With this week’s American Idol theme of “Home” the Idols chose songs representing their home towns. While the contestants made some unique song choices, would it have killed any of them to try “Sweet Home Alabama” or even Kid Rock’s “All Summer Long”--which pays homage to both Michigan and Alabama? Or even “Home” by Idol champ, Phillip Phillips? Wednesday night’s performance show crackled with drama, as Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr. got into an endless debate about contestants singing “sharp” but with “feeling.” Jennifer Lopez and Urban also slipped into mentor roles, singing back to contestants and

The supremely bizarre news that Dmx is going to box George Zimmerman ("and in this corner, the man who shot and killed an unarmed teenager. . .") got us thinking about MTV's Celebrity Deathmatch. For those of you that didn't watch MTV in the late '90s and early 2000's, Celebrity Deathmatch was an ultra-violent claymation show where celebrities of the day like Jerry Springer, Fiona Apple, Puff Daddy and Carmen Electra boxed each other, often to the death. It wasn't uncommon for them to reach Mortal Kombat-like ends with celebrities regularly getting skinned alive or disemboweled. »
It was the wardrobe malfunction that introduced the world to the phrase wardrobe malfunction, and I never even saw it. I missed all of Super Bowl Xxxviii, actually. I’d been in New York visiting old friends, my flight home left around 5 p.m., and live television on airplanes was still rare. When I landed at Lax, I was like Rick Grimes in the first episode of The Walking Dead, waking to a world that was fundamentally different and deeply irritating. Yes, Nipplegate happened ten years ago this week, so I decided that for this edition of my "Somewhere in Time" column — in which I look back at the pop culture we were loving at different points in the past — I will revisit what we were listening to when Janet Jackson stole our innocence. Here are the top 40 singles from January 31, 2004.40. Kid Rock, “Cold and Empty”If you’re familiar »

Certificate: Not rated.
Running Time: 96 minutes.
Synopsis: A documentary on the 1970s punk trio Death and their new-found popularity decades after they disbanded.
A Band Called Death probably won’t reveal any great big truths about the world that you didn’t already know. Its first half is a slow (at times too slow) portrait of a failed 1970s punk band who had all the makings of something that could have been successful if it had not been for ‘artistic integrity’ and a refusal to change their name. Overall it looks like the film will slowly fizzle out into bland obscurity. But then something happens and the film changes shape into a story about redemption, resurrection and faith.
The main interviewees are the two surviving members of the group that was formed »

Cougar Town Season 5, Episode 2 “Like a Diamond”
Written by Melody Durloshon
Directed by Brian Van Holt
Airs Tuesday nights at 10pm on TBS
Like last week’s season premiere, “Like a Diamond” takes a common idea – here, it’s ‘truth’ – and embeds it in each plot of the episode in some way. However, unlike last week, “Like a Diamond” is never funny or interesting enough to give weight to any of its events, a victim to stunt casting and some of the more uncomfortable Unlikable Jules material we’ve seen since Cougar Town‘s moved to TBS. As with previous efforts to bring the Friends cast to Cougar Town, Matthew Perry’s short visit to Florida is nothing more than empty comedy, often at the expense of its main character.
Perry guest stars as Sam Johnston, a rich, lonely venture capitalist who Jules drives into looking for her wedding ring »

"I say we're best friends… with benefits," Anderson told Ellen DeGeneres, who asked about the rumored reconciliation on her talk show in October.
