How NFL and ‘Chicago’ Star Eddie George Learned Shakespeare From Jude Law

30 April 2016 9:14 AM, PDT | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

When Eddie George was catching touchdown passes and breaking rushing and receiving records for the Tennessee Titans, no one expected that one day he would be singing and dancing his way through musical theater. But that is exactly what the Heisman Trophy winner and four-time NFL Pro Bowler is doing this week, when he stars in “Chicago” at the Hollywood Pantages Theatre as charming lawyer Billy Flynn, opposite Grammy winner Brandy Norwood as Roxie Hart. The 42-year-old former running back (who retired from football in 2004) is reprising the role from his Broadway debut earlier this year, after previously taking on the title roles in. »

Why I love… Brandy

29 April 2016 10:00 PM, PDT | The Guardian - TV News | See recent The Guardian - TV News news »

‘A braided angel, a mortal with an immortal voice and the sweetest smile you ever saw, Brandy was everything I wanted to be’

Long before we pledged Twilight allegiance to Team Jacob or Team Edward, there was a pop culture moment that required teens to take sides. It was 1998, and the contenders were singers: Monica, who had sung gospel since the age of 10 and whose short haircut left me awestruck; and a braided angel, a mortal with an immortal voice and the sweetest smile you ever saw. Brandy was everything I wanted to be.

Brandy’s debut single, I Wanna Be Down, was perfect for a 12-year-old who read Just Seventeen and wanted more than anything to be a grownup. She sounded like she could be your friend, and looked like it, too: her playful braids were a symbol of something wholesome – no sleek weave or mature pixie cut for her. »

Film Review: ‘The Perfect Match’

11 March 2016 12:12 AM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Romance plus bromance equals slow-mance in “The Perfect Match,” a sleepy ensemble romantic comedy in “The Best Man” mold that starts with one-night stands, ends with a wedding, and spendsd the middle curing a hopeless lothario. An attractive and appealing cast helps this formulaic pablum go down easy, but the genial tone buffs the edge out of every element: The bro-bonding is jocular but never raunchy, the sex scenes never outpace their slow-jam R&B accompaniment, and the hero is never so much of a cad that he can’t win everyone back with an ingratiating smile. The pic’s commitment to likability extends a dozen actors deep in its roster — a game Joe Pantoliano takes the fall, as is his wont — but there’s not much spark to being so relentlessly agreeable. Released by Lionsgate through its Codeblack shingle, this modest production should score modest returns from a weekend or two of date nights, »

Brandy Reminisces on Working With Her Idol and Mentor, Whitney Houston

9 February 2016 1:20 PM, PST | Popsugar.com | See recent Popsugar news »

Brandy Norwood will always be a '90s icon for her hit show Moesha, but one of her most iconic moments from the era has to be her portrayal of Cinderella in Rodgers and Hammerstein's 1997 TV movie. Not only did she hold her own alongside music legend Whitney Houston, but she also made history as the first African-American actress to take on the role. I recently spoke with the star, and she indulged me with a little nostalgia about her experience as a Disney princess - and what it was really like having her idol as her fairy godmother. While the '90s were filled with incredible music, Brandy adamantly expressed that no artist can hold a candle to Whitney. "Her voice just did something to my spirit," she recalled. "I was just so honored to play the role of Cinderella, and then the bonus of working with my »

Moesha Turns 20! Check Out the Amazing Guest Stars You Forgot Were on Brandy's Hit Sitcom

Don't panic. Moesha just premiered 20 Years Ago. That's all. At least Brandy pretty much looks the same now as she did when she played the titular teen, which is also why it's such a mind-boggle when you realize how long ago the multifaceted Upn sitcom—one of the network's biggest all-time hits—was on the air. Upn is no more (remember when Buffy and friends made the move to the brand-new CW?) but fond memories of the smart show that wasn't afraid to tackle some serious issues—drugs, teen sex and pregnancy, race relations and more—live on. And going through the archives, we couldn't help but be tickled when we saw all the familiar faces who were such big deals »

Chelsea Handler Fires Back: Lately's Heather McDonald 'Should Be Scared'

20 January 2016 8:09 AM, PST | TVLine.com | See recent TVLine.com news »

It turns out the only thing more uncomfortable than an episode of Chelsea Lately is life after the late E! talk show.

During a Sirius Xm interview on Tuesday, former host Chelsea Handler responded to Lately writer Heather McDonald‘s recent comments about Handler being a hellish boss. (“I lived in fear, 100 percent fear,” McDonald said. “I enjoyed my time there … but something could happen and my heart would be beating and I’d be like, ‘Is this it?'”) As you might expect, Handler did not mince words.

Brandy’s Feeling the Sweet, Sweet Blues on Her Excellent New Song

6 January 2016 7:52 AM, PST | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

What's this? Brandy's back on TV and has new music out at the same time? That's a whole lot of '90s/early 2000s nostalgia for the first full week of 2016. Shortly after the premiere of her new Bet sitcom Zoe After Ever, Brandy Norwood teased what might be the makings of her seventh album (and first since 2012) with a new solo song, "Beggin & Pleadin." You probably remember Brandy for her rap-leaning R&B and chill-inducing ballads, but never forget that Brandy was born and partially raised in Mississippi. Her new song is grounded in the blues, but, Brandy being Brandy, she's chopped and screwed it with a bit of modern trap (produced by Pop & Oak) that surprisingly doesn't sound tacky. It's as if Hit-Boy remixed "Hit the Road Jack" — you imagine it'd be a total mess, but Brandy's the kind of underrated vocalist who shape-shifts to fit »

‘Zoe Ever After’s’ Brandy Norwood on Feeling at Home on Sitcoms

5 January 2016 11:08 AM, PST | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Brandy Norwood’s new Bet sitcom “Zoe Ever After” offers the modern take on a female role model: A newly single mom, lead character Zoe Moon is trying to be a good parent and start her life over as the head of a makeup company after she divorces (and steps out of the shadows of) her more famous husband, boxer Gemini Moon (Dorian Missick).

Norwood calls the project, which she co-exec producers, her “baby.” With executive producers Debra Martin Chase, Danny Rose, Scooter Braun, executive producer/writer Erica Montolfo-Bura and co-exec producer Elaine Aronson, “Zoe” has long been in development as its star continued her music and acting careers (she was a regular on Mara Brock Akil’s “The Game”). Ahead of its premiere at 10 p.m. on Jan. 5, Norwood talked to Variety about returning to comedies, casting diversity, co-parenting and the idea of starting your life over.
