Silent Hill Revelation

Stars: Adelaide Clemens, Kit Harington, Sean Bean, Carrie-Anne Moss, Radha Mitchell, Malcolm McDowell | Written and Directed by Michael J. Bassett

Silent Hill, as a game, was and is a story that looks at the metaphor of the mind and insanity.  The questions it raises are internal to the character you play, they all have a frailty that they must overcome to be able to escape.  To make a film from the series you would hope that the director and writers would look to the games for inspiration not only in style but in substance, they achieved this to some degree in the first film so they would continue this onto Silent Hill: Revelation 3D right?

The Story of Silent Hill: Revelation 3D is thinly based on the third game, amusement part and all.  Sharon was saved by her mother from Silent Hill but is still trapped and her father hides her, »

Silent Hill: Revelation Review – A Vile Butchering Of A Classic Game

2 November 2012 2:22 PM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Rating: 1.5 out of 5 stars

Christophe GansSilent Hill, while thoroughly imperfect, was at least a stylistically faithful adaptation of the popular video game, and continues to stand tall as the most reverent one to date. The film’s modest successes are not repeated, however, in Michael J. Bassett’s (Deathwatch, Solomon Kane) inept, offensive butchering of the outstanding third Silent Hill game.

Fans of the game will be acutely aware of why Bassett has chosen not to just adapt the second title in the series, because Silent Hill 3 shares a direct narrative fabric with the first game, whereas the second – easily the best game of the lot – is almost completely unrelated beyond sharing the same setting. And while the first few minutes of Revelation demonstrate some sure promise, accurately replicating the nightmarish carnival scene from the start of the third game, the overly busy, spasmodic direction continually places the viewer at arm’s length. »

As costume designer for the CBS period series "Vegas," Kathleen Detoro is a big fan of online marketplace Etsy. It has proved to be a gold mine for one-of-a-kind vintage pieces for leading lady Carrie-Anne Moss, who plays district attorney Katherine O'Connell, and the rest of the cast.

"You can search for anything on Etsy," she tells Zap2it. "I've been purchasing from them and there are different antique vendors all over the world ... It's a good thing for the company and the show. [The vendors] will tell you the story behind it and it's more personal and really a nice thing to help the economy and the show and get these beautiful items that we use. And guess what, they were also all made in America. I also like that very much. I feel good about doing it."

Detoro enjoys having a wide range of characters to dress, from regular people to showgirls and gangsters, »

Silent Hill: Revelation 3D Interview – Sean Bean

30 October 2012 5:00 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

As Halloween fast approaches it’s that time of year again when filmmakers see the annual occasion as an excuse to release their latest horror flick, as more often than not, we are subject to lacklustre, unoriginal movies that are about as scary as a packet of mints. However, this Halloween we’ve got the promising Silent Hill: Revelation 3D – and to mark the release of the long-awaited sequel, I caught up with leading star Sean Bean.

Based on the hugely successful video game franchise, Silent Hill: Revelation 3D takes us back to the eponymous town, a place where nightmares are a terrifying reality. Bean plays the role of Harry, a vigilant father to Heather (Adelaide Clemens) who is drawn into the surreal, alternate reality that is Silent Hill.

Bean discusses what it’s like to get involved in the horror genre, and what it is about this particular franchise »

Will Silent Hill: Revelation 3D be Remebered? A Movie Review

28 October 2012 1:33 PM, PDT | 28 Days Later Analysis | See recent 28 Days Later Analysis news »

*full disclosure: an early theatrical screening of this film was provided by Alliance Films. **story lines are revealed here. Director/writer: Michael J. Bassett. Cast: Adelaide Clemens, Kit Harington, Carrie-Anne Moss, Sean Bean, Radha Mitchell, Malcolm McDowell, Martin Donovan, Deborah Kara Unger, and Roberto Campanella. Silent Hill: Revelation 3D is the second film based on a game from Konami. It has been six years since there has been a Silent Hill movie. In this time, the central writer has been changed from the Silent Hill (2006) zealout Roger Avary (Beowulf) to Michael J. Bassett (Solomon Kane). The story has been affected with this transition. While a continuation of the first film, Bassett's rushed script is light on subplots and heavy on a mildly interesting heroic storyline. Visuals and elements of the occult are strongly present, but there is little tension in this sequel. This is a a solid popcorn flick that »

Silent Hill: Revelation Review

26 October 2012 5:51 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

I love horror movies. That’s just a fact. If you follow any of my writings or reviews, I put myself through some trying titles along my quest for horror greatness, and encounter numerous bumps along the way. It’s impossible not to find a film lacking substance, drive, or cohesive storytelling now and then, usually through Hollywood’s mis-conception of true horror, but most of these duds come via Video On Demand watches, which I torture myself with frequently.

This time though, I found a real stinker gaining a nation-wide full release, feeling cheated for watching a film so atrociously horrible, even if I paid $0 for the experience.

Silent Hill: Revelation, I’m utterly shocked by your poor showing. I mean, a horror sequel spanwed from a laboriously mediocre video game adaptation releasing around Halloween for optimal marketing? What could go wrong!?

I’ll get to that later. »

FEARnet Movie Review: 'Silent Hill: Revelation 3D'

26 October 2012 9:00 AM, PDT | FEARnet | See recent FEARnet news »

There have been no less than nine different video games to bear the name of Silent Hill since the first chapter arrived in 1999, and by this point it's safe to say that the Konami franchise has built up a pretty strong fan base for their endless horror series -- but only one movie so far. By comparison, Capcom's Resident Evil, which debuted three years earlier now boasts 23 game releases and seven movie adaptations, if you're including the animated ones, but that franchise offers numerous beautiful women who kill zombies, whereas Silent Hill just has ... the world's creepiest town. The first movie arrived via Christoph Gans in 2006, and while it's a bit longer than any video-game-based horror flick has any right (or need) to be, it still holds up as a rather impressive visual display on unpleasant eeriness.

So how's the sequel?

Not very good, unfortunately, and I say that as »
