For the uninitiated, “synthwave” is an electronic style of music heavily influenced by the 80’s, video games, and artists like John Carpenter or Vangelis. In recent years, this retro sound has been making a major comeback and a whole slew of new artists are emerging, re-creating a sound so many of us have longed for. With films like It Follows and The Guest adopting the sound, it was only a matter of time before TV shows did the same, just listen to the phenomenal soundtrack to Stranger Things. Director Denis Villeneuve on ‘Blade Runner 2049’ Pressures, Why ‘Dune’ Is the ‘Project of His Life’

Director Denis Villeneuve says he’s been in two “parallel universes” the last several months, promoting his Oscar-nominated film “Arrival” and soaking up the awards season adulation, while also shooting and then editing his next project, the hugely ambitious “Blade Runner 2049.”

Speaking recently on Variety‘s “Playback” podcast, Villeneuve called the sequel to Ridley Scott’s revered 1982 original the riskiest project of his career.

“I feel [the pressure] every day,” Villeneuve says. “At the same time, I’ve never been that inspired and excited. I love risk. All of my projects have come with a certain amount of artistic risk, or sometimes a risk of how you portray reality. I did a movie once about a school massacre and I had a huge responsibility to the victims of those events. Blade Runner Gets a Fan-Made Prequel and It's Amazing

This fall, fans will get to return to the dystopian world of Blade Runner with the highly-anticipated sequel Blade Runner 2049, which brings back Harrison Ford as Rick Deckard. For those who simply can't wait until October for this new film, South African filmmaker Christopher Grant Harvey has debuted an incredible 11-minute fan film entitled Tears in the Rain, which serves as a "loose prequel" to the original Blade Runner. While this film doesn't feature Rick Deckard or any of the other characters in the original, it's certainly set within this unique world, with the film taking place in "21st Century Los Angeles."
