NBC Pulls the Plug on Bill Cosby Comedy Project Amid Rape Allegations

19 November 2014 11:30 AM, PST | PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news »

Less than 24 hours after Netflix postponed a planned Bill Cosby special, NBC nixed a comedy project that could have brought the 77-year-old comedian back to primetime. An insider confirmed to People that the project is no longer in development for summer or fall 2015. The idea came from Mike O'Malley (Glee) and Mike Sikowitz and was only in the early stages; the duo hadn't even delivered a script. The hope was for Cosby to play a patriarch of a multi-generational family in a classic family sitcom, and there was even talk of O'Malley playing one of the sons-in-law. But that was »

NBC's Bill Cosby project will not move forward

19 November 2014 11:08 AM, PST | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

As new accusations of rape and sexual impropriety are levied against Bill Cosby, the comedy legend's broadcast partners are, predictably, pulling back. One day after Netflix announced that it was postponing the premiere date for the comedy special "Bill Cosby 77" (and one day after former supermodel Janice Dickinson told Entertainment Tonight that Cosby raped her in 1982), NBC confirms that it will not be moving forward with plans to bring Cosby back to TV with a new pilot. Back in July at the Television Critics Association press tour, NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke described the Cosby show as "an important show for us." At the time, the project was described as a multi-cam set at Sony with Mike Sikowitz and Mike O'Malley writing. "It’s a multigenerational family show, so it’s very ensemble," Salke said. "Bill Cosby plays the patriarch of the family dispelling his classic wisdom on relationships, parenthood, »

Netflix Postpones Bill Cosby Comedy Special

18 November 2014 8:30 PM, PST | PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news »

Bill Cosby won't be telling jokes on Netflix anytime soon. In light of the groundswell of accusations from women who have accused the 77-year-old comedian of sexual assault, the pay service opted against giving Cosby a platform on Nov. 27. "At this time we are postponing the launch of the new stand-up comedy special Bill Cosby 77," Netflix said Tuesday evening in a statement. Cosby's publicist has reportedly said the decision was mutual. The special was billed as a birthday celebration for Cosby, who was expected to share "intimate and wildly entertaining stories from his childhood, first loves, and the endless adventure of parenthood. »

Review: Starz's 'Survivor's Remorse' aims to build a better 'Entourage'

3 October 2014 1:26 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

To describe the new Starz comedy "Survivor's Remorse" as "NBA Entourage" sounds at once accurate and dismissive. Accurate because it's a show about a twentysomething phenom sharing his fame and fortune with his closest friends and family, dismissive because the actual "Entourage" was pretty horrible by the end. But "Entourage" was entertaining before it became bloated and self-congratulatory and contemptuous of its own fans. And its laziness prevented it from thoroughly exploring all those questions about the intersection of family and celebrity, and of staying true to your roots even as you have the money and opportunity to do things you couldn't even dream of growing up. There's a ton of untapped potential in the idea, as demonstrated by the four episodes of "Survivor's Remorse" (it debuts tomorrow at 9 p.m.) that I've seen. NBC Exec Breaks Silence on 'Community' Cancellation

14 July 2014 9:25 AM, PDT | Rollingstone.com | See recent Rolling Stone news »

NBC officially expelled Community back in May, canceling the eccentric cult comedy after its fifth season. Fans rallied to keep the series on the air with a web campaign based on the mantra "six seasons and a movie," but the network wasn't interested in heeding those audience demands. According to entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt, the decision to pass came down to ratings, plain and simple.

Watch: LeBron James' Starz Comedy 'Survivor's Remorse' Gets a Very Dramatic Teaser

10 June 2014 10:10 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

LeBron James may be on the cusp of his third NBA title right now, but he wants you to know that getting there wasn't easy. That's the gist of the Starz sports comedy James is executive producing -- the network's first foray into the genre -- but you'd never know it from watching the teaser below. Flashing statistic after statistic over images of various basketball hoops, "Survivor's Remorse" looks like it could be a hard-hitting drama taking on the difficult subject of seriously pursuing professional sports as a life choice. It even states the percentage of former players who go bankrupt after five years out of the game is 41 percent, a daunting figure for a lifestyle treated like winning the lottery (though a lot of those people go bankrupt, too). The only problem? "Survivor's Remorse" is a comedy. The other Ep's are Tom Werner, who worked on "The Cosby Show" and "That 70's Show, »
