A Mixed Bag In A Big Box

By Darren Allison

‘I was there; I was in that picture, fighting the Cyclops on the beach, running from the dragon! I was enthralled. It's one of my strongest childhood memories.’ It’s very hard to argue with director John Landis’s vivid account of his earliest memories and the fantasy films of Ray Harryhausen and producer Charles H. Schneer. They seemed to touch us all in an indelible manner and took us into a fantasy realm far beyond our imagination. Indicator has (for the first time in the UK) combined the three Sinbad adventures in one very handsomely produced package. It’s a magical box that has very little trouble in sending us on a journey, and back to a place called innocence…

The Seventh voyage of Sinbad (1958) was something of a revelation back in its day. Ray Harryhausen’s pioneering stop-motion »

An additional slew of celebrity guest stars join the new season including Tony Award-winning actress Renée Elise Goldsberry (Hamilton) as Dhahabu, a charismatic golden zebra; Academy and Grammy Award-winning rapper, actor, producer and poet Common (Selma) as Kiburi, an arrogant crocodile; Kristofer Hivju (Game of Thrones) as Kenge, a ferocious monitor lizard; Aj Mclean (Backstreet Boys) as Kuchimba, an adorable golden mole; Carla Hall (The Chew) as Mpishi, a “foodie” African harrier hawk; Christopher Jackson (Hamilton) as Shujaa, »

Sinbad Outraged by 'Pill Cosby' Drink at D.C. Bar (Video + Photo)

23 May 2017 6:46 AM, PDT | TMZ | See recent TMZ news »

[[tmz:video id="0_4fiddz4o"]] Sinbad thinks a D.C. bar serving a cocktail that mocks the Bill Cosby case is the exact opposite of funny ... in fact, it's just wrong. We got the comedian Monday at Lax and asked him about the bar -- called Diet Starts Monday -- pouring a "Pill Cosby" ... complete with empty pill capsules. Sinbad doesn't mince words here -- he says it's not a joke, and his stance has nothing to do with defending Cosby's name. »

‘Shazaam’ Is Real: College Humor ‘Finds’ Long-Lost Sinbad Genie Movie That Doesn’t Actually Exist

2 April 2017 10:05 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

If you thought the “Shazaam” phenomenon was over, what with the fleeting nature of the never-ending meme cycle, then you may have mixed feelings about an April Fool’s video released by College Humor yesterday. Presented as two minutes of found footage from the film in question — a nonexistent and vaguely racist conflation of “Kazaam,” in which Shaq plays a genie, and Sinbad’s ’90s oeuvre — the video asserts that “Shazaam” does in fact exist.

Complete with a faux tracking effect and snippets of a cereal commercial, the video finds two kiddos rifling through boxes in their garage when they happen upon a lamp that’s sure to raise alarm bells in anyone who obsessively watched “Aladdin” as a child. Out pops the eponymous wish-granter, played by the star of “Houseguest” and “First Kid” himself, »

Classic 90s Movies Turning 20 in 2017

11 March 2017 8:56 AM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Time has a way of rolling on doesn't it? The 1990s were a great hodge-podge of 1980s leftovers and a the future all rolled into one. So it stands to reason that some of the movies we got from that time, even though they were completed, sort of felt incomplete upon their release 20 years ago. In fact, it seems to take something like a 20th anniversary for certain films to be deemed important. It might lead one to ask if the 1990s had any classic or iconic movies?

It would be easy to write a lot of these films off. Lord knows many a critic did, however, when you take a solid look at this list, many of these films have stood the test of time. Some of have even become iconic movies. The mere fact that they are even on a list of this nature is a testament to this. »
