2010 Winter movie preview

28 December 2009 9:17 AM, PST | Tampa Film Examiner | See recent Tampa Film Examiner news »

What's worth checking out inside?

The Winter movie release schedule for 2010 is pretty much a roll-of-the-dice for moviegoers.  Obvious choices like Shutter Island and Alice in Wonderland will attract audiences for a variety of reasons.  Will there be anything else that will standout over the next few months though?  Here's a look at some possible flicks to check out and ones you may want to avoid.

2010 begins with the uber-popular vampire genre in Daybreakers.  Vampires are still a draw these days and that alone will have people heading to the theaters.  Having a top-notch cast that includes Ethan Hawke and Willem Dafoe could give this movie some life (pun intended).  The story seems to be predictable though, and having vampires that aren't terrifying is getting a bit stale.  In the end, fangs=$$$.  This is one of those times where one should read the critics take on this before going in blind. »

Female Lead For ‘Green Lantern’ Down To Five Potentials

23 December 2009 7:00 AM, PST | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

Latino Review has an exclusive look at who might be Carol Ferris, the lucky lady that doesn’t get the ring from Ryan Reynold’s “Hal Jordan” in the upcoming Green Lantern film from DC Entertainment and Warner Bros.

Ferris has been described as “the daughter of aerospace mogul Carl Ferris. She works for her dad’s company Ferris Air, got an Mba, and has a lifetime crush on Hal Jordan.” The website seems to believe that the role comes down to the following five actresses: Eva Green, Keri Russell, Diane Kruger, Blake Lively or Jennifer Garner.

Each of these actresses has had a taste of the action genre (if not a comic book film or two, in Garner’s case) except for Blake Lively. Being from the TV show Gossip Girl and the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants films, she might be a good choice as there’s no »

Jennifer Keeps Her Superhero Body in Great Shape

23 December 2009 2:00 AM, PST | Popsugar.com | See recent Popsugar news »

Jennifer Garner stayed hydrated on Monday after a workout at her gym in Santa Monica. Even though the holidays are right around the corner, fit mom Jennifer isn't letting her exercise routine fall to the wayside. Her dedication might come in handy if the latest casting rumors surrounding Jennifer prove to be true - she's said to be in the running, along with Eva Green, Keri Russell, Blake Lively, and Diane Kruger, for the female lead in The Green Lantern opposite Ryan Reynolds, who also went through a rather public casting process. Geek Gossip: Hawkman, Green Lantern's Carol Ferris, Spider-Man 4, James Bond

22 December 2009 2:25 PM, PST | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

Today's round-up has a distinct superhero (and action hero) motif.

Where there are upcoming films, there is gossip and speculation and the hero genre is no exception.

Sadly, so much turns out to be fiction and fabrication so I am warning readers now to switch on their bulls**t detector and set it to maximum as we head deep into Rumourville.

Only the other day, I brought you the 'story' about Taylor Swift (the singer whose awards acceptance speech was disrupted by Kanye West storming on stage) being a top choice to star in a new Supergirl movie.

The project was allegedly called Supergirl! The Love Story. This rumour originated on Hollyscoop, the site that previously scooped poop when it told us Miley Cyrus was going to be cast as Batgirl. Is the needle on your bulls**t detector twitching yet? It should be.

Okay, so on to today's gossip. »

Which of These Actresses Should Co-Star in 'The Green Lantern'?

22 December 2009 12:57 PM, PST | Fandango | See recent Fandango news »

As another year of superhero movies are now behind us, it’s time to look to the future … and in that future we have Ryan Reynolds starring in The Green Lantern, due in theaters on June 17th, 2011. So far Reynolds is the only person cast in the film, which will be directed by Martin Campbell (Casino Royale) and is based on the popular comic. But according to Latino Review that might change soon, as their sources have revealed the names of the five actresses circling the part of Carol Ferris, who, for those not in the know, will be playing love interest to Hal Jordan (aka Green Lantern).   Assuming Lr is correct, the five ladies are: Eva Green, Keri Russell, Blake Lively, Diane Kruger and Jennifer Garner. Campbell may be leaning toward Eva Green, since he worked with...

5 Actresses Up For Green Lantern Role

22 December 2009 1:15 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

A casting notice including Green Lantern's love interest Carol Ferris was found in September, and it appears that Warner Brothers has narrowed its selection to five actresses. According to Latino Review, either Eva Green (Casino Royale), Keri Russell (Mission Impossible III), Jennifer Garner (Elektra), Diane Kruger (Inglourious Basterds), or Blake Lively (Gossip Girl) will play the part.

Our thoughts: Garner is certainly no stranger to comic book movie fans, but Elektra left a lot to be desired, while Russell provided the voice of Wonder Woman in the animated movie Warners and DC released this year. Kruger had a star-making turn in Basterds, while Lively seems ... largely out of place here. Green may have the upper hand considering that she worked with director Martin Campbell before on Casino Royale. Still, the casting will likely be contingent on how the ladies match up with Ryan Reynolds.

Which actress do you think should get the role? »

'Green Lantern' Rumor: Will One Of These Actresses Play Carol Ferris?

21 December 2009 3:39 PM, PST | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

Another day, another comic book movie rumor... but instead of yet another "Spider-Man 4" bite, this time around we have an unofficial report regarding "Green Lantern."

Citing anonymous sources connected to the project, Latino Review reports that casting for Carol Ferris (the love interest of Ryan Reynolds' Hal Jordan) is down to five potential actresses. The list of names covers a wide spectrum of age and on-screen experience, and includes Eva Green ("Casino Royale"), Keri Russell (who voiced the title character in the animated "Wonder Woman" movie), Diane Kruger ("Inglourious Basterds"), Blake Lively ("Gossip Girl") and Jennifer Garner ("Alektra").

"Per the script, Carol Ferris (27) is the daughter of aerospace mogul Carl Ferris," reports the site. "She works for her dad’s company Ferris Air, got an Mba, and has a lifetime crush on Hal Jordan."

It should be noted (again) that the list of potential actresses is entirely unofficial, »

One of These Ladies is Possibly Green Lantern’s Carol Ferris

21 December 2009 9:35 AM, PST | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

According to the blokes over at Latino Review, one of these five women are currently in contention to join Ryan Reynolds as the female lead in the upcoming big-budget space action extravaganza known as “Green Lantern”. Lr doesn’t know who it is exactly, though they speculate it could be the little lady coming out of “Basterds” on just “heat” alone. Here are the candidates to play Ferris, described as “the daughter of aerospace mogul Carl Ferris. She works for her dad’s company Ferris Air, got an Mba, and has a lifetime crush on Hal Jordan.” Former Bond girl Eva Green. Personally I don’t see it; she’s French, right? Can she even do an American accent? Of course, they could go with her if they wanted exotic. Diane Kruger of “Inglourious Basterds”. Lr’s pick, coming off of “Basterds”. I’m not sure she “matches” Ryan Reynolds, »

One Of These Five Women Will Play The Green Lantern's Girlfriend

21 December 2009 5:59 AM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

El Mayimbe at Latino Review reportedly has a lot of ironclad sources at Hollywood talent agencies, resulting in a number of casting scoops for them well before the trades get wind. But the stuff he digs up, I have to admit, is usually a bit more thrilling than this. He's posted a list of five women who are in the running to play Hal Jordan's girlfriend in the upcoming Green Lantern movie... and it's pretty much the list you would come up with when listing all eligible 30-something actresses who come for relatively cheap. The five are Eva Green (Bond's ex-girlfriend, unbelievably gorgeous), Keri Russell (something of a curveball, given that she hasn't had a major movie role since Mission: Impossible 3, Diane Kruger (on the rise, fresh off a SAG nomination, generally awesome), Blake Lively (the Gossip Girl chick? Wha?) and Jennifer Garner (poor thing... once a superhero, now »

Blake Lively Among the Candidates for 'Green Lantern' Beauty

A "Green Lantern" role could be on the way for 22-year-old Blake Lively. Latino Review has just come out with a scoop that the Serena van der Woodsen of The CW's "Gossip Girl" is one of the five actress being considered to take on the part of Hal Jordan's love interest in the superhero movie.

Should Lively land the part, she will be portraying 27-year-old Carol Ferris, a daughter of aerospace mogul Carl Ferris who works for Ferris Air and has a lifetime crush on the lead character. Her competitions include "Bedtime Stories" actress Keri Russell, "Inglourious Basterds" beauty Diane Kruger, "Elektra" star Jennifer Garner and former Bond girl Eva Green.

Blake Lively made her debut as a leading lady in 2005's "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants". Starring opposite America Ferrera, Amber Tamblyn and Alexis Bledel, she took on the role of Bridget Vreeland. She was recently seen taking »

Before I begin, I have to give massive props to Drew McWeeny for having my back during last week’s Tobey Maguire/The Hobbit kerfuffle.  I highly recommend you read his piece Here because as he says in the last sentence, actors and publicists lie to the press, and acting like every word they speak is truth is just ignorant.Anyway, back to business. So what is going on with The Green Lantern movie? Not much has been heard about the film since they cast Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan/Green Lantern and the production was pulled out of Australia.Well, I did my usual snooping around and I was able to nail down who the five candidates are for the role of Carol Ferris – Hal Jordan’s love interest in the film.Per the script, Carol Ferris (27) is the daughter of aerospace mogul Carl Ferris. Keri Loves Her Coffee Talk in NYC

17 December 2009 1:30 PM, PST | Popsugar.com | See recent Popsugar news »

Keri Russell put on her comfy coat yesterday when she headed out to grab a coffee in NYC. She took her cup to go, then sat outside the cafe to make a quick call on her BlackBerry. It's been a low-key few months for the actress, as she spent time at home in Brooklyn with her leading men River and Shane. Soon she'll be hitting the red carpet, though, when it's time to promote Leaves of Grass with Ed Norton - check out that film's trailer - and Extraordinary Measures, formerly known as Crowley, with Harrison Ford before they hit the big screen soon. (And just in case you missed it, be sure to check out yesterday's "Best Comics Of 2009" list!)

Best Of 2009: Movies / TV / Games

Best Animated Series

"Batman: The Brave and the Bold"

In the end, this category came down to two potential winners: DC's "The Brave and the Bold" and Marvel's "Super Hero Squad." Both series are great fun, take full advantage of their respective characters' universes, and are equally enjoyable by kids and adult comics fans alike. "Brave and the Bold" gets the nod, however, due to its brilliant voice casting and willingness to pair its eclectic cast of real-life actors with the perfect characters, no matter how obscure. The enormous groundswell of sympathy and support surrounding the release of Adrienne Shelly’s “Waitress” blinded most viewers to its clear deficiencies. It might be unfair to conjecture what the critical reception for the good-natured if contrived and shabbily visualized romantic comedy might have been if actress-turned-director Shelly hadn’t been horrifically murdered before its release, but it’s safe to assume the processed-cheesy Keri Russell vehicle wouldn’t have been the subject of quite … »
