The Girl With A Thorn In Her Side

Lynn Castle Rose Colored Corner Light (Light In The Attic)

Coming across visually as a prototype Nancy Sinatra about to enter The Valley Of The Dolls, Lynn Castle in the 1960s was an entrancing and beguiling entity. Her debut album finally appears a few years shy of her turning eighty, and it is a tremendous affair, an index of splendid and unrealized possibilities, as stark as it is haunting.

Vocally she sounds like a female Leonard Cohen who's been listening to too much Nina Simone, whose smoke-laced croak she frequently echoes. Her look though uber-girlie doesn't match her sound, and simply serves to enhance the appeal of her beauty and big, big hair. Think Warhol's Candy Darling doing an arch Barbie doll look and you are nearly there. Add Jackie O shades and you have quite simply arrived. Her sole single 'The Lady Barber' is a wonderful piece of »

This music video mashup kicks things up a notch, putting a Wonder Woman spin on six iconc songs and music videos that celebrates both Diana of Themyscira and feminism throughout the past few decades.

Lana Del Rey knows Hollywood, dropping references to everyone from Marilyn Monroe to Nancy Sinatra to Lana Turner, from whom she borrowed her name. And the video for her new song with The Weeknd, “Lust for Life,” invites recollections of one of Hollywood’s most storied tragedies. “Lust for Life” features the frequent collaborators playing young lovers, sharing a lovely duet. “Climb up the H of the Hollywood sign,” she sings, and then her character does just that. When she gets to the top, she meets him there. He sings lines that include, “They say only the good die young. »

31 March 2017 10:34 PM, PDT | PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news »

Looks like the joke is on us.

Star Trek star George Takei told The Daily Buzz he plans on running for Congress in 2018 and has specifically targeted California’s 22nd District so he can take on Republican Devin Nunes. However, it now turns out that it was all just a joke.

Takei told the site that he wanted to take a bigger stand in politics. “With what is going on now in the country, I couldn’t stand by any longer merely as a citizen,” Takei said. “I knew I had to take a bigger stand. So that’s why I’m running for Congress. »

Better Call Saul Season 3 Review

26 March 2017 9:00 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Two episodes were provided prior to broadcast.

For the third successive season, the premiere of Better Call Saul begins with a terrific, symbolically-rich cold open set after the events of this show’s parent series Breaking Bad, depicting its titular character working under the assumed name of ‘Gene’ at a Cinnabon as a fugitive from the law. Once again, the sequence is shot in black and white, emphasizing the blandness of his new life; once again it scored by a retro pop hit (this time Nancy Sinatra’s “Sugar Town”); and once again there is a threat of his cover being blown, when two policemen approach him to ask about a shoplifter.

This time, however, he’s unable to maintain his usual caution, as he blurts out almost unwillingly to the shoplifter as he’s escorted away: “Say nothing, you understand? Get a lawyer.” It’s a simple scene, but »

Film Review: ‘Smurfs: The Lost Village’

26 March 2017 12:00 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

If you go with your family to see “Smurfs: The Lost Village” (and let’s be honest: most of today’s animated features are more than suitable for adults only, but anyone who would go to this movie without children is seriously starved for entertainment), you’ll get to experience the trailer for “The Emoji Movie,” an upcoming feature from the same studio, Sony Pictures Animation. The trailer is hosted by an emoji named Meh, voiced in the morose observational tones of comedian Steven Wright; in just 30 seconds, he makes not being overly enthusiastic about anything seem the apex of hilarity. I won’t prejudge the film, but it’s a stupendous trailer.

Then we get to the Smurfs movie, which has a hundred characters who are Smurfs, and not one of them is as funny, or wry, or distinctive as Meh. You might describe the Smurfs as blueberry Hobbits »

Nancy Sinatra’s boots might be made for walking, but her Twitter account is apparently made for lobbing epic zingers. Sinatra, the daughter of singer Frank Sinatra, landed a perfect jab at president-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday night, following news that Trump would be using the song “My Way” — immortalized by her father — during his inauguration festivities. “You good w/ this guy using the iconic ‘My Way’ for Friday night?’ Sinatra was asked. Frank Sinatra Would ‘Never’ Have Performed at Trump’s Inauguration, Daughter Says

6 January 2017 7:30 AM, PST | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

Nancy Sinatra did not mince words when she was asked if her father, the legendary Frank Sinatra, would have agreed to perform at Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremony. “He would never support a bigot,” Nancy wrote on her official Twitter feed. The comment drew a flurry of reactions, both in support and against her statement. As TheWrap first reported, Trump’s team is struggling to book A-list performers for his inaugural festivities, with two talent bookers saying they were offered ambassadorships if they could deliver marquee names.
