With a tumbler full of holiday cheer, Stephen Colbert turned to Mavis Staples, Sean Lennon, Jeff Tweedy and the Harlem Gospel Choir to close out "Christmas Carol Week" on The Colbert Report with "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)." Staples took the lead on the John Lennon/Yoko Ono classic while Tweedy and Lennon strummed acoustic guitars and the choir provided rich backing vocals and, on the last chorus, rhythmic handclaps. After chiming in earlier this week with Elvis Costello and Diana Krall, and Michael Stipe and Mandy Patinkin, Colbert gave »

The three finalists still in the running to win The X Factor next week have been revealed. A night after Fifth Harmony reminded voters not to count them out just yet, Tate Stevens rocked the house and Emblem3 sang Paul McCartney just a little bit better than Carly Rose Sonenclar sang John Lennon, there were no guarantees left. Except that, no matter which way the chips fell, a group was assured a spot in the finale for the first time. So, where did the chips fall? As they sang last night, anything can happen. Fifth Harmony was the first act sent through to the finals—and we've never seen Simon Cowell so happy! For the record, we've also never seen such a »
There may not be a front-runner following Wednesday's semi-finals on The X Factor, but there does seem to be a weakest link. Most of the judges seemed down on girl group Fifth Harmony, whose rendition of Shontelle's "Impossible" left them wanting more, following a better performance of Ellie Goulding's "Anything Could Happen." Britney Spears, Demi Lovato and L.A. Reid were all doubtful of Fifth Harmony's chances to be one of the three acts in the finals, with only Simon Cowell defending them, saying, "You've been one of the strongest acts tonight." Not that the other performers were slouches. Tate »

Courtney Love is said to have been unimpressed by the surviving members of Nirvana's collaboration with Sir Paul McCartney at this week's Concert for Sandy Relief. Kurt Cobain's ex-wife reportedly said that the late John Lennon would have been a more suitable accompaniment for the band than his fellow Beatle, TMZ reports. The website quotes the former Hole singer as saying she was "not amused" by the performance, adding that "if John were alive it would be cool". McCartney took to the stage with Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic at (more) »

Barring an early Mayan apocalypse, we all know that Tate Stevens and Carly Rose Sonenclar will make it to the X Factor finale, so there's not much to discuss there. The real race is between Simon Cowell's two remaining groups, Emblem3 and Fifth Harmony, as there's seemingly room for only one of them.
The thing is, we won't actually know who's bringing up the rear after this next elimination because the leaderboard is now officially in "blackout" mode, meaning they won't be revealing how the numbers shake out in »
Britney Spears certainly wasn't shy about showing off her fabulous figure on The X Factor Dec. 12. Rocking a skintight, neon yellow Herve Leger bandage dress and matching platform plumps, the "Scream and Shout" singer wore her blonde hair down and added a smokey eye. During the show, Spears cheered on her final contestant, Carly Rose Sonenclar, who performed covers of Elton John's "Your Song" and John Lennon's "Imagine." While judges L.A. Reid, Demi Lovato and Simon Cowell were divided on the 13-year-old's performances, they all agreed she [...] »

Tonight, 911 hotlines across the nation experienced system overloads as L.A. Reid committed first-degree blasphemy on The X Factor, lying to boy band Emblem3 that “you actually are teen heartthrobs like the Beatles.”
At the exact same moment, John Lennon and George Harrison pressed the “auto rotation” buttons in their graves (sponsored by Pepsi, Verizon wireless and Sony X Headphones). Hey, if Britney Spears doesn’t need to write her own critiques, why should two dearly departed members of the planet’s all-time most influential rock band have to spin themselves around when their names get taken in vain on Fox’s second-tier reality singing competition? »

The former member of The Beatles joins Dave Grohl, Pat Smear and Krist Novoselic for the 12-12-12 show. And Love tells TMZ she is "not amused" by the choice. Love thinks the only Beatle that could have filled Cobain's shoes was John Lennon.
"Look, if John were alive it would be cool," she tells the website.
The band will be playing a brand new song they wrote together. It's unclear if they will cover classic Nirvana songs.
The group is reportedly performing a new song that McCartney has been »
A new mashup video has been released of Yoko Ono 'performing' a cover of Katy Perry's 'Firework'. The clip in question sees the widow of John Lennon giving an avant-garde performance at the Museum of Modern Art, titled 'Voice Piece for Soprano & Wish Tree' in 2010. However, the performance has been given a new piano backing of Perry's worldwide hit by YouTube (more) »

So sad. The former sitar player of The Beatles died Dec. 11 at 92 years old, following complications from his heart surgery. The world has lost another musical legend. Two days after Grammy Award-winning singer Jenni Rivera died in a tragic plane crash, the former sitar player of The Beatles, Ravi Shankar, has died in San Diego, Calif. He was suffering from heart problems. Ravi became a hippie icon in the 1970s when he began performing with The Beatles, as few people fully appreciated the sitar, and he is credited with introducing Eastern influences to Western music. He also is the father of singer-songwriter Norah Jones. Ravi became friends with Paul McCartney, Ringo Star, John Lennon and George Harrison in the 1960s. He is originally from India, and the late George called him the "the godfather of world music," after he introduced centuries of old Indian music to rock and jazz lovers in the '70s. »

When you are haunted, the secret reveals more.
It sounds like nonsense, and it might be nonsense coming from some manufactured modern pop music star.
But it’s all part of the considered methodology of We Have a Ghost (WHaG), whose first album, “Debut”, dropped on Halloween.
We Have a Ghost is one person, and yet legion. As Ghost himself says, “It’s not ‘I have a ghost’, it’s We”. It’s akin to the Plastic Ono Band. John Lennon used to say everyone was a member of the band (“You are the Plastic Ono Band”), although I never saw my name on an album cover. In this digital age, WhaG has made sure his audience is an intimate part of what he does, and yes, your name just might wind up on his album cover. Or at least the credits.
To begin with, who is ‘he’? No one knows. »
