TV's Best of the Decade: No. 2 -- 'The Daily Show with Jon Stewart'

30 December 2009 12:21 PM, PST | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

As further proof that serendipity is steering this chronicle, Fox decided to air a dreadful little comedy called "The Benchwarmers" on the eve of the posting of No. 2 on my list of TV's Best of the Decade.   Released in 2006, "The Benchwarmers" is every bit as bad as you'd assume that a movie starring Rob Schneider, David Spade and Jon Heder would be and, at times, it's actually a bit worse.    Now in "The Benchwarmers," the villain is the script. Wait. No. Let me start over again. In "The Benchwarmers," the villain is an obnoxious overgrown frat boy »

David Spade Proves He Knows How To Party In Today's Daily TwitPic

30 December 2009 6:00 AM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

This is the time of year that people tend to let themselves go. Starting with the Thanksgiving Day gorge, a lot of folks set their controls to "Party" for the rest of the year, ringing in both the holidays and the new year with the mass consumption of food and spirits. Tomorrow, the party culminates for revelers across the world, as the clock ticks over from 11:59pm on 12/31/09 to 12:00am on 1/1/10.

And David Spade is ready. As you'll see in today's Daily TwitPic, he's got a single bottle of liquor that's large enough to feed an entire party. Gentleman Jack to be precise, a high-end Jack Daniels. Here's a fun fact about Jd that I discovered while traveling around the country back in the late '90s: the Jack Daniels distillery is located in Lynchburg, Tennessee, which is a dry county. Meaning you can't actually buy the stuff »

A 'Twilight' Actress In The White House In Today's Twitter-Wood

Christian Serratos was talking about going to Greece yesterday, but last night she was post pictures from her trip to the White House, where she visited a cardboard Christmas tree.

In other tweets, Mindy Kaling saw "Avatar," and she and fellow "Office" cast member Rainn Wilson ran a hypothetical question about how Dwight would react to Na'vi. Click on past the jump to see what they predicted along with what Adam Duritz gave Emmy Rossum for Christmas, whose Wii workout game Diablo Cody has been using and what Neil Gaiman security pat-down he had to endure. It's all in the Twitter-Wood report for December 29, 2009.

Five Young Comedians Seen on the New 'Grown Ups' Banner

26 December 2009 8:00 AM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Didn't we just see a young Adam Sandler in Funny People? If you went to the movies recently, you might've seen this new banner for Dennis Dugan's comedy Growns Ups starring Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider, and David Spade. The banner has five very young-looking photos of all five of those comedians to make people interested in seeing how these five "friends" will act as grown ups. We featured the first teaser trailer for this back in November. While it wasn't a very long trailer, I thought it looked like it could be good. Even if you're not interested, it's still pretty cool seeing these photos. I wonder if they're real? Thirty years after their high school graduation, five friends reunite for a Fourth of July holiday weekend. When you.ve got a cast including Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider and David Spade, you expect the trailer to be downright hilarious. Well, it was far from it, but maybe they.re saving the good stuff for the movie. Or am I being too hopeful? They pack up their impressively casted wives (Salma Hayek, Maria Bello and Maya Rudolph) and kids and head off to the lake house where they spent their younger days. The film is set to hit theaters June 25th and I.m looking forward to seeing this brand new poster showing off the stars way back when on billboards across the country. Brittany Murphy's Uso Tour Appearance, 'Avatar' In 3D And 'Toy Story 3' Finished In Today's Twitter-Wood

22 December 2009 3:30 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Brittany Murphy and "Avatar" look poised to dominated Twitter-Wood's thoughts this holiday week, even if most of the tweeters are leaving their offices to tweet from home and last-minute shopping expeditions right now. Alyssa Milano retweeted a photo taken when she and Murphy appeared on a Uso tour together, reflecting on the time they spent there. Meanwhile, Elizabeth Banks, Samm Levine and David Spade all had different reactions to "Avatar" in 3D.

You can sort out what they had to say after the jump along with a former "Saved By the Bell" star's denial of drunken behavior, Kevin Smith's response to a tweeter about his wife's Playboy photos and former Karate Kid Ralph Macchio on whether or not he plans on coming back to "Ugly Betty." It's all retweeted in the Twitter-Wood report for December 22, 2009.

The Notable Films of 2010: Part Four

Georgia

Opens: 2010

Cast: Val Kilmer, Andy Garcia, Rupert Friend, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Johnathon Schaech

Director: Renny Harlin

Summary: An American journalist, his cameraman, and a Georgian native get caught in the crossfire of the five-day Russia-Georgia conflict in August 2008, and then have to deal with their obligation to be impartial.

Analysis: A timely parable on war, or Hollywood propaganda filmmaking at its worst? Wherever it goes, especially in Europe and the former Soviet states, "Georgia" will cause a lot of talk and controversy as the incidents depicted are still so fresh in many's minds. Like all topics of the sort, it'll also have its strong supporters and detractors having opinions on the film long before a frame of footage is screened anywhere.

Shot on-location in Tbilisi, the project also marks a potential return to form for Finnish director Renny Harlin. Given the right material the skilled action director delivered three »

Spike VGAs to be Hostless?

9 December 2009 4:13 AM, PST | GameRant | See recent GameRant news »

There’s only 3 days until you can look forward to watching the VGAs and all of the exclusive first looks at previously unannounced games and trailers, but who is Spike going to have help guide you through this wonderful award ceremony? Apparently, nobody. Spike TV has said that at the moment they do not have plans for a host.

“As of right now, we are going without a host, similarly to what we did for this year’s Scream Awards.”

This year will have plenty of guest presenters though, including Jake Gyllenhaal, Kristen Bell, Felicia Day, Tony Hawk, Tricia Helfer, Alyssa Milano, Mike Tyson, Zachary Quinto, and Olivia Wilde. Rapper Snoop Dog is planned to perform at the awards also.

In the past 3 years, the annual event has seen 3 hosts: David Spade, Samuel L. Jackson, and Jack Black. So, it’s surprising and unusual to hear that Spike doesn’t »

Grown Ups Trailer, or, How Can a Movie with so Many Comedians Look so UnFunny?

16 November 2009 11:24 AM, PST | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

You know how comedies always pretty much blow their wad by giving away all the film’s funniest bits in the trailers in hopes of luring you into paying your hard-earned money to see them in theaters? Well it looks like the makers of “Grown Ups” is going in the other direction. Instead of making a trailer chock full of the movie’s best gags, this trailer is shockingly laughing in anything resembling comedy. Really, how can a movie with so many famous comedians look so horribly unfunny? It’s like these guys just got together and thought, “You know, let’s slap something together where we get paid to hang out and call it a movie!” When your best selling gag is the fat guy swinging into a tree and them falling down a hillside, you’re not even trying anymore. Trailer Park: Kicking Some Extraordinary Ass

13 November 2009 5:15 PM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

Kick-Ass

Why don't people in real life put on a costume, get a few gadgets and fight crime? Because the idea is completely bonkers. This flick based on a comic book by Mark Millar features a group of young people putting on the spandex and, as the title suggests, kicking some ass. This looks pretty cool, but we'll find out for sure on April 16.

Extraordinary Measures

Brendan Fraser stars as a father whose children are dying from a genetic disorder. Desperate to save them he funds the work of an eccentric but brilliant researcher (Harrison Ford) in hopes of finding a cure. I suspect this will be a good old fashioned tear-jerker. If that's your cup of tea you can check it out on January 22.

Suddenly, it's the plot du jour: Old friends, younger wives, and even younger children get together on a vacation. Sometimes, it leads to a Guitar Hero commercial. Sometimes, it leads to Murder! Sandler and his SNL cronies David Spade, Chris Rock and Rob Schneider team up in the film with Kevin James, who unexpectedly had a bigger hit this year than any of them. »

Adam Sandler’s ‘Grown Ups’ Gets A Trailer

13 November 2009 1:15 PM, PST | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

Adam Sandler and his ‘Happy Madison’ production company have been on a steady roll since the mid 1990s and their string of films starring Sandler himself. As of late, the company has been known for smaller, yet equally humorous, films such as Grandma’s Boy and the Deuce Bigelow franchise.

Now, the team is reuniting with Sandler’s cast of regulars and newest on-screen partner Kevin James for a brand new comedy called Grown Ups. The film is about a group of five boys who grow apart over the years and finally come together to reconnect and find their childhood once again. I like to call this one something like The Sand Lot: 30 Years Later.

Sandler takes the lead in this one, in his first comedy role since this year’s Funny People, with a familiar cast of characters joining him. David Spade, Rob Schneider, Chris Rock, and Kevin James »
