Christian Bale's Rollercoaster Career

4 July 2009 7:02 AM, PDT | From Cinematical.com | See recent Cinematical news

From Pacman to Public Enemies, he's had more ups and downs than most other actors of his generation. Christian Bale has careened between extreme highs and deep lows, in the view of the folks at MovieFill, and they decided that a rollercoaster was the most apt visual metaphor for his career. A reduced-size version can be seen above.

They squeeze most of his films into the chart, though they left out a few. Before his sensational role in Mary Harron's American Psycho, he was very appealing in Metroland and got good notices in Todd Haynes' Velvet Goldmine; pre-Batman Begins / The Dark Knight, he was fun to watch as a frisky villain in John Singleton's Shaft and an uptight, would-be psychiatrist in Laurel Canyon. I don't agree with every notation in the chart. Harsh Times, for example, is cited as one of his "lows," but Bale was riveting.

The Game In Talks To Play B.A. Baracus in The A-Team?

2 July 2009 12:47 AM, PDT | From /Film | See recent /Film news

When John Singleton was developing an A-Team movie, he was talking to Ice Cube about playing B.A. Baracus. A year and a half later, Joe Carnahan has since been brought on board to get the project started, and BlackFilm is reporting that a new rapper has now become the front-runner for the mo-hawked soldier of fortune role originally played by Mr. T in the television series. The Game. The 29-year-old Grammy nominated rapper made his big screen debut in the not-well-received 2006 action-drama Waist Deep. He later had a small role in Street Kings. The announced cast includes Liam Neeson as John "Hannibal" Smith and Bradley Cooper as Lt. Templeton "Faceman" Pack. For some reason I'm really not interested in an A-Team movie, which probably stems from my dislike for the series as a child. Also, I just think the show only worked in Regan-era (let's not get political...) But

Michael Jackson Music Video Road Trip

1 July 2009 3:35 PM, PDT | From Fandango | See recent Fandango news

With the passing of Michael Jackson, we started to think of all of his great music videos and where exactly they were shot. Since everyone is camping out at either Neverland, his rented mansion in Holmby Hills or his parents estate in Encino, we thought we'd take fans on a road trip of some of the locations used in Michael Jackson's greatest videos. What are some of those great music videos, you ask? We've put together a small sampling of five of his best to check out here. Although he certainly didn't invent the medium of the music video, Jackson probably did as much as anyone to help redefine it -– by lavishing huge budgets on his more lengthy productions (that almost play like feature film shorts) and hiring feature film directors like Scorsese, John Singleton...

26 June 2009 3:20 AM, PDT | From Boxwish.com | See recent BoxWish news

Here at Boxwish, we would like to join the millions and millions of people across the world in expressing our sadness at the passing of Michael Jackson at the age of 50. The King of Pop, as he was so aptly christened by long-time friend Elizabeth Taylor, contributed so much to the world of music providing us with a cherished legacy of songs that will live long in our hearts and on our iPods. However, rather than repeat the many tributes paid to the star by his friends, family and fellow celebrities or to rake over his many years in the spotlight, we’re honouring Mj with a Boxwish-style celebration that remembers his best movie moments.

Best starring role

Taking the music video from afterthought to true art form, Michael Jackson worked with many of Hollywood’s top directors such as Spike Lee (“They Don’t Care About Us”), John Singleton

Michael Jackson's Star Flames Out at 50

25 June 2009 9:30 PM, PDT | From CinemaSpy | See recent CinemaSpy news

Musical icon Michael Jackson died this past Thursday at the age of 50. The singer, whose albums sold millions of copies worldwide, had a profound influence on pop culture, and worked with some of Hollywood’s top directors in often-groundbreaking music videos.

Jackson, who rose to prominence during the 70’s as part of the popular Motown scene, first appeared on-screen in 1978’s The Wiz, an African-American version of The Wizard of Oz. The film’s director was Sidney Lumet, the director of Dog Day Afternoon and Network.

During the 80’s, his multi-platinum-selling albums "Thriller" and "Bad" were supported by music videos that pushed the genre into feature film territory. John Landis, who made the comedic hits Animal House and The Blues Brothers, and whose An American Werewolf in London is considered a seminal horror classic, directed the spine-tingling "Thriller". The 14-minute music video, which featured dancing zombies, was more like a

From the cinematic 'Thriller' to the bank-breaking 'Scream,' Jackson made an indelible impact on music videos.

It is a loss of immeasurable magnitude. Michael Jackson, arguably the biggest pop-music star of the past quarter-century, unquestionably one of the greatest entertainers of all time, is dead at the age of 50.

A star since age 11, Jackson lived in the spotlight for four decades, selling more albums than any other solo artist not named Elvis and forever changing the worlds of pop, R&B, hip-hop and even rock (check Eddie Van Halen's solo on "Beat It" for proof) in the process. He was a true icon of the entertainment age, an international superstar who spread his fame across screens and stages around the world. He revolutionized the art of choreography, touring, multiplatform promotion and — of course — music videos.

A-Team Casting: Bradley Cooper as Face, Liam Neeson as Hannibal

9 June 2009 6:13 AM, PDT | From FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news

Back in January it was announced [1] that Joe Carnahan (Smokin' Aces) had signed on to replace John Singleton as the director The A-Team movie, with both Ridley Scott and Tony Scott producing. Since then we haven't heard much more about the project, but with the movie scheduled to go before cameras this August, we can probably expect a flurry of casting updates over the next few weeks. The first casting rumour to be pretty much confirmed is Bradley Cooper, fresh off his role in The Hangover, who is in talks to star as Lt. Templeton "Faceman" Peck. A-Team fans will remember that Face (who was played by Dirk Benedict in the TV series) was a smooth-talking master of disguise -- sounds like a perfect role for Cooper. The other role that is currently being locked down right now is the team leader, cigar chomping Col. John "Hannibal" Smith (played by

Marvel film updates on Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Avengers and more...

8 June 2009 7:57 AM, PDT | From The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news

An Update on Marvel Studios' upcoming superhero films has been given by president of production Kevin Feige at a conference in Culver City, California.

Feige told the conference that the failure of the Warner Bros film Batman and Robin in 1997 was seen as a turning point for comic book movie adaptations and led to them being treated more seriously.

He then gave updates on Marvel's scheduled film slate up to 2012, which consists so far of Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers.

Feige also told us the latest on the proposed Ant-Man movie and then mentioned a surprise superhero film project.

Read on for all the details...

The key points in Feige's presentation were:

Iron Man 2 (May 7, 2010): The studio looked at successful sequels and decided they worked well because "they told a relativity simple story so they could focus on the characters and crack open the mythology instead.

Update: Bradley Cooper Joins The A-Team

19 May 2009 9:01 PM, PDT | From TheMovingPicture.net | See recent TheMovingPicture news

Bradley Cooper (The Hangover, TV’s Alias), who has recently been rumored to be up for the lead role in The Green Lantern, has confirmed to the folks over at IESB that he’s set to play Lt. Templeton 'Faceman' Peck in the big screen adaptation of the popular 80s television series The A-Team. Joe Carnahan (Smokin’ Aces, Narc) is directing with Ridley and Tony Scott producing through their Scott Free banner. The project has been through many ups and downs, with various actors, directors and writers being involved over the years. John Singleton was last attached, but ultimately left after casting and script issues stalled the project. Carnahan and the Scott brothers will use the original premise of the series as the template for an action film. In the original, four Vietnam vets convicted of armed robbery escape from military prison and became do-gooder mercenaries. The Middle East will

Bradley Cooper Is the New Faceman for 'The A-Team'

17 May 2009 11:25 PM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

Could it be that the upcoming A-Team movie might be worth doing after all? I was less stoked about a John Singleton-Ice Cube version, but when Smokin' Joe Carnahan came aboard to direct I thought that was an interesting pitch. Then a week or so we heard that Common will most likely play B.A. Baracus, and now, there's a Face.

Bradley Cooper was asked by IESB if he was excited about playing the role, which had been muy secret until that point. A surprised Cooper asked in response, "That's out already?"

Cooper is like a catfish at the bottom of a dam right now, just sitting there with his mouth open gobbling up any role that passes by. He's got the sequel to this summer's comedy The Hangover on the way, plus next year's romcom bonanza, Valentine's Day, as well as the persistent rumor that he'll play The Green Lantern,

xXx: The Return of Xander Cage - Screenwriter Michael Ferris gives Collider an update on the project -- Steve asks what’s the status of Vin Diesel’s possible next film

11 May 2009 | From Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news

Written by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub With Vin Diesel all of a sudden a hot commodity with the unexpected success of the recent “Fast & Furious” movie, many are wondering what Vin will attach himself to next. According to the always accurate IMDb, Vin is in pre-production on “The Wheelman” for director John Singleton, “Rockfish” – as a voice actor, and “xXx: The Return of Xander Cage” for director Rob Cohen. Of course which project he picks depends on many things, but having a good script is usually the starting point. So when I attended this weekend’s press junket for “Terminator Salvation”, I decided to ask screenwriters Michael Ferris and John D. Brancato how the script was coming along for “xXx”, as they're writing it. While John was busy talking to someone else, I did get a moment with Michael and he ...

9 May 2009 10:41 PM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

Vin Diesel might be driving fast in another movie - the video game Wheelman is coming soon to a theater near you. The game came out last month and conveniently enough, Diesel was its star and a producer.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers) will produce the film with Diesel and John Singleton will direct the adaptation about a driver who comes out of retirement to protect a woman from his past. Variety says that Oliver Butcher and Stephen Cornwell rewrote the first script by Rich Wilkes.

Vin Diesel to play lead in Paramount's 'Wheelman'

9 May 2009 10:31 PM, PDT | From screeninglog.com | See recent screeninglog news

Vin Diesel won't be slowing down anytime soon. The star of "Fast & Furious" is set to star in Paramount Pictures' upcoming big-screen adaptation of Ubisoft's "The Wheelman," a videogame that already features the actor as its main character. Variety says John Singleton, who also helmed "2 Fast 2 Furious" and "Four Brothers," will direct a screenplay by Oliver Butcher and Stephen Cornwell. Rich Wilkes wrote the original script.

Diesel is playing a talented driver who kisses retirement good-bye to protect a woman from his past. His return to the "Fast & Furious" franchise proved to be quite lucrative, because the fourth installment in the series has already collected $150.9 million domestically. I've never played "Wheelman" and don't know if the game's plot is worth it, but Diesel is certainly the right guy to play this role. Okay, Jason Statham would probably perfect too.

Rapper Common Talks A-Team Movie

9 May 2009 9:59 PM, PDT | From ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news

The A-Team movie is a project that has been in development for years and years now, with various different people attached to write, star and direct at different stages. The first name attached to helm it was Boyz In The Hood director John Singleton, but he dropped out (due to creative differences), and then Smokin’ Aces director Joe Carnahan was brought on-board.

The last we heard, Chris Pine was in talks to play the role of Murdock, which was played by Dwight Schultz in the original TV series, and Ice Cube was in talks to play B.A. Baracus. Regarding the latter, it appears that nothing came of it as there’s a new contender for the role famously played by Mr. T: Rapper-turned-actor Common.

In an interview with our friends over at IESB promoting the upcoming Terminator Salvation, Common confirmed that he was at least being held in
