Christopher Lee Talks Saruman in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

31 December 2011 10:03 AM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is set to return quite a few characters from The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy, but one of fandom's favorites is legendary actor Christopher Lee as Saruman.

While the character wasn't present in J.R.R. Tolkien's original novel, future literature noted that Saruman was quite active during the time of this adventure, and director Peter Jackson is going to focus on some of that history with his interpretation of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

Over the holidays, Christopher Lee brought a special message to his fans, offering some insight into Saruman's plight in this new movie. He also speaks out on his appearances in Hugo, The Wicker Tree, and Dark Shadows.

Check out the video below.

This is what Christopher Lee had to say about Saruman in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

Sorry we missed the second night, but a horrifying stomach flu raced through the McWeeny household over the last 36 hours or so, and last night was my turn to transform into some sort of horrifying Slurpee Machine From Hell.  Now that we've conquered that and banished the illness, it's time to dive back in with a second round of liveblogging our Return To Middle-Earth. Two quick notes.  First, I promise to spell Ian McKellen's name correctly tonight.  And second, I am startled to realize that I remember very little about the way these next two films actually work.  I know I've seen »

Peter Jackson’s “Christmas Treat” for ‘Hobbit’ Fans: A Production Video From the New Zealand Set

[1] J.R.R. Tolkien fans already got a nice holiday gift earlier this week when the gorgeous first trailer [2] for The Hobbit was released on Tuesday, but Peter Jackson wasn't done playing Santa. The director took to his Facebook wall a couple of days ago to promise an additional "Christmas treat" to mark the ten-year anniversary of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring as well as promote the two Hobbit films, and finally revealed his big surprise -- the fifth production video from the set of The Hobbit -- earlier today. (Which I think technically makes it a Festivus present rather than a Christmas one, but we'll let that slide.) Watch the video after the jump. The new video focuses on "the logistics of location shooting," and what insanely complicated logistics they are indeed. I'm sure everyone's already aware that The Hobbit is a huge production, but watching »
