‘I, Tonya’ Bodyguard Explains Why He Was Kicked Out of Alamo Drafthouse in Funny PSA — Exclusive
Anyone who has seen the raucous biopic “I, Tonya” knows that one of the film’s highlights is Shawn Eckhardt, Jeff Gillooly’s aloof best friend and “bodyguard” to Tonya Harding. Throughout the film, Eckhardt, often squinting and covered in food, talks about how he’s trained in “recognizance,” eventually telling Gillooly that he “knows a guy” who can scare Nancy Kerrigan, which sets “The Incident” into action.

While actor Paul Walter Hauser’s portrayal of Eckhardt almost seems too comical to be real, the film smartly shows actual video evidence of the man in question during the film’s credits, proving Hauser really did stick the landing, nailing the voice, the squinting, and the ridiculous, unbelievable bragging.

Leigh Whannell interview - Insidious: The Last Key

Matt Edwards Jan 12, 2018

As Insidious 4 heads into UK cinemas, we've been chatting to the writer behind the series...

For such a friendly guy, Leigh Whannell sure knows how to scare the living daylights out of you.

Whannell rose to prominence writing the twisted slaughterama Saw (which he also co-starred in) and, more recently, the spooktacular Insidious series (which, again, he also acts in). In between, Whanell also found the time to write Donnie Wahlberg starring puppet shocker Dead Silence and zombrat splatstick comedy Cooties (which he again acted in, this time stealing the entire movie with his performance as worrying weirdo Doug).

Having directed the third Insidious, Whannell is back to simply writing, producing and acting in the fourth film, Insidious: The Last Key (what a layabout!). Den Of Geek jumped at the chance to have a chat with him about the film back in November. Here’s how we got on.
