The Princess and the Frog by Ron Clements and John Musker (top); Sandra Bullock, Tim McGraw in The Blind Side (middle); Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson in The Twilight Saga: New Moon (bottom) Disney’s The Princess and the Frog took in an estimated $25 million this weekend, which some say is in line with what was expected while others call it a "soft" opening. No records were shattered, that’s for certain. Sandra Bullock’s football mom came in second with The Blind Side grossing $15.5 million, for a total of $150.2. In third, with a somewhat disappointing $9.1 million, was Nelson Mandela’s rugby dad in Clint Eastwood’s well-received Invictus, starring Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon. Invictus will likely get Oscar recognition early next year, [...] »

There are definite perks to growing up in the Hill-McGraw household! That much was evident during a recent interview with Men’s Journal, when country stars Tim McGraw and Faith Hill debated taking daughters Gracie Katherine, 12, Maggie Elizabeth, 11, and Audrey Caroline, 8, aboard their private jet to New York, for a Taylor Swift concert.
While mom was wary, musing “I don’t know if we can get back in time for the girls’ school,” dad was more open to the possibility! “I’m not saying we should or shouldn’t go,” Tim replied. “I’m just saying we have the option of going. »

I love music, almost every genre. And I look forward to this time of year, with all the music award shows. I watched the Country Music Awards a couple weeks ago and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Country isn't the majority of my playlist but I return to it regularly. I guess it's because it does something to ground a person. It provides keen insight into life and does it in a style that communicates from the heart. The stories and sentiments cut an enormous swath across the cultural landscape, speaking to real people about their everyday lives. Artists like Tim McGraw and Taylor Swift appeal to people in almost every age group; white collar, blue collar; rural, urban and suburban, in every corner of this country and beyond.
That country audience is the one we designers need to "play to" if we're going to broaden the appeal of our best work. »

“Is this some sort of white guilt thing?” one of Sandra Bullock’s (All About Steve) ladies-who-lunch friends asks her Tennessee socialite after she informally adopts a homeless black teen (Quinton Aaron). One or two other small nods to issues of race and class aside, this utterly unsurprising, unchallenging feel-good flick mostly ignores larger social concerns in telling its implausible tale of the wealthy white Tuohys of Memphis (Bullock’s husband is played by country singer Tim McGraw: Four Christmases) who groom their unlikely charge for pro football, whether he likes it or not. Sure, it’s based on the true story of NFL player Michael Oher, as documented in Michael Lewis’s book of the same name [Amazon U.S.] [Amazon U.K.], but there’s not a lot of drama -- you know, the stuff that makes a movie, um, interesting -- in how screenwriter and director John Lee Hancock (The Alamo) chose to adapt that story. »

Sandra Bullock, Tim McGraw in The Blind Side (top); Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner in The Twilight Saga: New Moon (bottom) Starring Sandra Bullock and Tim McGraw as a white affluent couple who "adopt" an overgrown, inner-city black teenager (Quinton Aaron), The Blind Side managed to surpass The Twilight Saga: New Moon at the domestic box-office — Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, bare pecs, and sexual abstinence notwithstanding. Directed by John Lee Hancock, The Blind Side, which cost Alcon Entertainment only $35 million to make, earned another $20.4 million this weekend; its total now stands at $129.3 million. New Moon, for its part, collected $15.7 million; its domestic total is $256 million. The Chris Weitz-directed Twilight sequel topped [...] »

Sandra Bullock's real-life football movie The Blind Side has scored another touchdown - toppling the vampires and werewolves of the Twilight sequel to claim the top film spot in the U.S.
The film, chronicling the well-to-do Touhy family's decision to adopt homeless African-American Michael Oher and help steer him to glory on the sports field, has been second to The Twilight Saga: New Moon for the past two weeks, but now it has taken it's place at number one on the box office countdown.
The movie, which also stars country singer Tim McGraw, made an estimated $20.4 million (£12.75 million) over the weekend to take it's three-week tally to a staggering $129 (£80.6 million).
The Twilight sequel has slipped to second with $15.7 million (£9.8 million) and Jake Gyllenhaal and Tobey Maguire's hard-hitting new movie Brothers debuts at three with a $9.7 million (£6 million) opening weekend.
Robert De Niro's new movie, Everybody's Fine, has become the latest box office flop - it just made the top 10 at nine with a disappointing $4 million (£2.5 million) opening. »

Sandra Bullock and Tim McGraw, stars of The Blind Side have had to play second fiddle to the 90210 of the vampire world The Twilight Saga: New Moon, since both movies opened two weeks ago. But this week the moon has waned heavily, giving the based-on-a-true-story football flick it's moment at center field. The Blind Side took in $20 million over the first weekend of December, pushing New Moon into second with only $15 million. Despite having been in theaters for two weeks already, both movies handily topped out the new competition. Oscar-bait Brothers, which teams Jake Gyllenhaal, Tobey Maguire and Natalie Portman, debuted at third place with $9 million, not bad for a rated-r flick that only has bitterness and dramatic tension, and shirtless Gyllenhaal to offer holiday audiences. Limply marketed Armored bowed in at a depressing seventh place with only an estimated $6.5 million, but that's better than Robert DeNiro's attempt at »

Taking a full year to make its DVD and Blu-ray debut, Four Christmases proves to be as confusing a holiday release in 2009 as it was in 2008. Even if the name “Four Christmases” leads you to believe the film will make for good Christmas Eve viewing, you’d be wrong. Its name begs for a mid-November release but its actual plot makes it suitable for release in any month of the year, because it’s not really about Christmas at all. It’s about a relationship and how spending time with your family and the family of your significant other offers insight into how they’ve become the person they are. The fact that the events of these films take place around Christmas is a fluke, any major holiday would suffice.

Gwyneth Paltrow is ready to remind hubby Chris Martin that she can carry a tune, too. The Oscar winner, who last gave her pipes a workout in 2000's Duets, will be harmonizing with Leighton Meester and Tim McGraw in the big-screen country musical Love Don't Let Me Down, per The Hollywood Reporter. Expect to hear the stars sing their own music in the story of a down-on-her-luck songbird (Paltrow) who tries a comeback with the help of her husband-manager (McGraw), a beauty queen turned singer (Meester) and a gifted songwriter (Friday Night Lights' Garrett Hedlund). Screen Gems is getting into a different kind of genre film -- while still working with Resident Evil and Underworld movies, the outfit is also putting together Love Don't Let Me Down, a country music picture produced by Tobey Maguire. The primary cast now includes Gwyneth Paltrow, Tim McGraw, Garrett Hedlund and Leighton Meester. Shana Feste wrote and will direct, and the story "revolves around a rising young singer-songwriter (Hedlund) who becomes involved with a fallen country singer (Paltrow). As they embark on a career resurrection tour with her husband and manager (McGraw) and a beauty queen-turned-singer (Meester), romantic entanglements and old demons threaten to derail them all." No word yet on anyone's dog dying or truck breaking down, but even money says at least one of those things happens. (Kidding, kind of.) [Variety] After the break, more for Hungry Rabbit Jumps and the weird animated Night of the Living Dead prologue/remake. »

Looks like the famous Pepper Potts will be stepping out of the superhero shadow and into a ten gallon hat and cowboy boots. Digital Spy is reporting that Gwyneth Paltrow has signed on to star alongside country singer and Blind Side support Tim McGraw in Love Don't Let Me Down, written and directed by relative newcomer Shana Feste. The film puts McGraw in a familiar setting as it follows a country singer (Paltrow) looking to pick up her falling stardom. McGraw will play Paltrow's husband, with the two of them, alongside another young star portrayed by Garrett Hedlund, jump starting a tour in hopes of bringing themselves back into the lime light. Also stirred into the mix, somehow, will be Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester as a former beauty queen who presumably is looking to claw her way back to the top as well.
