David Spade Remembers Friend and Co-Star Chris Farley on the 20th Anniversary of His Death
Two decades after his death, Chris Farley's comedy legacy lives on.

Family, friends and fans of the late Saturday Night Live star -- who starred on the NBC sketch show from 1990-95 before embarking on a film career that includes several beloved cult classics -- took to social media on Monday to remember the funnyman 20 years after his untimely death from a drug overdose at age 33.

Farley's friend and frequent collaborator, David Spade, paid tribute to the comedian on Instagram, sharing a pensive shot of his Tommy Boy and Black Sheep co-star with the caption "20 years ago today."

Spade frequently shares throwback shots of Farley to mark significant milestones and anniversaries. Back in February, he celebrated what would have been the comedian's 53rd birthday with a touching tribute.

HollyShorts Offers Oscar-Qualifying Home to New Films From Bill Plympton, Matthew Modine, and Jenn Shaw
The HollyShorts Film Festival has today unveiled its official lineup of in-competition short films for its 13th edition. As La’s biggest shorts film festival, HollyShorts routinely screens exciting new work from big names, while also offering a glimpse at the short film stars of tomorrow, all with the added sweetener of being an Oscar-qualifying festival.

This year’s festival received an all-time record of 4,000 submissions from 65 countries. This year’s lineup include 400 shorts, which will compete for the Best Short Film Prize and Grand Jury Prize, Best Director, among other top categories. The 2017 official selections have been rolled out via posts on the HollyShorts official Instagram, and all of the 400 officially accepted short films that will screen at the festival can be found by visiting here.

Palm Springs Short Film Fest Features Tatiana Maslany, Robin Wright, Ian McKellen
The Palm Springs International ShortFest has announced its program of 338 films with directing and acting talent including Tatiana Maslany, Robin Wright, Ian McKellen, Idris Elba, and Kate Winslet.

The festival, which runs June 20-26, will feature 46 world premieres, 12 international premieres, 42 North American premieres and 16 U.S. premieres from 60 countries.

“Each year, the quality of films we watch for ShortFest keeps getting stronger,” said festival director Lili Rodriguez. “It makes our job of narrowing down the final selection that much harder, but also incredibly rewarding. There are so many unique and strong voices and we’re really proud to champion these films at the festival.”

Former Paramount CEO Brad Grey Dies at 59
Brad Grey, the former Paramount Pictures chairman and CEO, died on Sunday night of cancer. He was 59.

In addition to running Paramount for 12 years, Grey helped transform Brillstein-Grey Entertainment into one of Hollywood’s most successful management and production companies, playing a key role in the development of “The Sopranos” and “The Larry Sanders Show.” He also co-founded Plan B Entertainment with Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston, through which he produced the Oscar-winning “The Departed.”

Grey was forced out at Paramount in February in the wake of several film flops and some $450 million in annual losses at the studio.

Mike Myers may be ready to slip back into a familiar character.

The 53-year-old comedian reflected on the upcoming 20th anniversary of Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, and how his father's death inspired him to create the hilarious British spy character.

"After my dad died in 1991, I was taking stock of his influence on me as a person and his influence on me with comedy in general," Myers said in an interview with Hollywood Reporter, published on Thursday. "So Austin Powers was a tribute to my father, who [introduced me to] James Bond, Peter Sellers, The Beatles, The Goodies, Peter Cook and Dudley Moore."

Austin Powers debuted on May 2, 1997, the sequel, Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, hit theaters in 1999, and was followed by 2002's Austin Powers: Gold Member, co-starring Beyonce. All three films were directed by Jay Roach.

Ed Asner to Receive Lifetime Achievement Honor at L.A. Jewish Film Festival
Ed Asner has been selected to receive a lifetime achievement award at Wedensday’s opening night of the 12th annual Los Angeles Jewish Film Festival at the Ahrya Fine Arts Theater in Beverly Hills.

Asner has won seven Emmy Awards for performing — more than any other male actor. He received five of the awards for the role as Lou Grant in the two series “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” and “Lou Grant.”

Asner served as the 18th SAG president for two terms from 1981 to 1985. He received SAG’s Life Achievement Award in 2002, two years after winning the guild’s Ralph Morgan Award for service to the guild. He was also the lead plaintiff in a 2013 lawsuit against SAG-aftra alleging mishandling of $130 million in royalties and residuals.
