In this real estate market it takes more than a famous name to bump up the price of a home.
It’s more conventional perks like location and amenities that push the price of celebrity homes higher, not the famous name attached with the property, according to the Los Angeles Times. Recently several celebrities have had to trim the asking price of their homes.
Meg Ryan, for example, recently listed her home at a 42 percent price cut from its 2008 listing price, according to the La Times. Penelope Cruz likewise recently sold her home for $807,000 less than she asked for.
Celebrities aren't the only ones who have been forced to accept lower prices for their homes in recent years. Though home prices rose in more than half of metro areas during the first three months of this year, the uptick followed six years of declines, according to the Wall Street Journal. »

Ryan Seacrest has bought Ellen DeGeneres and Portia De Rossi's $49 million Beverly Hills mansion. The 'American Idol' host - who is dating 'Rock of Ages' star Julianne Hough - is thought to have paid within a few million dollars of the massive asking price with the deal agreed and set to close this week, according to gossip website TMZ.com. New York, May 16: Ryan Seacrest has splashed out 49 million dollars on Ellen DeGeneres' Beverly Hills estate, which is reportedly "within a couple of million dollars" of the asking price.
According to TMZ.com, DeGeneres and her wife, actress Portia de Rossi, paid 29 million dollars in 2007 for the property. They expanded the home to 9,500 square feet and bought the two neighbouring properties, creating a pond, the New York Daily News reported.
There are also two guest houses and a separate three-bedroom house on the grounds.

British TV personality Amanda de Cadenet debuted "The Conversation" last week, a new show on Lifetime where she sits down with famous women for in-depth, candid interviews about their lives and work.
During the premiere episode, actress Zoe Saldana opened up about the struggle for equality that still exists in this country for women.
"When was it that this decision was made where I was going to be told that I have an equal participation in life, in rights and ideals and everything, but in reality, I wasn't going to be able to exercise them at all?," says Saldana. "You're told all the time, we're equals ... but then you realize, no, actually, we're not. You're paid more than I, you get to have more options ... It's about trying to feel significant, trying to feel equal."

Celebrities came out to celebrate the 23rd annual Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) Media Awards on Saturday (April 21) in Los Angeles to honor outstanding images of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (Lgbt) community in the media.
Ellen DeGeneres opened the show and attended with wife, Portia de Rossi. A Q&A session with Netflix’s Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos at the upcoming Nab Show will feature Arrested Development creator Mitch Hurwitz and several cast members of the cult Fox comedy series, which is producing a new season for the streaming giant. Scheduled to appear are Will Arnett, Jeffrey Tambor, David Cross, Jessica Walter and Alia Shawkat. I’ve learned that none of the Arrested Development actors have deals to return yet but negotiations are going smoothly and filming is expected to begin in the summer. As for the absence of stars Jason Bateman, Portia de Rossi, Michael Cera and Tony Hale, sources chalk it up to unavailability, not to any any issues with their negotiations. Well, now we know how Victoria's Secret Angel and Most Beautiful Person Miranda Kerr stays in shape.
The supermodel, who's mom to 15-month-old Flynn, stopped by "Ellen" on Monday and revealed that baby Flynn is already clocking in at 35 pounds.
We're not surprised that Flynn is an adorable chubster, though: he weighed 10 lbs. at birth, and Kerr says she was in labor for 27 hours.
Miranda also brought Ellen a special gift: one of Victoria's Secret's brand new bikinis, which Ellen admits might end up on her wife, Portia de Rossi, instead of on her.
But in return, Ellen may have even outdone Miranda's gift, bringing out a Huge baby carrier shaped like one of the Vs's iconic angel wings.
