'Wet Hot American Summer' Netflix Series Moves Forward

15 December 2014 4:10 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Seven months after it was first announced that Netflix is planning a 10-episode TV series sequel for the 2001 indie comedy Wet Hot American Summer, E! Online reports that the series is now moving forward. Production is scheduled to begin in January, although none of the original cast members from Wet Hot American Summer have been confirmed to return quite yet. David Wain, who made his feature directorial debut with Wet Hot American Summer, is executive producing alongside Michael Showalter, who co-wrote the movie with David Wain, Jonathan Stern, Peter Principato and Howard Bernstein.

Back in June, Michael Showalter revealed they plan on bringing the entire original cast back, which includes Paul Rudd, Christopher Meloni, Molly Shannon, Michael Ian Black, Zak Orth, Janeane Garofalo, David Hyde Pierce, Amy Poehler, Joe Lo Truglio, Elizabeth Banks and Bradley Cooper. Michael Showalter also revealed that the entire 10-episode series will take place on the first day of camp, »

Wet Hot American Summer Miniseries Moving Ahead At Netflix

15 December 2014 3:50 PM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Continuing its swift domination of the world’s collective free time, Netflix is apparently moving ahead with a miniseries that will serve as a follow-up to David Wain’s beloved 2001 cult comedy Wet Hot American Summer. E! News reports that the series, which will either be a prequel or a sequel to the original film, is set to begin production this January.

Wet Hot American Summer, though hardly seen at the time of its release, starred a ridiculous number of actors who would go on to become comedy A-listers, including Paul Rudd, Amy Poehler, Bradley Cooper and Elizabeth Banks. One would imagine that most or all of the cast members would return for this series, though none of them have yet been confirmed (Netflix also has yet to comment).

In addition to the aforementioned stars, the original film starred Christopher Meloni, Janeane Garafalo, Ken Marino, Joe Lo Truglio, Molly Shannon, »

Wet Hot American Summer Miniseries Moving Forward at Netflix

15 December 2014 3:19 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Netflix has two bona fide original series hits on its hands with House of Cards and Orange Is the New Black, but the streaming service is also very much in the business of “adapting” existing IP.  Netflix gave us the fourth season of Arrested Development, it premiered the fourth and final season of The Killing, and it’s also home to the sixth season of The Clone Wars.  While it continues to develop its own original programming in-house (including The Wachowski Siblings’ Sense8 and a slate of Marvel shows), it appears that Netflix is set to continue another existing property: Wet Hot American Summer.  We heard earlier this year that discussions were taking place to produce a TV series continuation of David Wain’s star-studded 2001 cult comedy, and now word comes that Netflix is indeed moving forward with a sequel miniseries.  More after the jump. DVD Review – Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (2014)

15 December 2014 4:19 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, 2014.

Directed by Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller.

Starring Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Josh Brolin, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce Willis, Rosario Dawson, Eva Green, Powers Boothe, Ray Liotta, Dennis Haysbert, Christopher Meloni, Jeremy Piven, Jaime King, Juno Temple, Christopher Lloyd, Lady Gaga, Stacy Keach and Jamie Chung.

Synopsis:

Some of Sin City’s most hard-boiled citizens cross paths with a few of its more reviled inhabitants.

Innovation should be rewarded. Experimentation should be commended. For those two reasons I’m awarding the second Sin City film two stars. There are reasons to celebrate the cinematic adaptation of Frank Miller’s neo-noir series of graphic novels. They are garish mash ups of old stories and new technology. Visually interesting pieces of crime fiction that expose almost every cliche the genre ever created.

I was pretty tough on the first Sin City. I admired what it aspired »

It was an invite to review a Blu-ray like any other, or so I thought. You get your disc, you take your chances. Sometimes everyone goes home with a smile on their faces, sometimes people go to the emergency room… without any face. I heard from the people that know that a sequel to Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez’s Sin City was in town. Looking for trouble. Out to bust some heads and blow some minds. Sin City and me, we go way back. We had history. Once we’d been lovers but time had moved us apart. So when this new bozo turns up, A Dame to Kill For, »

Sundance Film Festival Unveils 2015 Competition, Next Lineups

3 December 2014 1:00 PM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

A funny thing happened on the way to Park City: The general upsurge of comedians in the independent film world wound up playing a major role in shaping the 2015 Sundance Film Festival program, per fest director John Cooper and director of programming Trevor Groth.

The effect can be felt across all aspects of the feature lineup, which boasts a total of 118 films (103 of them world premieres), but especially among the 16 titles set to screen in the always buzzy U.S. dramatic competition. That’s one of the four juried slates (including U.S. documentary, World Cinema dramatic and World Cinema documentary) unveiled today along with the festival’s noncompetitive Next section.

“There are probably more comedies in the dramatic competition than ever before,” Groth said, citing such titles as “Results,” a romantic laffer from mumblecore auteur Andrew Bujalski, with Guy Pearce and Cobie Smulders as a pair of personal trainers; Patrick Brice’s “The Overnight, »

The Sundance Film Institute announced the U.S. dramatic, world dramatic, U.S. documentary, world documentary and Next selections for the 2015 Sundance Film Festival today. In a statement from the Institute, the festival's director, John Cooper, remarked, "The selections for our 2015 Festival will take audiences on a wild ride of emotional extremes. With approaches ranging from comedic to dramatic, genre to documentary, experimental to short, independent filmmakers are bravely illuminating new opportunities for understanding and empathy.” Festival founder and cinema icon Robert Redford added, "The work of independent artists inevitably reflects the state of our culture »

Paramount Digital Entertainment’s Star-Studded ‘Beef’ Is Now Available

Paramount Digital Entertainment, the studio that previously provided a pair of hits in Burning Love and The Hotwives of Orlando, has officially released its third reality TV parody. Beef, which stars Christopher Meloni as a deli owner-turned-judge, can now be downloaded from on demand platforms. Beef, created by Michael Ian Black, Joe Lo Truglio, and Jonathan Stern of Abominable Pictures, has Judge Judy in its sights. While Meloni's satirical take on daytime TV judges is the main attraction, Beef will follow the lead of other Paramount Digital series by loading up on guest appearances. Lizzy Caplan, Stefanie Beatriz, and Reckless Tortuga's James Pumphrey are a few of the familiar faces who show up across Beef's two-and-a-half-hour runtime. Here's the series trailer, courtesy of Paramount Digital: This time around, Paramount Digital is trying something new by opting for a direct release to VOD platforms rather than online streaming sites

Christopher Meloni Leads Paramount Digital’s Courtroom Spoof, ‘Beef’

3 November 2014 3:37 PM, PST | Tubefilter.com | See recent Tubefilter News news »

For the third time, Paramount's digital studio is looking to strike gold with a reality TV parody. The first two attempts were both excellent; now, it's Beef's turn. Christopher Meloni (Law and Order: Svu's Elliot Stabler, among many other roles) is the star of a courtroom comedy that will combine heated arguments, guest stars, and cold cuts. If Burning Love is Paramount Digital's spoof of The Bachelor, and The Hotwives of Orlando is its take on The Real Housewives, then Beef is the studio's attempt to skewer Judge Judy. Meloni stars as Lou, a butcher who doles out justice from behind his deli counter. Want to air your grievances in front of him? Take a number. Once you reach the stand, be careful not to lose your head, or Lou will order you to cool down in the meat locker. As with Paramount Digital's other reality TV parodies, Beef »
