#66. Tan Lines - Tim Kirkman It's been a long dry spell of sorts for helmer Tim Kirkman, who presented anything since Loggerheads - a drama that was included at the Sundance film festival back in 2005. His next feature is a long shot of sorts to break the line-up - a low budget tennis comedy titled Tan Lines. Pic stars Dash Mihok, Cameron Monaghan, Kevin Sussman, Alexie Gilmore and Josh Hopkins. Gist: Owen "Game Set" Match is one of the top tennis pros in town, employed by the prestigious Fountain Club, with sun-bleached hair, gimp knees, and tan lines that make the women swoon. But when a history of bad decisions finally catches up to him, he's forced to pick up the pieces of his faltering career at the local Ymca club, where dysfunction is the norm. Chicago – Few Oscar-winning actors have made as many bad movies as Nicolas Cage. His cinematic bombs have become so numerous that one could easily mistake him for a bad actor. Yet that is hardly the case. In fact, his vast number of outrageous gambles outweighs his list of easy paychecks. He’s a performer clearly unafraid of falling flat on his face.
Consider Cage’s work in 1988’s cult favorite “Vampire’s Kiss” or Werner Herzog’s marvelously loony 2009 effort, “The Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans.” In both pictures, Cage’s performance is so bizarre, so risky, so go-for-broke loony that it takes on a sort of grandeur, thus transcending the routine subject matter. When Cage glides on autopilot through a routine blockbuster, he’s a bore. But when he’s given the opportunity to explore a character’s warped psyche, there’s no one more entertaining on the planet. »

Certificate: 15
Running Time: 91 Minutes
Synopsis: As they’re held for ransom, a husband and wife’s predicament grows more dire amid the discovery of betrayal and deception.
Director Joel Schumacher has been on a hiding to nothing since the disaster that was Batman And Robin. The only person to really come out of that failure unscathed was George Clooney (and he was the one wearing those bat nipples!). The likes of Alicia Silverstone, Chris O’Donnell and Arnold Schwarzenegger saw their careers never recover back to the heights they once were, along with the director’s. Nicolas Cage too, has struggled in a rollercoaster of a career in recent years. The Leaving Las Vegas Oscar-winner had huge success with thrilling and enjoyable fair like Con Air, The Rock and Face/Off. That »

Chicago – Joel Schumacher’s “Trespass” represents a new low for the often divisive and (lately) horrendous director of such gems as “The Number 23,” “The Phantom of the Opera,” “Bad Company,” “8Mm,” “Batman & Robin,” and “Batman Forever.” The film is getting a very-brief theatrical release before essentially going straight-to-dvd, leading a few industry watchers to question if perhaps one of the stars had it in his or her contract that the film had to run in movie houses. Unless you have a similar contract requiring you see it, avoid at all costs.
Rating: 1.0/5.0
“Trespass” is an overheated mess, a thriller with no thrills that allows everyone involved to play up their worst tendencies – Nicolas Cage gets a few over-the-top scenes that will surely get more life as mash-ups on YouTube than in the film itself; Nicole Kidman opens her eyes wide and feigns shock in as unbelievable a way as »

To tell you Trespass is terrible feels a bit disingenuous. On the one hand it's much worse than that, but on the other it could be looked at as being so bad it's brilliant. I guess it's best to say it's all a matter of perspective, but I can definitely imagine watching this trash again with a group of friends, having a few beers and loving every minute of it. But you can rest assured I will never watch this mess on my own ever again.
Billed as a home invasion thriller, Trespass begins with Kyle Miller (Nicolas Cage) on his way home to his palatial estate, wheeling and dealing as he drives, trying to do whatever he can to sell some diamonds as we get the impression this is a salesman on his last desperate leg.
At home it's a warm reception from his wife Sarah (Nicole Kidman), but »

The Mortician is on its way in 3D, and if you're a fan of psychologically thrilling horror, you're in for a treat. Former Wu-Tang Clan member Method Man stars in the lead role (looking like a cross between Carlton from "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" and 49ers receiver Braylon Edwards). Grindstone Entertainment has picked up the rights to the film, and a new trailer awaits you.
The Mortician, written and directed by Gareth Maxwell Roberts, also stars Edward Furlong, Dash Mihok, Wendell Pierce, Ej Bonilla, Angelic Zambrana, Judy Marte, Dana Fuchs and Cruz Santiago. The 3D film premiered at the Berlin Film Festival and has been screened at the German Fantasy Fest as well as the Stiges Film Festival last weekend. It will be featured at the New Orleans Film Festival this coming weekend.

Every mystery has a truth waiting to be revealed. Time for a diversion from the usual for something a bit unique. The official trailer for the digital 3D feature film The Mortician has debuted online via YouTube. Starring Method Man as "The Mortician", this indie drama is about a lonely man who gets caught up in some dirty deals with local gangsters. The cast also features Dash Mihok, Edward Furlong, Wendell Pierce, Ej Bonilla, Angelic Zambrana, Judy Marte, Dana Fuchs and Cruz Santiago. This looks like it might be cool to see, despite the odd editing in this trailer; I'd love to catch this at a film fest if I could. Take a look below. Hawaii Five-0 Stays On Course
A couple caught in a rainstorm is lucky enough to find a tent, but inside they find the body of Petty Officer Clay Garcia, a member of Seal Team Nine. The senior M.E. rules Garcia’s death a suicide, but Joe White (Terry O’Quinn), who knew Garcia personally, asks McGarrett to look more deeply into the case.
After some prodding, Max Bergman (Masi Oka) found the blood spatter patterns were inconsistent with a suicidal gunshot. The evidence indicated that Garcia’s gun was placed in his hand and the trigger pulled after Garcia’s death.
“Kame’e” maintained recent episodes’ greater emphasis on procedure, which has made the show’s plots easier to follow. No one believed a Seal would allow himself to be ambushed, so McGarrett, Chin Ho, and Joe White searched the area around Garcia’s campsite while Danno and Weston »

So, how far has Joel Schumacher fallen? The studio behind "Trespass" is forced to reference "Phone Booth" and "Falling Down"--films made ten and more years ago--to try and stir up excitement for the director's latest, the best straight-to-dvd movie to ever to play Tiff (yes, its playing Tiff). Starring Nicole Kidman (how she got roped into this we'll never know) and Nicolas Cage, with a supporting cast that includes Ben Mendelsohn (”Animal Kingdom” breakout star), Cam Gigandet, Liana Liberato, Jordana Spiro, Dash Mihok, Emily Meade and Nico Tortorella the film is about some dudes who stage a home invasion in… »

It was a bit of a surprise when Joel Schumacher’s upcoming thriller was announced as part of Toronto International Film Festival 2011 slate. The Nicolas Cage and Nicole Kidman-starrer was thought to be getting a shoddy theatrical release and a VOD debut, but it now looks like it will get an official bow. We have our first trailer via Yahoo and it looks like something that may have been decent in Cage’s ’90s glory but in today’s age it seems entirely cliche. I’m not sure what Kidman saw in a project like this one and after Schumacher’s recent disaster Twelve, this one stirs very little interest. Check out the trailer below for the film also starring Ben Mendelsohn, Cam Gigandet and Liana Liberato.

In a private, wealthy community, priority is placed on security and no exception is made for the Miller family’s estate. »
