#SquadGoals Strike Again: Why Kelly Ripa and Jimmy Kimmel Make Such Great Live! Co-Hosts

16 May 2016 5:18 PM, PDT | E! Online | See recent E! Online news »

There's a reason why you've spent today thinking, "Why doesn't Jimmy Kimmel join Kelly Ripa full-time? He already hosts a show with Live in the title, after all!" Though you already know that the answer is, "because the New York native hosts a late-night show and makes his home in Los Angeles now," the chemistry was indeed real this morning when Jimmy co-hosted Live! 's first show since Michael Strahan's departure last week. "I'm like the ex-boyfriend you go back to for sex after you break up with your husband," Jimmy joked on Live! this morning, referring to the fact that he was also her first guest co-host when Regis Philbin left the show in 2011. It's all about Kelly Ripa.  Following Michael Strahan's "low-key" final episode on Live! With Kelly and Michael on Friday, the ABC talk show debuted its new logo and name on Facebook and Twitter on Sunday. While the show begins its search for a new co-host, with Jimmy Kimmel set to serve as the first guess co-host on Monday, the new Twitter handle is @LiveKelly, with the show's Twitter bio revealing its new name is "Live with Kelly." Longtime fans will remember the show used the same name after Regis Philbin's 2012 departure, before Strahan secured the seat on a full-time basis.  The show also debuted a new logo following Strahan's exit, which simply »

Michael Strahan on ‘Live with Kelly and Michael’ Final Show: ‘It’s Bittersweet’

13 May 2016 6:16 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan were all smiles and hugging on Friday at the start of Strahan’s final outing as co-host of “Live with Kelly and Michael.”

The pair spoke briefly about Strahan’s departure after nearly four years on “Live” for a permanent slot on “Good Morning America.” Strahan said showed some emotion but also sought to downplay the melodrama of the situation that was magnified by Ripa’s angry response to having been kept in the dark about the decision to shift Strahan until moments before the news was made public.

“It’s bittersweet,” Strahan said. “This is a moment I didn’t anticipate being here. (But) it’s here we’re going to enjoy it. I’m not dying. I’m still in the family. I’m still available to come back if I’m ever called to co host….I’m not going anywhere.”

Michael Strahan Says Goodbye to Kelly Ripa on Live! With Kelly and Michael: "It's Bittersweet"

13 May 2016 6:13 AM, PDT | E! Online | See recent E! Online news »

Michael Strahan's four-year run on Live! With Kelly and Michael ended rather unceremoniously Friday. Unlike the sendoffs given to Live!'s Regis Philbin and Kathie Lee Gifford in years past, Strahan's farewell episode was a much quieter affair—no doubt a result of the controversy surrounding his exit. Strahan preferred the "simple and low-key" approach, though. As a source told E! News earlier this week, "He doesn't need hoopla. He appreciates everyone's efforts but it's not something he expects or needs." And, as Strahan himself confirmed on Friday's show, "I don't like a big to-do about it." Tensions have been running especially high since Apr. 19, when »

Kelly Ripa didn't have to face the recent drama surrounding Michael Strahan's exit from Live! alone. Kelly Ripa's Dilemma: Why the Live Host Needs a New Pal, Not a Bestie, Sitting Alongside Her

2 May 2016 4:31 PM, PDT | TVLine.com | See recent TVLine.com news »

In just under two weeks, Michael Strahan will doff his hat, back away from the Live With Kelly and Michael hosts’ table, and bid adieu to the show he’s called home for the last four years.

Strahan, of course, is headed for Good Morning America come September — and news of his departure blindsided his co-host Kelly Ripa and set fire to any and all warm fuzzies ABC had hoped would surround the transition. The way it all went down probably will yield a few more awkward on-air exchanges before the duo goes their separate ways, too.
