Watch John Oliver Spotlight Ridiculous Congressional Fundraising

4 April 2016 6:37 AM, PDT | Rollingstone.com | See recent Rolling Stone news »

During the 2014 election cycle, candidates for the House and Senate raised a startling, combined $1.7 billion, which John Oliver said is "more than it costs to buy 242 million tubes of hemorrhoidal cooling gel and is somehow even more upsetting." During Sunday's Last Week Tonight, the host investigated the distressing methods – namely fundraisers and call centers – used to obtain these funds.

As Oliver explained, the most prevalent form of fundraising takes place at "shitty parties," of which 2,800 were held in 2014 alone. "Washington is like Rod Stewart's haircut: party in the front, »

Watch: Russell Crowe, Ryan Gosling Don’t Hold Back in ‘Nice Guys’ Trailer

22 March 2016 7:13 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Mayhem dominates in the new trailer for Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling’s action-comedy “The Nice Guys,” featuring plenty of gunplay, slugging, dead bodies falling off buildings and cars crashing into buildings.

Crowe is an especially violent detective investigating the apparent suicide of a female porn star whose career was on the decline in ’70s Los Angeles. Gosling portrays Holland March as a jittery private eye, a practicing alcoholic with a smart-mouth adolescent daughter.

“How much would you charge to beat up my friend Janet?” she asks a bemused Crowe at one point.

The trailer also features disco dancing along with two instantly recognizable staples of 1970s music: Rod Stewart’s “(I Know) I’m Losing You” and the Hollies’ “Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress.”

Near the end of the trailer, Gosling tells Crowe, “Before we deal with the crime of the century, let’s deal with the rotting corpse. »

Vinyl episode 1 review: Pilot

Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger's new HBO drama looks and sounds great, but can Vinyl grow into more than just Mad Men: The Rock Years?

My favourite rock ’n’ roll conspiracy theory runs as follows. Punk rock, with its cheap Diy ethic, mistrust (and deliberate avoidance) of wealth and dismissal of the decadent excess of earlier rock bands was a deliberately nefarious creation of major music labels that had grown fearful of the growing power of artists and who found a clever way of redressing the balance so that they, the anonymous suits, remained in charge.  A Sid Viscious, so the theory goes, would be far more biddable and less likely to demand a larger slice of the cake than a Neil Young or a Roger Waters.

Whether by deliberate policy or not, it’s certainly true that some of the business elements of the music industry were changing. »

The Late Late Show With James Corden” most recently reaped the benefits of Adele, as the late-night show’s viral segment “Carpool Karaoke” hit a new viewership high with “Adele Carpool Karaoke.” The video surpassed 67.5 million views and became the most-watched late-night YouTube clip ever.

According to data from Tubular Labs, within its first five days on YouTube the video of Corden and Adele singing had generated 42 million views. The video, in turn, drove a double-digit percentage increase in the number of subscribers to the “Late Late Show’s” YouTube channel.

The “Carpool Karaoke” videos have been a hit since Corden took over hosting responsibilities. “Justin Bieber Carpool Karaoke” was named one of YouTube’s Top 10 most viral videos of 2015. Those who have performed alongside Corden in his car also include One Direction, Iggy Azaela, Mariah Carey, »
