In Defense Of... 1984's charming franchise-destroyer Supergirl

13 hours ago | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - Movie News news »

In a parallel universe, 1984's big screen Supergirl is very different. It stars Melanie Griffith in the title role, John Travolta as the main love interest, a cameo from Christopher Reeve's Superman and - bizarrely - Dolly Parton as the villain.

Sadly, in our universe, none of those possibilities came to fruition - our favourite reason for someone not taking part is that Dolly stated no amount of money would convince her to play a witch - meaning our earth's Supergirl is almost entirely populated with unknowns. That's with the exception of a handful of famous supporting faces - Faye Dunaway was almost certainly a better pick than Dolly.

Which isn't to say that the unknowns do an apocalyptically bad job, but we can't help wondering if those more established actors' experience might have carried the weight of what's actually a pretty strange movie, with slightly less strain.

Conan O'Brien Took Women To Magic Mike Xxl And It Was Hilariously Awkward

3 July 2015 10:57 AM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Channing Tatum's Magic Mike Xxl is a movie that is geared toward a...specific audience. This can lead the rest of us to wondering exactly what does go on in those movies. Luckily, we have intrepid explorers like Conan O'Brien who are willing to venture into parts unknown so that the rest of us may remain safe. He took several of his female staffers on an outing to see the film and the result was fantastic, and also terrible. The evening begins with drinks at the apartment of Conan.s own personal assistant, where everybody was meeting for the evening, and a discussion of the various attributes of several of the film.s stars, including Channing Tatum and Joe Manganiello. Conan then makes his own attempt at the "floor hump," a move we have on good authority is well represented in the movie. After dinner at the aptly named »

Conan O'Brien Crashed a 'Magic Mike Xxl' Girls Night - and It Was Glorious

3 July 2015 9:45 AM, PDT | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

The petition for "Magic Conan" starts now!

If you think about it, a midnight showing of "Magic Mike Xxl" might be a good place for a guy to find a date. Not that Conan O'Brien was going that route -- even though the married man did take off his shirt and gyrate repeatedly for his assistant and her friends. He said the "Conan" staff were freaking out over the release of the "Magic Mike" sequel, so he decided to investigate by crashing a "girls night" midnight showing.

You have to watch it all play out in his 9 minute video, below.

All the ladies met at his assistant's apartment so, in the dead of night, Conan led cameras to her door. "It's like an episode of 'Cops,'" he said, "only instead of arresting murderers I'm just hanging out with some women and seeing a movie." He proceeded to make fun »

Best of Late Night TV: Danielle Brooks's Nsfw Taystee Rap, Halle Berry Cancels, 'Couple or Friends?'

1 July 2015 12:03 AM, PDT | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night.

Halle Berry was supposed to be on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" Tuesday night to promote tonight's premiere of "Extant" Season 2. But she canceled, apparently not feeling well, which Jimmy said was a particular blow to Guillermo, who was looking forward to seeing her. So they did a little sketch where Jimmy broke the news to his sidekick, and a lot of slapping ensued. Kathy Griffin filled in for Halle Berry, who "hurt her back" (Kathy's air quotes). Jimmy said he called Kathy Tuesday afternoon as a last-minute fill-in. Kathy took the opportunity to shade Halle a teensy bit and promote her 80-city tour. Rob Corddry, who is on the new show "Ballers, »

If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night.

"Jimmy Kimmel Live" and "Conan" are the only late night talk shows to air new episodes this week -- besides Jon Stewart's countdown to the end of his run on "The Daily Show." Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers and James Corden are all on repeats. But never fear, 'cause the Khaleesi is here to entertain us!

British actress Emilia Clarke -- aka Sarah Connor in the new "Terminator Genisys" and Queen Dany Targaryen on "Game of Thrones" -- was on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" Monday night, and discussed shooting the new "Terminator" movie in New Orleans. Best of Late Night TV: Channing Tatum's Kid Theater, Jon Hamm Was Fired From Lizzy Caplan Pilot

If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night.

What does "Magic Mike" mean to an 8-year-old? It's time to find out, in the most adorable way possible. Channing Tatum was on "The Tonight Show" and he and Jimmy Fallon re-enacted scenes from Chan's movie, "Magic Mike Xxl." The catch, though, was that the scenes were not from the male stripper movie, it was another round of Kid Theater, where kids were just given the name "Magic Mike" and asked to write scenes on the topic. Interestingly enough, even innocent magic references are loaded with "pumping" and "blow" sexual innuendo. Are these scenes ever really written by children or just childish adults?

Channing also shared a story from the "Magic Mike Xxl" set. »
