Halle Berry Will Return to Extant

23 December 2014 3:05 PM, PST | Boomtron | See recent Boomtron news »

When news came out that CBS renewed Halle Berry’s Extant, everyone wanted to know if she would return for a second season. Now fans know that she will. It has been confirmed that she will be back and the focus for the second season. It will follow her character Molly on her quest to find her child. However, she is the only main star returning for good. Goran Visnjic and Camryn Manheim will have smaller roles throughout the season, while Hiroyuki Sanada and Michael O’Neill will not. Pierce Gagnon who plays Ethan, the son of Halle’s character has been promoted as a series regular. No other casting news has been released yet. Fans can expect a summer premier.

This is great news for Halle. We wanted to see her succeed and while we are shocked that she is staying with TV, it does give her more time to be mom. »

New on DVD and Blu-ray

"The Skeleton Twins"

Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig are fantastic as estranged twins with a family history of depression. After a failed suicide attempt, Milo (Hader) goes to live with Maggie (Wiig) and her Golden Retriever-like husband, Lance (Luke Wilson). Although Maggie's life looks perfect from the outside, she's got just as many self-destructive secrets at Milo. Sweet and sad, this is definitely Wiig's best dramatic role to date.

"This Is Where I Leave You"

Tina Fey and Jason Bateman lead an impressive ensemble cast in this dramedy about a family forced together for their father's funeral, and the seven days of mourning customary known as sitting shiva in the Jewish tradition. Jane Fonda, Adam Driver, Rose Byrne, Kathryn Hahn, Ben Schwartz, »

Keanu Reeves and Eli Roth join the Sundance 2015 midnight line-up

4 December 2014 1:00 PM, PST | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Each year, the midnight shift at Sundance belongs to me, and that's the way I like it. I've had some of my most memorable experiences at the festival happen as part of the midnight screenings, and I look forward to this announcement every year. I'm surprised to see "It Follows" there. That's been playing festivals since Cannes, and while it's good, I wouldn't expect to see Sundance use one of the slots for a film that's been seen as much as this one has already. The hottest ticket will most likely be "Knock Knock," with Eli Roth directing Keanu Reeves. I like that Eli has fallen in with Nicolas Lopez and Guillermo Amoedo as his new constant collaborators, and this one sounds like it could be nasty fun, which is Eli's sweet spot. I'm excited about the Kevin Bacon movie, which sounds like a darker, actual-real-world-repercussions version of "Let's Be Cops, »

Woody, Quentin and Al align for Afm

5 November 2014 7:00 AM, PST | ScreenDaily | See recent ScreenDaily news »

Exclusive: FilmNation has begun talks at the Afm on the upcoming untitled Woody Allen project, one of several new titles to emerge on the eve of the market.

Joaquin Phoenix and Emma Stone star in the story that Allen shot on the east coast over the summer about an angst-ridden philosophy professor who starts an affair with a student.

Thus far no Us distributor is attached although regular Allen distributor Sony Pictures Classics must be regarded as the front-runner.

Meanwhile, buyers are also buzzing about Retribution, which marks the reunion of Al Pacino and Brian De Palma for the first time since Carlito’s Way in 1993. The pair had previously collaborated a decade earlier on Scarface.

Relativity International is understood to be in early talks with acquisitions executives on the story of a hitman and a cop who will go to any length to stop a Philadelphia child prostitution ring.

Extant: Season Two Renewal for Halle Berry Drama

9 October 2014 6:42 PM, PDT | | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

The mysteries will continue on season two of Extant. CBS has renewed the Halle Berry TV show for another season. It's believed there will be another 13 episodes and they will air next summer.

On Extant, astronaut Molly Woods (Berry) returns to Earth after a year-long solo mission in outer space. Her reunion with her family is thrown into turmoil when it's learned that she's pregnant. Others in the cast include Goran Visnjic, Pierce Gagnon, Hiroyuki Sanada, Camryn Manheim, Grace Gummer, and Michael O'Neill.

Though the show's ratings were underwhelming -- especially considering Berry is a feature film star -- it's believed that Extant is being produced under a similar model as Under the Dome. Episodes of that show are profitable before they even air, thanks to deals with Amazon and overseas distributors. CBS execs also supposedly like the prestige of having a TV »

Extant: Cancel or Keep the Halle Berry Series?

4 September 2014 12:24 AM, PDT | | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

Last summer, CBS found ratings success with new series Under the Dome. This summer, they introduced Extant, a sci-fi series starring Halle Berry. Has it been a hit as well? Will the series be renewed for a second season or will it be cancelled instead?

On Extant, astronaut Molly Woods (Berry) returns to Earth after a year-long solo mission in outer space. Her reunion with her family is thrown into turmoil when it's learned that she's pregnant. Others in the cast include Goran Visnjic, Pierce Gagnon, Hiroyuki Sanada, Camryn Manheim, Grace Gummer, and Michael O'Neill.

Debuting on July 9th, the series got off to a decent start and attracted a 1.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.58 million viewers. In week two, the ratings saw a moderate decline which is not unexpected for a new series. Unfortunately, the numbers took a big dip »

Specialty Box Office Preview: ‘The Trip To Italy’, ‘Frank’, ‘Jealousy’, ‘Life After Beth’, ‘Fort McCoy’

14 August 2014 6:29 PM, PDT | Deadline New York | See recent Deadline New York news »

In this weekend’s specialty box-office debuts, IFC Films hopes to replicate the critical and commercial success of Michael Winterbottom’s first amusing little travelogue/talker of a feature, The Trip, with a semi-sequel, The Trip To Italy. The second Trip again stars Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon; the entertainingly garrulous pair on yet another jaunt across restaurants, countryside and philosophy. The latest Trip will bow in NYC and La this weekend after a successful Australian run earlier this summer (or their winter).

Frank, a British-Irish-American drama from Magnolia Pictures featuring Michael Fassbender that had runs at Sundance and SXSW, bows in only one U.S. theater this weekend. Frank centers on an eccentric band, giving Fassy fans a chance to hear the Oscar-nominated actor sing, albeit from behind a mask (he’s not bad, actually).

Other notable new films include Philippe Garrel‘s Jealousy, which Distrib Films will expand »

Extant: Season One Ratings

7 August 2014 1:38 PM, PDT | | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

It used to be a big deal when a movie star starred in a TV show. Now, they get cancelled just as quickly as any other series. How will Halle Berry and Extant do on CBS? Will it be renewed for season two or will it be cancelled after one short season? Stay tuned.

The ratings are typically the best indication of a show's likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available »
