Chicago – Nothing jars an audience quite like the sudden appearance of a fearsome apparition in a dimly lit room. Even hokey thrillers like William Castle’s “House on Haunted Hill” still manage to make viewers jump from their seats by using this reliable horror standby. “The Woman in Black” has one such moment, but it is surrounded by a murky sea of grim tedium.
This is a sleepy little haunted house picture that proves to be the worst possible post-“Potter” role for Daniel Radcliffe, who was straining to distance himself from the boy wizard even while completing the phenomenally successful franchise. His stage work has given him ample opportunities to take bold risks. His singing and dancing in Broadway’s “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” raised nearly as many eyebrows as his nude scene in London’s “Equus” revival. Yet his screen roles outside of Hogwarts »

DirecTV has released a teaser for the final season of "Damages," and while it doesn't reveal anything about the story, it does strongly imply that however the series ends, it won't be great for Ellen Parsons.
The 20-second spot starts on a rooftop, then quickly descends to the alley below, where we see a phone, a purse, part of a leg, an arm -- it's a debris field, basically. Ominous "Jaws"-meets-"Inception" music plays as the camera pans over to Ellen's (Rose Byrne) seemingly lifeless face. Ouch.
Season 4 of "Damages" ended with Ellen and Patty Hewes (Glenn Close) on the outs -- for real -- and Season 5 promises to put them on opposing sides of a case. The central mystery will revolve around the operator of a Wikileaks-esque website (Ryan Phillippe); Jenna Elfman, John Hannah and Janet McTeer will also figure into the story.
The final season of "Damages" premieres July 11 on DirecTV. »

It's been a long time since filmmaker Eli Roth's last directorial effort, but the hiatus is officially over — and judging by the title alone, the results are bound to be explosive.
The Hollywood Reporter has the news out of Cannes that Roth's next slated to direct "The Green Inferno," a horror thriller about... well, we don't know, actually. The story is being kept a secret for now, but Roth's certainly enthusiastic about his top-secret plans.
"I've had an amazing few years producing, writing and acting, and am very excited to get back in the director's chair. I've been working on this idea for several years, and was inspired by filming in [Chile] and cannot wait to get back," he said in a statement, referring to his recent experience shooting the movie "Aftershock" in South America.

Scott Z. Burns penned Contagion for Steven Soderbergh as well as the upcoming zombie apocalypse thriller World War Z starring Brad Pitt and now he's been hired to work on the sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver began working on the script and now it appears Burns has been asked in to punch up their work or do a complete page one rewrite. My assumption is he's probably working with Jaffa and Silver's original draft, but you never can be too sure. The sequel will bring back director Rupert Wyatt and Andy Serkis as Caesar and is said to be "taking the story to the next level, with the apes on the path to emerge as society's new rulers." My hopes are high for this one. [source] James Badge Dale is joining the cast of Iron Man 3 as another villain, this one named Savin, »

Isabelle Fuhrman is putting on ballet shoes and preparing to face witches as she snags the lead for the remake of the 1977 horror film, Suspiria.
Ballet and witches might seem like an odd combo but that’s exactly what’s going on in the story about a young student from America who travels to a well-respected European ballet academy, only to discover the academy is run by a coven of witches. Furhman was recently seen as Clove in The Hunger Games but she first came to my attention as the freaky title character in Orphan. That movie really didn’t pack much of a punch for me, but Furhman’s performance made the movie worth watching.
Suspiria, which will be directed by David Gordon Green (Pineapple Express, Eastbound & Down), also stars Isabelle Huppert, Albert, Janet McTeer, Michael Nyqvist, and Antje Traue, who will soon be taking on Superman in Man of Steel. »

Ever since director David Gordon Green was out promoting his feature film Pineapple Express, he’s been talking about his intentions to eventually remake Suspiria, long considered Dario Argento’s masterpiece. And now, several years later, the project finally seems to be picking up steam with principle photography scheduled to begin in September of this year. And now we know who will be filling in the role originated by Jessica Harper. It’s Isabelle Fuhrman from the underrated gem Orphan and more recently The Hunger Games. For an actress so young, she’s already shown tremendous promise from her previous work, and she definitely has a similar look & beauty that Harper possessed in the original.
Based on Dario Argento’s 1977 film of the same name, Suspiria is written by David Gordon Green and Chris Gebert and centers on Suzie (Fuhrman), a bright and ambitious American student who travels to Europe »

There's been talk of remaking Dario Argento's "Suspiria" for a while, and now comes word that Isabelle Fuhrman (The Hunger Games, Orphan) has been cast as the lead. She will join a cast comprised of Isabelle Huppert (Amour), Janet McTeer (The Woman in Black), Michael Nyqvist (Mission: Impossible . Ghost Protocol) and Antje Traue (Man of Steel). The new movie centers on Suzie (Fuhrman), a bright and ambitious American student who travels to Europe to attend a world renowned school. After a fellow student is brutally murdered and several other cruel and strange homicides disrupt the once quiet life on campus, Suzie realizes that the academy may be a front for a more menacing organization. Well, Suspiria is shaping up quickly and, against my own predictions, quite impressively. A day after Isabelle Fuhrman (The Hunger Games, Orphan) landed the primary spot in David Gordon Green‘s contentious remake, ScreenDaily reports that several international favorites are also on board the project: Isabelle Huppert, Michael Nyqvist, Janet McTeer, and Antje Traue.
Like the original, Green‘s film revolves around a young, American dancer, Suzie Banyon, who discovers evil, murderous witches at a German boarding school — which makes it easy to assume these new cast members are all part of the institution’s staff. (I’d go a step further and guess Huppert leads the aforementioned witches, while we’re at it.) If I am, in fact, correct — don’t put too much money on it — that mixture of player and part works for everyone, right? Heck, it’s got me intrigued about Green‘s Suspiria, and that »

David Gordon Green has been talking about helming a remake of Dario Argento’s warped ballet-academy-turned-witch-coven horror movie classic Suspiria for so long that it started to sound like a project that was never really going to happen. But then, a little over a month ago, a press release came out officially naming it as the director’s next project. Suddenly the idea that there was actually going to be a new take on Suspiria coming our way looked a lot more likely. And now that the first round of casting on the film has been completed, cold hard reality has set in. Variety reports that the film’s lead role, that of a young student from America who travels to a well-respected, European ballet academy, has gone to Isabelle Fuhrman. At only the age of 15, Fuhrman is an actress still at the very beginning of her career, but many people might already know her as the »

The Hunger Games / Orphan‘s Isabelle Fuhrman to star in Suspiria. In David Gordon Green‘s remake of the Dario Argento horror classic, Fuhrman will play the old Jessica Harper role: an American student who discovers that her European boarding school is a coven of witches. Joining Fuhrman are Isabelle Huppert, Janet McTeer, Michael Nyqvist, and Antje Traue. According to Screen International, Wild Bunch is currently selling distribution rights at the Cannes Film Festival, which kicked off this evening. Also attached to Suspiria are costume designer Milena Canonero (Marie Antoinette, Carnage) and a couple of Green collaborators: production designer Richard A. Wright (The Sitter, Undertow) and cinematographer Tim Orr (Pineapple Express, Your Highness). David Gordon Green penned the screenplay with Christof Gebert, a sound mixer in several of Green’s films. Pure speculation: I’m assuming Isabelle Huppert will have the old Alida Valli role. If so, that’s brilliant casting, »

Hot on the heels of the announcement that spooky Isabelle Fuhrman will headline David Gordon Green's long-discussed-but-now-actually-happening "Suspiria" remake, comes word that several more actors have joined the cast. In a piece about French production company Wild Bunch's Cannes slate, ScreenDaily reports that international treasure Isabelle Huppert has joined the cast of "Suspiria" alongside Janet McTeer, Michael Nyqvist and Antje Traue. This cast is already scary good.
"Suspiria" is, of course, the remake of Dario Argento's immortal, crayon-colored 1977 horror film about a girl (fleeting cult icon Jessica Harper) who goes away to a ballet school that she slowly discovers is run by a coven of evil witches. Since "Black Swan" er, "borrowed" so much of "Suspiria's" plot, the new version will simply be about (according to the ScreenDaily report) "an American student who stumbles on a coven of witches while studying in Europe." Sounds reasonable to us. »
