Yes even Adult Swim joined the upfronts fray last week, and has now announced its forthcoming programming for 2012-2013. Back for more of what they do best are favorites Robot Chicken, Ntsf:sd:suv, and Children’s Hospital, along with newcomer Newsreaders, an animated Harold and Kumar, and the return of Toonami.

Deadline is reporting that funny lady Kym Whitley has booked guest-starring roles in two NBC pilots-- prison drama Bad Girls and vet hospital comedy Animal Kingdom. S&A previously announced the casting of Jurnee Smollett and Tracee Ellis Ross in the prison-based drama Bad Girls, which focuses on female inmates from varying backgrounds who are serving time for an assortment of charges. No word yet on what role Whitley will play in the series. Deadline also revealed that Whitley has a series-regular option on Animal Kingdom if the pilot gets picked up.

P.J. Byrne (Horrible Bosses) is the first actor cast opposite Martin Lawrence in Lawrence’s CBS comedy pilot. The project, written by Mike Lisbe and Nate Reger and produced by CBS TV Studios, stars Lawrence as a widowed father of two teenagers who, after losing his job in construction, decides to go to the police academy and become a cop at the age of 46. Byrne, repped by Greene & Assoc., will play Kip, the Captain’s self-important busy body who likes to involve himself in everything that happens at the station house and relishes making the lives of his fellow officers difficult. Byrne will next be seen in the Warner Brothers feature The Campaign. Erich Bergen (Jersey Boys) and Brooklyn Sudano have been added to the cast of CW’s pilot Joey Dakota, about Maya (Amber Stevens), a documentary filmmaker and her time-traveling romance with the subject of her film, Joey Dakota »

Gore Verbinski-directed Academy Award®-nominated Rango, starring Johnny Depp, will ride into limited theaters again. Pic has just landed an Oscar® nomination, and rightfully so. In my opinion, this should win. The stunning animation aso includes the voice talents of Isla Fisher, Abigail Breslin, Alfred Molina, Bill Nighy, Harry Dean Stanton, Ray Winstone, Timothy Olyphant, Claudia Black, Alanna Ubach, Stephen Root, Gil Birmingham, Beth Grant and Kym Whitley. Rango saddles up for a one week limited engagement, airing at the ArcLight Hollywood starting this Friday, January 27th. Rango won the Best Animated Feature Award from the National Board of Review and as well as the Critics’ Choice Movie Award. The story follows the comical, transformative journey of Rango (Depp), a sheltered chameleon living as an ordinary family pet, while facing a major identity crisis.
