Television’s biggest night took place in Century City, CA Saturday, September 16th, where the entertainment industry came together for the 11th annual “Evening Before” party, benefitting Mptf (Motion Picture & Television Fund).

The television industry, from Emmy presenters and nominees, to other TV industry members, helped raise funds to support their industry colleagues and friends who benefit from Mptf’s charitable programs and services such as financial assistance, crisis counseling, care giving support and of course the legendary retirement facility in Woodland Hills that is “home” to television and film veterans alike.

Common, Mykelti Williamson Join Michelle Monaghan’s Drama ‘Saint Judy’

Common, Mykelti Williamson, and Leem Lubany have joined the cast of Michelle Monaghan’s independent drama “Saint Judy,” which has started shooting in Los Angeles.

Previously announced cast members include Alfred Molina, Alfre Woodard, Gabriel Bateman, Ben Schnetzer, Waleed Zuaiter, Kevin Chapman, Aimee Garcia, and Peter Krause.

Cannonball Productions is producing “Saint Judy,” which centers on the story of Judy Wood, a single mother in her mid-30’s who began work in immigration law and represented an Afghani immigrant who had been persecuted for opening up a school for girls in her home country. By winning the case, Wood single-handedly changed the law of asylum nationwide, allowing women to be designated a protected class.

Sean Hanish (“Return to Zero”) is helming the feature. Cannonball principals Paul Jaconi-Biery and Hanish are producing with Kelly Kahl, Molina, Gabriela Lugo, and Jaime Surenkamp as executive producers. Derek Beamer is co-producer.

Twenty years after Buffy the Vampire Slayer hit the small screen, Entertainment Weekly rounded up the Scooby Gang for an all-star reunion. Although the cast members have graduated into new phases of life (there was some showing off photos of children and swapping of recipes at the gathering), star Sarah Michelle Gellar argues that high school was, indeed, hell.

Grrr arggg! Into every generation an excellent TV show is born: One show in all the world. The Chosen One.

It’s been 20 years since Buffy Summers, Mr. Pointy, The Bronze, and Giles’ always-smudged spectacles graced our small screens, and the world has never been the same (mostly because she saved it… a lot).

There were plenty of quips (“Out. For. A. Walk. B**ch.”), tears (Spike’s undying devotion, sob), and frights (bunnies, plus demons and stuff), but Buffy the Vampire Slayer was so much more than that.

The Joss Whedon masterpiece created several feminist icons, spoke to addiction struggles, portrayed the first lesbian sex scene on broadcast television, showed that vampires were sexy long before Twilight and made it ok to wear pink leather pants in public… well, sort of.
