The Vine: Showtime may book 'Arrested'

14 December 2005 | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

Will the pay TV environs of Showtime be a friendlier place for the Emmy-winning comedy Arrested Development? Word around town this week is that Showtime is in talks with Arrested producers 20th Century Fox TV and Imagine TV about picking up the comedy from creator/executive producer Mitch Hurwitz. Sources stressed that the talks are still exploratory and that it would be a big financial commitment on Showtime's part to pick up the show in its current form with a large ensemble cast that includes Jason Bateman, Jeffrey Tambor, Portia de Rossi, Jessica Walter and Will Arnett. Arrested was an instant hit with critics following its debut on Fox in late 2003, but the show never could pull in much of a crowd during its run on Fox Broadcasting Co., even after it won the Emmy for best comedy series in 2004. Last month, Fox threw in the towel, cutting its episode order for Arrested's third season from its initial 22-episode ticket to 13 (HR 11/11). Reps for Showtime, 20th and Imagine declined comment late Tuesday. »

De Rossi "Outed" by 'Ally McBeal' Co-Star

15 September 2005 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Actress Portia De Rossi decided to go public with her sexuality after Ally McBeal castmate Greg Germann outed her in a New York bar. The Australian blonde was still struggling to come to terms with the fact she was a lesbian when perceptive Germann, who played her boss on the legal series, guessed that she was hiding her sexuality. She recalls, "I'd been on the show for about two months before we had to go to New York to do press, and Greg Germann and I were talking in the bar one night and he said, 'There's something about you I can't quite put my finger on... Are you gay?' Of course, I stammered and stuttered, and looked at the ground and went, 'Uh... uh... uh... maybe, I don't know. I think so. I'm not sure.' He looked at me and said, 'Have you struggled with it...?' That was so profound." A couple of years after her heart to heart with Germann, De Rossi went public with her romance with Ringo Starr's stepdaughter Francesca Gregorini after the couple were caught by the paparazzi in 2001. She recalls, "Every single family member, every person I worked with, everybody knew all at once. There was no turning back, and it was a relief." »

DeGeneres: 'De Rossi Is Forever'

24 May 2005 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

American comedienne Ellen DeGeneres is convinced new girlfriend Portia De Rossi is 'the one' after several broken relationships. The chat show host, who won a handful of Daytime Emmy Awards on Friday, ended her four-year relationship with photographer Alexandra Hedison to be with De Rossi in December. DeGeneres high-profile coupling with Anne Heche ended in 2000, when the Psycho actress left the comic for cameraman Coley Laffoon - now her husband. DeGeneres gushes to America's Allure magazine, "I pray that Portia and I are together the rest of our lives. I never thought my life would have turned out this way. To have money. Or to have a gorgeous girlfriend. I just feel so lucky with everything in my life right now." »

Portia De Rossi Erases Tattoo of Ex's Name

15 April 2005 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Former Ally McBeal star Portia De Rossi is shedding a tattoo with her former partner's initials, after embarking on a romance with comedienne Ellen DeGeneres. The tattoo, which is on De Rossi's ring finger, was meant to show her commitment to her now ex-girlfriend, singer-songwriter Francesca Gregorini. De Rossi, 32, and Gregorini, who is the stepdaughter of former Beatle Ringo Starr, dated for three years, until they spilt late last year. De Rossi recently told Details magazine of her plans to have the tattoo removed, "I'm not saying it's anything I regret doing, because I don't, but it just doesn't make any sense now." Shortly after her break-up with Gregorini, de Rossi and talk show host DeGeneres became a couple. Late last year, DeGeneres's girlfriend of four years, photographer Alexandra Hedison, reportedly moved out of the couple's Hollywood Hills home. »

De Rossi Gives DeGeneres Wedding Ring

31 January 2005 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Portia De Rossi has given lover Ellen DeGeneres a Tiffany wedding band as a symbol of her devotion to the comedienne - and bought herself a matching ring. The Arrested Development actress gave the band to DeGeneres on her 47th birthday after only a two month courtship. De Rossi walked out on long-term partner Francesca Gregorini to be with the funnywoman last month. A source told gossip website Pagesix.Com, "It signifies their commitment to each other." However, the happy couple are unlikely to hold a ceremony to celebrate their union because gay marriages are illegal in California and they would want official recognition. Meanwhile, De Rossi is having laser treatment to remove a tattoo of the initials 'Fg' from her wedding finger - Gregorini has a similar tattoo which the pair had done to signify their devotion. »

DeGeneres Ex-Lover Seeks Double Revenge

10 January 2005 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

The former girlfriend of Ellen DeGeneres is considering legal action against both the comedienne and her new lover, Ally McBeal actress Portia De Rossi. Chat show host DeGeneres ended her four-year relationship with photographer-director Alexandra Hedison last month and is now sharing her Hollywood mansion with De Rossi, who recently split up with Ringo Starr's step-daughter Francesca Gregorini. Hedison is now planning to take palimony action against DeGeneres, and is reportedly suing De Rossi for "alienation of affection" - a legal phrase dating back to when seducing a spouse was regarded as theft. However, Richard Barry from the American Academy Of Matrimonial Lawyers tells British newspaper The Sunday Times this could be difficult to prove: "She would have to prove the seduction took place in those states which still recognize the law, like on holiday in Hawaii. If she can do that, she could cause a lot of financial damage." »
