Movie Review: 'Blended' isn't Adam Sandler's worst subsidized vacation

22 May 2014 5:58 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

You know those real estate scams where you're offered a free vacation if you just sit through a time-share presentation and that time-share presentation seems never-ending, because even if it's just two hours, what you really wanted was a free vacation? For Adam Sandler, filmmaking is like that time-share presentation.  All the guy wants is to get major motion picture studios to subsidize his vacations. Is that so wrong? If Sony or Warner Brothers said to you, "How would you like an all-expenses-paid trip to Hawaii or Africa or a secluded lake? And all you have to do is deliver a movie and nobody on our side will even ask to see a script or bother looking at the final cut," what would you say? You'd accept the deal. Don't deny it.  It's obvious that Sandler and his partners-in-vacation-loving-crime don't especially enjoy the quid pro quo required for their global galavanting, »

He may be 64, but that doesn't stop Bruce Springsteen from performing marathon concerts - or from wearing earrings, skinny jeans and a tight black T! The Boss, Steven Van Zandt and the rest of the legendary E Street Band (whose members were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last month) took the stage at Mogehan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., Saturday for a three-hour-long show that had 10,000-plus fans on their feet the entire time. ‘Glad All Over’ Fortifies Dave Clark Five’s Might at Forefront of British Invasion

7 April 2014 5:30 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Most people who perceive the Beatles and the Rolling Stones as having led the British Invasion might be surprised to learn that the Dave Clark Five gave both groups a run for their money during their mid-’60s heyday. And that whole Beatles vs. Stones thing? The DC5 vs. the Fab Four constituted its own rivalry, at least according to the documentary “The Dave Clark Five and Beyond” — Glad All Over,” airing Tuesday, April 8, at 8 p.m. and Friday, April 11, at 10 p.m. on PBS (Koce in Los Angeles) as part of the “Great Performances” series.

Judging by the milestones, the Tottenham-based DC5 made it their business to one-up their Liverpool counterparts, beginning with the single “Glad All Over,” which supplanted “I Want to Hold Your Hand” at the top of the U.K. singles chart in 1964 and performing on “The Ed Sullivan Show” 18 times compared to the Beatles’ trio of appearances. »

Bruce Springsteen inspired by Mandela's forgiving nature

27 January 2014 12:37 AM, PST | RealBollywood.com | See recent RealBollywood news »

London, Jan. 27: Bruce Springsteen began his first tour to South Africa with a rendition of the protest song 'Free Nelson Mandela.'

Springsteen never met Mandela, but in an interview told Sky News that he was inspired by Mandela's ability to forgive those who jailed him for 27 years.

The 64-year-old singer was one of the musicians who fought against South Africa's apartheid laws; he even participated in the recording the track 'Sun City' in 1985 to highlight the injustice of the whites-only resort.

Steven Van Zandt, the instigator of the cultural boycott of South Africa and founder of Artists Against Apartheid, was alongside him on stage at Cape Town's Belleville Velodrome.

The movement had raised awareness. »

Additionally, Netflix has renewed the original drama series Lilyhammer for a third season.  For those unaware, the show stars Steven Van Zandt (The Sopranos) as a mob fixer who is relocated to the Netherlands when he enters the witness protection system.  Season two debuted on Netflix last month.  Hit the jump to take a look at the House of Cards image. Fifteen years ago Friday (Jan. 10), the face of television changed. That was perhaps not apparent at the time, but those who saw "The Sopranos" before it premiered on HBO on Jan. 10, 1999, did see it as something special.

Early reviews for the show were almost universally positive, with most singling out James Gandolfini's performance (as well as those of Edie Falco and Nancy Marchand) and the show's dark humor.

What reviewers at the time couldn't know, of course, was just how large and lasting an effect "The Sopranos" would have on TV drama. Shows ranging from "The Shield" to "Dexter" to "Breaking Bad" to "House" might not have existed, or at least not in the form we came to know them, were it not for Tony, Carmela and Co.

Oceans of ink and pixels have been spilled about the show's legacy (this excerpt from Alan Sepinwall's book "The Revolution Was »
