraser, Alicia Silverstone, and Christopher Walken. In that flick, Brendan plays a guy in his late teens/early twenties, who was raised in a bomb shelter by his doomsday prepper dad (Walken). The role fit Fraser more or less like a glove, allowing him to showcase whatever that wholesome thing is that people love so much.
Almost from the very beginning of his career, Fraser has never been out of work for long. Roles in larger films have afforded him »

Chloe Moretz has been keeping busy lately, clearly determined to separate herself from the rest of the child acting pact. She’s played a hit-girl, a vampire and gun-slinging teenager.
The young actress is in negotiations to play a zombie opposite in Maggie, a film which tells of a father (Paddy Considine) living in a zombie apocalypse who stills loves his daughter (Moretz) even though she is a zombie [Variety].
Interesting twist to a quickly-tiring subgenre. Considine played an oddly similar role in Jim Sheridan’s brilliant In America, while Moretz seems to be enjoying playing a little crazy, as she’s also in line to star alongside Julianne Moore as the titular telekinetic in a Carrie remake.
Henry Hobson, a commercial director, is set to make his feature debut, working with a budget around of $10 million. The film will sell at Cannes and is set to begin production in September. »

New York – In both his own films and his collaborations with Jim Sheridan, screenwriter-turned-director Terry George has invariably been drawn to serious subject matter, covering the Troubles in Northern Ireland (In the Name of the Father, The Boxer), the corrosive aftermath of family tragedy (Reservation Road), and true stories of an Ira hunger striker (Some Mother’s Son) or heroism in the midst of genocide (Hotel Rwanda). He takes an abrupt turn toward the light in Whole Lotta Sole. The calculatedly charming crime comedy could use a tad more vitality in its central character, played by Brendan Fraser,

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo; Dream House; Black Pond; Acts of Godfrey
When Rooney Mara picked up an Oscar nomination for her punchy central performance in David Fincher's American remake of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (2011, Sony, 18), one question hung awkwardly in the air: how come Noomi Rapace wasn't similarly honoured for her equally impressive turn as cyberpunk Lisbeth Salander in the original Scandinavian movie a couple of years earlier? Adapted from the first of Stieg Larsson's posthumously bestselling Millennium trilogy, Niels Arden Oplev's modestly budgeted thriller made a European star of the mercurial Rapace, who went on to feature in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and is soon to be seen headlining Ridley Scott's eagerly anticipated sci-fi epic Prometheus. It's hard not to conclude that, while Rapace delivered her dialogue in Swedish, Mara was feted for performing essentially the same role in »
