We recently reported that the Mistress of the Dark is returning soon to host horror flicks in Hulu’s 13 Nights of Elvira. Now you can get a taste of the humor to come, as Hulu and Brainstorm Media have provided us with a clip in which Elvira offers witty remarks on 1985’s Trancers and Oscar winner Helen Hunt before imagining what she would say upon winning an Academy Award.
Cassandra Peterson stars as the legendary horror hostess on Hulu’s 13 Nights of Elvira, streaming exclusively on the site beginning October 19th and running through Halloween. Each night Elvira will introduce a fright film and offer occasional comedic commentary—a setup similar to her Movie Macabre performances. Here’s the official schedule:
Cannibal Women In The Avocado Jungle of Death (1989) Sunday, Oct. 19 Puppet Master (1989) Monday, Oct. 20 Demonic Toys (1992) Tuesday, Oct. 21 Hobgoblins (1988) Wednesday, Oct. 22 The Gingerdead Man (2005) Thursday, Oct. 23 Dollman (1991) Friday, Oct. »

For as long as there are horror and sci-fi movies of, shall we say, questionable quality there will be...Elvira. The Mistress of the Dark returns to the small screen in a new Hulu series called 13 Nights of Elvira and this time, she'll be poking fun at a new crop of films with her usual flavor of humor.
The titles include Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death, Puppet Master, Demonic Toys, Hobgoblins, The Gingerdead Man, Dollman, Trancers, Oblivion, Shrunken Heads, Hideous, Evil Bong, Seedpeople and Night of the Living Dead.

Cassandra Peterson is back and shes all decked out in that sexy Elvira getup. The legendary horror host will make a move to the subscription based Hulu this year for the new series 13 Nights of Elvira. Shell reprise her dual roles of Alistair Cooke and Roger Ebert. Expect the Personification of Instant Gratification to bring her quick wit and silly puns to the broadcast it wouldnt be an Elvira production without them »
Hulu’s heart is on fire for Elvira. The Mistress of Dark is headed to the subscription-based and (perhaps soon-to-be slightly less) ad-supported “premium streaming TV destination” for a brand new series this Halloween season. 13 Nights of Elvira will feature Cassandra Peterson once again suited up in what very well may be the original stereotypical sexy girl’s Halloween costume to reprise her dual roles of Alistair Cooke and Roger Ebert for the B grade horror movie set. The program is a streaming iteration of Peterson’s cult classic Elvira’s Movie Macabre (which is also currently available on Hulu), and will feature pithy intros, and poignant, punny commentary from the self-proclaimed Personification of Instant Gratification. Elvira will playfully praise and skewer the following terrifically terrible flicks on the daily starting October 19: Cannibal Women In The Avocado Jungle of Death, Puppet Master, Demonic Toys, Hobgoblins, The Gingerdead Man, Dollman, »

[Editors Note: Given that we've already reviewed the Vinegar Syndrome release of Graduation Day and both discs are virtually identical bar the extras, we thought we'd review the Major difference between the two Blu-ray releases - the bonus feature on the UK disc, the documentary Scream Queens: Horror Heroines Exposed]
It’s fair to say I’m a sucker for scream queen “documentaries”. Be they the T&A filled features such as Scream Queen Hollywood Hot Tub Party, more amateur-hour productions such as Donald Farmer’s shot-on-video Invasion of the Scream Queens, or the awesome scream queen interviews that featured in Stephen King’s World of Horror – if it features an interview with a scream queen then I’m there. I’m also a fan of the documentaries and Blu-ray extras produced by High Rising Productions – including their previously released slasher movie documentary: Slice and Dice: The Slasher Movie Forever.
Put the two together and… I’m in filmic heaven!
Directed by UK-horror scene stalwart Calum Waddell and hosted by scream queen Debbie Rochon (Terror Firmer, Tromeo and Juliet) Scream Queens: Horror Heroines Exposed features, in a change of pace for horror documentaries, especially those focusing on females in the genre, »

If you grew up in the '80s, chances are you came across Elvira's original syndicated horror movie series Movie Macabre, in which the "Hostess with the Mostest" would present (and take the piss out of) various low budget horror flicks. Now Shock Till You Drop report that the lovely lady will return on October 19th to give her take on the likes of Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death, Evil Bong, Seed People, Shrunken Heads, and finally on Halloween night, Night of the Living Dead. Give Elvira a follow on Twitter to stay abreast of all her news. »

Cassandra Peterson turned 63 last week -- but her alter-ego, Elvira, hasn't aged a day!The Mistress of the Dark debuted her brand new stage show at Knott's Scary Farm on Thursday night, appropriately named "Elvira's Big Top," and she's back to her old tricks.Garters, corsets and her infamous black dress were all part of the circus-themed show, which proved that age ain't nothing but a number for this scream queen.Need further proof? This is a huge week for horror fans, as the highly anticipated Halloween box set arrives from Anchor Bay and Scream Factory to officially set the mood for autumn and begin the countdown to the spookiest day of the year. There are also several other fantastic Blu-ray and DVD collections joining the ranks of Michael Myers as well, including Elvira, Jigsaw and Pazuzu!
One of my personal favorites, The Innocents, is also getting the hi-def treatment from Criterion this week, as well as the late 80’s cult classic StageFright, which is being released by Blue Underground. There are also a few new films getting released, including Wer, Found and the sci-fi thriller The Signal. Fans of Sonno Profondo will also be able to pick up a copy of the film on VHS this week too.

The 1985 classic film Pee-Wee's Big Adventure was Tim Burton's feature directorial debut, and it was such a fun and entertaining ride. Every time I see it, it brings back a lot of great nostalgic memories having grown up watching it as many times as I could. I thought it'd be fun to put together a list of ten fun facts about the movie that you may or may not already know.
There were ten to twelve custom made red and white bicycles built for the movie by Pedal Pusher Bike Shop in Newport Beach CA. As payment they were given the choice to choose $10,000 and no screen credit or just screen credit and no money. Is it Halloween yet? The video for Ryan Adams's latest track, "Gimme Something Good," is already getting us excited for October. The rocker enlisted Elvira (aka Cassandra Peterson) to star in the video, which shows him pining over the famed Mistress of the Dark. Peterson is 62, but we must say she's still got it . . . And she's definitely flaunting it. The song is catchy, but even if you're not into rock music, this video is creepily entertaining. Adams's next album is self-titled and due out on Sept. 9. Until then, check out the video below. »
Earlier this summer we reported that 88 Films will be releasing Graduation Day and Mother’s Day to Blu-ray in the UK, and now 1981′s Don’t Go in the Woods… Alone will also be given the UK high-definition treatment. Released in 1981, Graduation Day has become a favourite of slasher movie fans thanks to its plasma-spurting set pieces, maniacal mystery-killer storyline and a cast of cult celebrities that includes Christopher George (City of the Living Dead), Vanna White (Wheel of Fortune) and the perennially topless Scream Queen Linnea Quigley. Now set for a Blu-ray release, with a stunning print restored and re-mastered from a colourful 4k scan, from the folks at 88 Films, Graduation Day will arrive in the UK with an array of newly created special features from High Rising Productions including a new feature length documentary entitled Scream Queens: Horror Heroines Exposed.

On April 30th 1954, a Finnish-American actress, showgirl and pin-up named Maila Nurmi sashayed down a dark corridor fogged with dry ice, stopped on cue and unleashed a bloodcurdling scream. She was sporting her best faux-Morticia Addams dress, vampy fingernails, long black hair and an imperious expression. After the introductory trance and shriek that began every episode of Kabc TV’s The Vampira Show, the host would recline on a skull-decorated Victorian couch and mockingly introduce one of any number of low-budget and no-budget horror films for her late-night television audience. Vampira was the first horror host in American television, appearing on the air only five short years after the station first signed on in Los Angeles.

A light-hearted but entertaining look back at the glory days of VHS tapes and those who still remain passionate about them today, Rewind This! is a near-perfect documentary. Rewind This! explores the historical impact of VHS and celebrates everything we love about the now-dormant format that lives on through the collectors who still pound the pavement in search of the perfect tape.
Directed by Josh Johnson, Rewind This! features a fantastic blend of informative interviews with those who were there firsthand when VHS forever changed the entertainment industry, including Charles Band, Lloyd Kaufman, Frank Henenlotter, Roy Frumkes, Cassandra Peterson and many others. Johnson uses his experts to lay the foundation and then fills in the gaps with an array of fan and collector interviewees that proves that even though VHS tapes are a thing of yesteryear, there may never be a format that will ever revolutionize home movie distribution the »
