AwesomenessTV is making the jump from digital screens to television screens. Again. The multi-channel network’s hit musical web series Side Effects will make its TV debut as a 90-minute feature film on E! on April 17, 2015.
Originally released as a long-form series on AwesomenessTV’s channel in October 2013, Side Effects tells the story of 16-year-old Whitney, who experiences musical hallucinations from the medication she’s taking to deal with the loss of her mother and the disappearance of her father. The series was a hit in its original online release and garnered over two million views in its first week on YouTube.
The Side Effects’ movie iteration will include some unreleased content, and will be broadcast exclusively on E! on April 17. The film will then be available for digital purchase the following day via Amazon Instant Video, Google Play, iTunes, Xbox, Vudu, and Mgo. The new Side Effects footage will »

E! will air “Side Effects,” which keys off the phenomenon of people posting cover songs on YouTube, on April 17 at 3 p.m. Et. That will be followed by the April 18 digital-download release on Apple’s iTunes, Amazon Instant Video, Google Play, M-Go, Vudu and Microsoft’s Xbox on April 18. The E! broadcast will include previously unreleased content, which will then be posted on AwesomenessTV’s YouTube channel as the series’ third season on April 18.

AwesomenessTV and Defy Media have announced that Smosh: The Movie, starring YouTube sensations Ian Hecox and Anthony Padilla, will have its world premiere at the Vidcon convention in Anaheim, California on July 23. Alex Winter (Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure) directed the comedy feature, which centers on Ian Hecox and Anthony Padilla's characters trying to erase an embarrassing video of Padilla before his high school crush can see it. The movie features a number of YouTube stars such as Grace Helbig, Harley Morenstein, Mark Edward Fischbach, Jenna Marbles and Dominic 'D-Trix' Sandoval in supporting roles, alongside Steve Austin, Michael Ian Black, Peter Breitmayer, Jillian Nelson and Brittany Ross. Back in March, Verizon inked a deal with AwesomenessTV which would bring over 200 hours of original programming to a new over-the-top channel for Verizon’s consumer base. At the time, no titles or content plans were announced. Now, at Cannes’ Mip Digital Fronts, AwesomenessTV has revealed its first series for Verizon’s upcoming platform, as well as divulged information on expanding internationally and developing new content.
The first piece of programming Awesomeness will develop for Verizon is a series called Guidance. Already in production, Guidance stars Michelle Trachtenberg from the TV show Gossip Girl. AwesomenessTV’s President Brett Bouttier told the Digital Fronts audience, as reported by The Video Ink, that Verizon will have the exclusive first showing of Guidance before the series is available to global markets.

Each year, a select group of Hollywood executives choose films for the "Black List," a roster of the best unproduced screenplays from the previous year. Acclaimed films that once appeared on this list include The Wolf of Wall Street, Slumdog Millionaire, and The Hangover.
Now, AwesomenessTV and Film 360 will bring one of 2013's Black List entries to fruition. The teen-focused entertainment company and the production studio have teamed up to produce Shovel Buddies, which was #8 on the 2013 Black List.
Shovel Buddies, written by Jason Hellerman, follows four teenagers as they attempt to complete the bucket list of a friend who has died of leukemia. "Along the way," reads a press release, "they learn more about themselves, their own relationships and the true meaning of friendship."

Verizon has a new deal which should make plenty of its younger customers happy. The New York-based communications giant will bring two over-the-top channels from AwesomenessTV and DreamWorksTV to its consumer base.
As part of the multi-year deal, Verizon has ordered more than 200 hours of original programming from both AwesomenessTV and DreamWorksTV. Both scripted and non-scripted content from AwesomenessTV will be aimed at teens and younger millennials, while the DreamWorksTV offerings will contain short-form live-action and animated content suitable for families.
A spokesperson for Verizon noted the three companies will be putting a heavy emphasis on a mobile-first approach to content distribution. Further details about content delivery specifics will be announced at a later date. All Verizon’s new Ott content from AwesomenessTV and DreamWorksTV will only be available in the U.S.

United Talent Agency (UTA) has promoted one of its digital-forward employees to the esteemed rank of partner. The Beverly Hills-based talent and literary agency has made agent Brent Weinstein head of the company’s Digital Media division.
As UTA’s new partner and digital head, Weinstein essentially gets confirmation of the role he’s been performing for years. The executive helped form UTA’s digital media department back in 2003; since then, he’s led a team of agents, developing opportunities for and advising UTA’s clients within the digital division. Some of Weinstein’s past clients include YouTubers Shane Dawson, Hannah Hart, and iJustine; Derek Jeter’s digital media startup The Players’ Tribune; Universal Music Group; and the producers of Vidcon and Montreal’s Just For Laughs Comedy Festival.

Back in October 2014, Netflix announced a pact with AwesomenessTV to bring the popular 1950s comic strip Richie Rich to the streaming platform as a kids’ TV show. Now, the updated retelling has ten episodes available on Netflix as of February 20, 2015.
The original Richie Rich featured the titular character as the son of rich parents, but Netflix’s version finds Richie (played by Dark Skies’s Jake Brennan) as a self-made entrepreneur. The youngster became a trillionaire after selling the green technology he invented because he stashed away his dinner vegetables instead of eating them.
Now, Richie now drives a mini Lamborghini around the huge house he shares with his father (Kiff VandenHeuvel), sister Harper (Lauren Taylor), friend Murray (Joshua Carlon), and friend Darcy (Jenna Ortega). There’s also Richie’s female robot assistant Irona (Brooke Wexler).

Following the initial announcement back in October, Netflix has released the first trailer for their new Richie Rich TV series. All 21 episodes of Season 1 will be available for Netflix subscribers in the Us, Canada and Latin America starting Friday, February 20. Richie Rich is a series about the richest kid in the world. After making a trillion dollars by inventing and selling a cool new green technology, Richie moves into a decked out mansion and instantly starts living the most awesome life ever.

AwesomenessTV will soon boast a title in Netflix’s streaming library. The YouTube multi-channel network’s comedy film Expelled, starring Viner Cameron Dallas, will debut on the streaming video-on-demand service on February 1, 2015.
In Expelled, Dallas (who boasts 6.8 million followers on Vine alone) stars as trouble-maker Felix, who gets kicked out of high school after pranking one too many times. Felix turns to his brother (fellow Vine star Marcus Johns), best friend (up-and-coming Instagram and Twitter personality Matt Shively), new friend (YouTuber and fellow AwesomenessTV talent Lia Maria Johnson), and classmate (Vine celebrity Andrea Russett) for help in convincing his parents he’s not only still in school, but also doing a great job at that.
