Brother of Alain Sarde

According to Bertrand Tavernier, Marco Ferreri based some of the eccentricities of the characters in La Grande Bouffe on Sarde. Gluttony was not one of them, however: always changing his mind about his order in restaurants, the table would soon fill up with several uneaten dishes.

Tavernier also credits Sarde with helping him restructure the editing of sequences in many of his films. "He's a magnificent spectator. He knows how to see a film, analyse it, and make judgements that are precise and warm. He immediately gives a sharp look at the bones of a film, or just a simple sequence, and he puts his finger on what's wrong. On several occasions he's caused me to simplify a construction."
