Felicity: Season 1 and 2

11 May 2012 2:07 PM, PDT | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

When most people think of the work of J.J. Abrams they think of Star Trek, Lost, Alias, Mission: Impossible III, Super 8 or something along the lines of the more action-heavy feature; it’s in that niche where he’s made a real name for himself. How many people remember that he got his big break when he and Matt Reeves created a simple little drama about an instinctual girl named Felicity navigating her way through the social complications of college life? In Felicity, portrayed by Keri Russell, they created a character whose emotional twists and turns relied heavily on irrational actions to the point where she actually seemed deranged at times. Consequently, the first and second seasons, recently re-released by Lionsgate since the last re-issue in 2009, make for witty but a tad bit melodramatic entertainment.

Review: Felicity Seasons One and Two

2 May 2012 10:24 AM, PDT | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

Before Star Trek was Fringe and Lost, and Alias and before Alias was Felicity. It may be hard to recall that genre wunderkind Abrams actually broke into television by making a splash in 1998 with the WB series about a college girl. Created with Cabin in the Woods collaborator Matt Reeves, the series is worth a second look given the storytelling, music, and keen eye for casting that first introduced to an armload of performers who have gone on to success, including repeat appearances in later Abrams productions. Or do you think Keri Russell’s cameo in Mission: Impossible 3 was an oddity?

Lionsgate has resurrected the first two seasons in newly packaged DVDs, both out this week. The WB knew that a female-skewing series with a high concept would be a good fit for their struggling network so when Abrams and Reeves turned up with the concept, there was excitement. »

Scott Stewart, who wrote and directed 2009’s Legion, has attracted Dimension Films with his newest project, Dark Skies. Stewart has an impressive resume of films such as Sin City and Iron Man that he has done visual effects for through the SFX house, The Orphanage, which had a significant impact in films over the last decade. Dark Skies is Stewart’s fourth feature film as a writer and director.

According to Deadline, Dimension Films has acquired the domestic distribution rights to Stewart’s latest project. Dark Skies will be jointly produced by Insidious producer Jason Blum under his banner Blumhouse Productions and Alliance Films. The Big C Review: Dying to Wake Up

29 April 2012 8:00 PM, PDT | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

Bliss? Charm? Heaven?

Sorry, just trying to come up with Paul's motivational speaking name over here. Following his shining speech on "Family Matters," he's clearly going to need a Joy-like moniker.

Felicity, perhaps? It's feminine, and Keri Russell may have the trademark, but the inspiring pickings are slim for guys in this area.

This was an enjoyable episode of The Big C. Really, it's hard to go wrong when you have a scene with Susan Sarandon acting opposite Laura Linney, along with the ideal use of another guest star: Victor Garber, in a very un-Victor Garber-like role.

Yes, the actor mostly known for playing dapper men of power (Jack Bristow, Jordan Wethersby) donned lipstick, started a sex line business and was an expert at discussing the four steps toward ideal oral satisfaction.

Still, he was no match for Sean. In one of the funniest, most bizarre Big C scenes to date, »

'The Voice': Tony Lucca taps Mickey Mouse Club pal with 'Baby One More Time' performance

23 April 2012 7:39 PM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

Was this supposed to be a dig against Christina Aguilera? If so, it flopped.

"The Voice" contestant Tony Lucca told Zap2it last week that he planned to take his former "Mickey Mouse Club" costar Aguilera's criticism in stride. If you recall, she urged him to focus on his voice and to avoid using his celebrity connections, like "Mmc" pal Justin Timberlake, for "celebrity sway." Her tone was harsh enough that fans rallied to his defense.

Instead of stepping out of the "Mickey Mouse Club" spotlight this week, though, Lucca decided to play up his connection to the 1990s kids' show that kicked off the careers of household names like Aguilera, Timberlake, Britney Spears, Ryan Gosling, and Keri Russell.

With coach Adam Levine's prompting, Lucca performed a new arrangement of Spears' "...Baby One More Time." Levine liked the song for Lucca because of the fun male twist on girl-pop, »

Stephenie Meyer Walks Down A Dark Hall

18 April 2012 7:10 PM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

The Twilight films will be wrapping up this year, but the movies’ source – novelist Stephenie Meyer – is busier than ever. Another of her books, sci-fi-flavoured alien invasion tale The Host, is going through post-production, and the writer herself is developing quite a career as a producer. Using that power, she’s just picked up the rights to adapt spooky novel Down A Dark Hall.Hall was penned by Louis Duncan back in 1974, and begins with young Kit Gordy arriving at the storied Blackwood boarding school. Worryingly, by his arrival the place is less associated with high educational standards and more with haunted goings on during its scary, tragic history. Kit will have to figure out what’s really happening…Meyer will be working with Meghan Hibbert via their Fickle Fish Films and you’ll likely be unsurprised to hear that Twilight  producer Wyck Godfrey is also in talks to get involved. »

Tony Lucca Responds To Christina Aguilera's 'One Dimensional' Slam On 'The Voice'

10 April 2012 9:10 AM, PDT | Access Hollywood | See recent Access Hollywood news »

There was no love between former Mouseketeers on Monday's "The Voice."

Contestant Tony Lucca, who appeared with coach Christina Aguilera, as well as Britney Spears, Ryan Gosling, Justin Timberlake and Keri Russell, on the "Mickey Mouse Club" in the early '90s, received a tough critique from his childhood co-star.

"I thought that was a - you know - good performance, but I just find you to be very one dimensional," Christina told Tony after he performed Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes."

"I think there are just better voices on the show than a celebrity-sway kind of thing," ...

'Titanic,' 'American Pie,' Dawson, boy bands, neon wayfarers: The '90s are back with a vengeance

9 April 2012 6:04 PM, PDT | Pop2it | See recent Pop2it news »

Do not be alarmed. You have not been transported through a wormhole back to 1999... but it might feel like it. April 2012 is looking an awful lot like the 1990s. Whether you're at the movies, watching TV, or picking out your clothes, there's a definite resurgence of '90s nostalgia. For those of us who still remember the '90s like it was yesterday, it's a little weird that it's also, well, today.

First of all, there's the fact that James Van Der Beek is back on television. "Don't Trust The B---- in Apartment 23" premieres this Wednesday, April 11. In the ABC comedy, Van Der Beek plays a fictional version of himself -- a version that wears "Dawson's Creek" flannel and blasts Paula Cole's "I Don't Want To Wait" in order to seduce women.

On a related note, all three leads from "Felicity" (Keri Russell, Scott Foley, and Scott Speedman »

Horror Round-Up: Maria Bello Eyeing House Of Horror; Keri Russell in Talks for Dark Skies

4 April 2012 11:10 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

We’ve got a couple of horror-related casting stories to share today.  First up, Bloody Disgusting reports that Maria Bello is in talks to star in House of Horror.  Produced by James Wan (Insidious), the story centers on a lead detective and a police psychologist who question a suspect following the brutal murder of five college students.  Should she sign on, Bello would take the psychologist role.  Xavier Gens (The Divide) was previously attached to direct, but he’s no longer involved with the project.  The report doesn't specify the structure of the film, but I'm assuming it's not just two people talking to a suspect for 90 minutes.  Producers are currently looking for a new director to sign on.  Bello recently starred in the NBC drama Prime Suspect, but the series was not picked up for a second season due to low ratings. 'Dark Skies' Marks Two For Abduction Film

4 April 2012 10:19 AM, PDT | bloody-disgusting.com | See recent Bloody-Disgusting.com news »

Hidden within an article a few weeks ago it was revealed that Legion and Priest director Scott Charles Stewart would be getting behind the camera for Dimension Films' Dark Skies, some sort of sci-fi horror that was being kept secret. That's never good enough for us here on Bloody Disgusting, which is why I put in a few calls and started digging. Being produced by Blumhouse and Alliance Films, we've exclusively learned that the horror flick focuses on a 6-year-old boy who's apparently been "marked" by an alien (living among us) for future abduction. It looks like it taps into some of the same themes of Fright Night, while also playing into child abuse (did the parents cause these marks on the child's body?) Keri Russell (Mission: Impossible III, Grimm Love) and Daniel Barrett are both in talks, Bd also discovered. They would play the young boys parents, who »

FX’s ‘Anger Management’ To Be Rated TV-14, Charlie Sheen “Rested, Fit & Hungry”

29 March 2012 5:00 PM, PDT | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »

The upcoming Charlie Sheen comedy series Anger Management was understandably a focal point at FX’s upfront event in New York today. Despite some of Sheen’s X-Rated off-screen antics and the racy content on most of FX’s other comedy series, including Louie and Wilfred, Anger Management will carry the family-friendly TV-14 rating, same as Sheen’s previous series, Two And A Half Men (as well as another hit series, The Big Bang Theory). That is understandable as the series is done under Debmar-Mercury’s 10-90 model whose success is tied to selling the show in broadcast syndication, something hard to do with the restrictive TV-ma rating. FX didn’t show footage from Anger Management, which is a week into production (Sheen offered first-glimpse images on Today this morning), but showed a video with Sheen who told advertisers, “I’m rested, fit and hungry.” During the presentation, FX President »

Today at MTV News we celebrate the birthday of actor Nathan Fillion. By “we” I mostly mean “I,” because I’m the only one around here with a mini-shrine to Nathan at my desk. But I invite you join me in the celebration, dear reader!

To get the party started, I present to you my Five Favorite Fillion Films, in list form. “Wait,” I hear you say, “Doesn’t Nathan Fillion do TV?” ‘Tis true, my astute fellow Fillionaire – he’s known primarily for his television roles on such shows as “Castle,” “Firefly” and “The Sitcom with Ryan Reynolds and Another Guy and a Girl and a Pizza Place.” But Nathan has done some fine work in film as well (and he will do more, as he’s just been cast as Hermes - a God! - in the “Percy Jackson” sequel). My faves are after the jump!

Keri Russell was spotted walking on the streets of NYC yesterday after shopping at C.O. Bigelow in the West Village. She was out and about just ahead of her 36th birthday, which is today! It's already been an exciting few months for Keri, who welcomed her second child Willa Lou, a few days before the new year. Keri brought Willa out near the family's home in Brooklyn a few weeks later, though we haven't seen the almost-3-month-old since. The mom of two will soon switch back into business gear when production on FX's new series The Americans gets started later this Spring. She'll star opposite Matthew Rhys in the drama, which follows her big-screen project, Austenland. View Slideshow › »
