Cristela, ABC‘s semi-autobiographical multi-camera comedy co-created by and starring rising stand-up comedian Cristela Alonzo, has locked in its main cast. Terri Hoyos, Roxana Ortega, Carlos Ponce and Andrew Leeds (NCIS: La) have been cast as regulars and newcomer Sarah Halford as recurring in the “proof of concept”/presentation, from 20th TV and 21 Laps/Adelstein. The show, co-written by Alonzo and Kevin Hench, tells the story of Cristela (Alonzo), an American Latina straddling two cultures while not fully belonging to either. Cristela, in her sixth year of law school and living rent-free with her older, thinner, prettier, more traditional sister Daniela (Ortega) and brother-in-law Felix (Ponce), lands a prestigious law firm internship as her old world, outspoken, good-hearted mother Natalia (Hoyos) hectors her about getting a real job, her brother-in-law encourages her to move out and her sister runs low on patience.
