Shaun Of The Dead plays this weekend (April 21st and 22nd) at the Tivoli as part of their Reel Late at the Tivoli Midnight series.
Shaun (Simon Pegg) and Ed (Nick Frost) are two twenty-something slacker roommates. Shaun spends his days working, playing video games, and hanging out at the pub. Ed does pretty much the same thing, except for the working part. Shaun’s world takes a turn for the worse when, sensing that their life is going nowhere, his girlfriend Liz breaks up with him. Then things really get bad when zombies start showing up in his neighborhood (and everywhere else).

The previous two issues of Marvel’s latest company-wide crossover were all about the action, as the combined heroes of the Marvel universe fought off a never-ending tirade of giant extraterrestrial monsters. While there’s still a lot of biff-bang-pow for your buck this issue, Monsters Unleashed #3 also takes time to work through some plot points. Unfortunately, it also loses a bit of its momentum in the process.
The first half of the issue deals with the fun twist on the cliffhanger from last time. The second wave of monsters that have arrived on Earth are actually a bunch of classic Marvel creatures – including Fing Fang Foom and Tim Boo Ba (Google it, newbies) – who have come to protect the planet from these imposters to their throne. Another Hollywood great passed away today, as the entertainment community mourns the loss of Miguel Ferrer. The character actor was best known for his roles on Twin Peaks, Crossing Jordan and, most recently, NCIS: Los Angeles. He died today at the age of 61. The actor had been battling cancer for quite some time before succumbing to the disease.
