Ghild : Full Short Film and Q&A With Director David Yarovesky

2 May 2012 4:51 AM, PDT | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

Hey kiddos, Melissa here… and I have a short film that you have to see! Ghild, from Rose and Bomb Productions in association with Yarvo Productions, is a fairy tale for the giant child in all of us.

Ghild stars Michael Rosenbaum as Brauly Gullivan, an 8-year-old boy who has grown abnormally larger than those in his community. As Brauly struggles to fit in, his parents find raising a giant child, or Ghild, to be rather difficult.

You can watch Ghild in its entirety here:

Interview with Director David (Yarvo) Yarovesky

How did you and Michael Rosenbaum come up with the concept of Ghild? How did the idea come about?

Yarvo: Well I should say that me, Rosenbaum, and Rob Danson all created Ghild. We all talked about doing something and when we got in a room, we started talking about a friend of Rosey’s who has a »

Our 9 Favorite Movie Stoners

20 April 2012 8:00 AM, PDT | NextMovie | See recent NextMovie news »

The numbers 4-20 have tons of significance in both world history and American culture. It's Hitler's birthday and the date of the Columbine massacre, for starters.

But since those two are such buzzkills, we'll focus on what else the date means: high time for stoners everywhere.

Looking back at our favorite stoner films, we notice many actors portray potheads one-dimensionally: eyes glazed, dopey voice, etc. We love the following movie stoners because they're not only funny, but also multidimensional.

Okay, but mostly because they're funny.

9. Brad Pitt, 'True Romance' (1993)

Floyd is the ultimate slacker stoner. Pitt plays the character as being so high he barely forms words outside of mumbling, "Hey! Get some beer and some cleaning products." His scenes provide great comedic relief in an otherwise rough and violent movie.

We relate because we've had nightmarishly lazy roommates like Floyd. The scenes are twice as funny now in hindsight, »

Andy Serkis and Ben Foster Make Plans for Directorial Debuts; Gregg Araki’s New Project Announced

15 February 2012 9:27 AM, PST | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

I’m not sure how much of a “debut” this will prove to be for Andy Serkis — the guy’s got some heavy-lifting at the moment with second unit work on The Hobbit, if you don’t remember — but we all know that the multi-faceted talent can do whatever the hell we wants. And ScreenDaily informs us that he will indeed take the plunge with his “passion project,” which has Sam Tromans and his Sts producing. Along with Jonathan Cavendish, Serkis will produce through his own company, Imaginarium.

Currently untitled, the drama is “a period love story” that, somehow, could be described as “The English Patient up a mountain.” (Should we even take Tromans‘ note of “a fantastic script with a great female role” as anything other than sage council? I think not.) Who knows what that all might entail; just consider me interested as a regular admirer of his great work. »

Michael Rosenbaum Recalls Old Days

14 February 2012 7:41 PM, PST | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

He spent a few years paying his dues on TV as Lex Luthor in Smallville, and he's snagged a few movie roles here and there. But now Michael Rosenbaum is stepping up to direct his first full-length film, Old Days. He’ll step in front of the camera too, starring as Jim Owens, a frustrated actor who returns home from the bright lights of Hollywood to the slightly dimmer pastures of Indiana and his 15th high school reunion. Naturally, there are complications as Jim gets into trouble with his old friends and rediscovers his feelings for his high school sweetheart (Morena Baccarin, most recently seen in Us telly drama Homeland).Rosenbaum has also recruited Sarah Colonna, Harland Williams and Jay Ferguson for the film, which he’ll kick off shooting early next month. While it’ll be his first spin behind the camera for a film, he’s already got »

Randall of the Honey Badger video talks animated series in the works

3 February 2012 6:34 AM, PST | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

Zap2it recently spoke with Randall, the man behind the hilarious and now infamous honey badger video, for which Randall provides the lively narration. Since the video went viral, Randall has published a book about animals and now has an animated series he's developing.

"Myself, my assistant and this great comedian Harland Williams, we joined forces and we came up with this idea o fan animated show where I work as a life sciences and biology professor," says Randall.

"Meanwhile, as is the case with most universities, they take the money from the academia and dump it into the sports programs," Randall continues. "So this university, the football team means everything and they have as the mascot a live honey badger and they put me in charge of this live honey badger, in addition to teaching kids who just aren't interested.

He also tells us there will be elements of live action to the show, »

Geek Girl Navigating the World – The Perils of Space Claustrophobia

Geek Girl Navigating the World – The Perils of Space Claustrophobia

Human beings, in general, can get terrified of the unknown pretty easily.  On an evolutionary level, it makes sense.  By avoiding risks and refraining from making uninformed decisions, the species will survive to reproduce.  On the other hand, if you never go anywhere or do anything, your chances of actually meeting a mate and reproducing are pretty much in the tank from the start.  So, as much as that fear is part of us, the need to figure out what’s happening around us is, too.

Nowhere does that odd dichotomy of human nature get demonstrated better than in science fiction films that take place in outer space.  Space is vast and incomprehensible, dotted by points of light so distant from us that our atmosphere distorts that light making it look like it twinkles.  It’s occasionally studded with planets, »
