Watch the Kids Incorporated New Year’s Special

31 December 2013 8:15 AM, PST | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

The Mickey Mouse Club of the late eighties and early nineties gave us Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Ryan Gosling, Christina Aguilera, and Keri Russell, among others. The show is looked back on … if not fondly then at least occasionally. But that show was not the only game in town! The Disney Channel started out with Kids Incorporated, an early role for Fergie, Jennifer Love Hewitt, and Mario Lopez, among other children forced to wear the garish clothing that was customary at the time. Kids Incorporated, with its singing and dancing and constant crises, brought us this truly horrendous special New Year's episode, "Rock in the New Year." It is even more grating than you could possibly remember. Sorry, 1986. »

New Look At Andy Serkis In His Ape Suit

30 December 2013 4:00 AM, PST | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

First, apologies: we know that expression is "monkey suit", but we didn't want to be accused of inaccuracy in our headlines. Second, here is a look at Andy Serkis in his role as Caesar in Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, looking as stylish as it is possible to do while wearing grey pyjamas and holding stilts with a camera on his head. Or as Serkis probably thinks of it these days, just hanging about in his everyday wardrobe. This sequel to Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes sees Caesar and his fellow genetically-enhanced apes forging a society in the forests, while humanity struggles to survive following the release of a virus that has wiped out most of the population. Sounds like the tides are turning in favour of the hairier primates, but both groups are terrified and face a choice between forging a peace or working to »

10. The Good Wife (CBS)

This year, The Good Wife did the unthinkable. Five seasons (and almost 100 episodes) in, it blew up the show. The original premise, that the publically shamed wife of a crooked politician begins her life anew at a former flame’s law firm, is gone, replaced by a baroque melodrama of conflicting loyalties and devastating emotional stakes. The progression of the series over the course of the year has been masterfully executed, with creators Robert and Michelle King building subtly to April’s season four finale, wherein Alicia decided to leave the firm at which she’d worked since the pilot, and then again very carefully to the season five explosion, when Alicia’s plans are discovered and she’s fired, leading to all-out legal war between the old firm, Lockhart Gardner, and the new one, Florrick Agos. There are emotional and legal casualties left and right »
