'It's actually surprisingly charming and more emotionally understated than the material would suggest,' writes AP critic Christy Lemire.

After a seven-year hiatus post-"Elizabethtown," writer/director Cameron Crowe is back in action with his new film "We Bought a Zoo." Based on a true story and the book of the same name, Matt Damon stars as Benjamin Mee, a widower who buys a failing zoo in an attempt to reconnect his family after the death of their mother.
The critical masses always seem eager to offer up opinions on any new Crowe feature, and this time around, the likes have edged out the dislikes, earning the film a "Fresh" rating over at Rotten Tomatoes. Without further ado, let's wander through the "We Bought a Zoo" reviews!

Boy there’s a lot of Shark news lately: the Jaws ride is shutting down, SyFy is making Jersey Shore Shark Attack and now we’ve got an amazing trailer from WoodHead Entertainment for Shark Pool.
The trailer which is quite talented at making you guess the validity of the movie it’s presenting, is supposedly for a Real short film directed by Tony Yacenda of WoodHead Entertainment. The films stars Artie Baxter, Jonathan Lipnicki, Kojo Asiedu, Makinna Ridgeway, Sarah Baldwin, and Suzanne Quast with Sean Carrigan and Dan Perrault. I really got a kick out of the trailer, but I’m wondering if the whole film can live up to the hilarity of the trailer. What do you guys think? Do you like the trailer? Do you want to see the full film for Shark Pool?

Hollywood can be a tough place to navigate the transition from youth to adulthood. Child actors are usually dorky, awkward little ragamuffins. But to be an adult actor, they need you to look like you were sculpted by Michelangelo.
So making the transition from child actor to adult can be nearly impossible for some to whom nature was not so kind. Some actors, like Josh Saviano (Paul from Wonder Years) simply get out of the business. But some persevere and, with a little help from good genes and a personal trainer, become successful actors as adults.
Seeing the picture of Jonathan Lipnicki that Ae recently posted had me thinking about how some boys we remember as looking like this:
Can miraculously turn into guyslike this:
So I thought it would be fun to look at some of the other young actors who have grown up rather nicely. Keep in mind, »

Hey, what happened to Jonathan Lipnicki, that precocious little glasses-wearing star of Jerry Maguire?, you ask. This. This is what happened to Jonathan Lipnicki. I’d tell you you won’t believe your eyes, but if you’ve already skimmed the pictures of Lipnicki’s workout session, courtesy of Caliendo Photography, they’ve no doubt already popped out of your head in utter disbelief and/or you’ve washed them out with acid.
And here I thought Jack and Jill would be the most surreal thing I’d see today.

In case you missed it, Jonathan Lipnicki, who played Renee Zellwegger's adorable son in Jerry Maguire, is all grown up - and what a stud! Though he's famous for lisping, "Did you know the human head weighs 8 lbs.?" to Tom Cruise, it's safe to assume Lipnicki can now bench press a large multiple of that. The actor, who recently celebrated his 21st birthday, shows off chiseled abs and toned arms in new shirtless photos in New York's Daily News. He also has a Star of David tattooed on his left side. An aspiring filmmaker, Lipnicki says he maintains his »

He had us at hello!
Remember Jonathan Lipnicki -- the cute, glasses-wearing tyke who played Renee Zellweger's son in 1996's "Jerry Maguire?" Well he's now 21 and showing off his buff body -- apparently a benefit of the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu he practices.
Photos the actor posted to Facebook show a toned and tanned Lipnicki sporting a pair of shorts, a smooth, glistening chest and a Star of David tattoo on his side.
"I'm ready to come back and I'm ready to work," Lipnicki tells the New York Daily News. "People are always going to have this image of me as five years old so it's my job to work hard, go into the right rooms and blow them away."
And apparently it's paid off. Lipnicki has two films in post-production according to IMDb: "Tag" and "For the Love of Money."

Holy hunk and a half! Remember that adorable little kid with the glasses who costarred alongside Tom Cruise and Renée Zellweger in Jerry Maguire? Well he's not so little anymore. In fact, he's grown up to be one helluva young man... A now 21-years-old Jonathan Lipnicki is showing off his ridiculously ripped bod in a series of recent photos. In the shots, the actor flexes his bulging biceps and rock-hard abs while doing resistance training, lifting weights and pull-ups. He also has a Star of David tattoo on the left of his torso. According to his website, in addition to acting, Lipnicki currently competes in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. "I'm a blue belt, almost »

This Just In: Brett Rattner has resigned as producer of the Oscar telecast after his gay slur this weekend at a Q&A. So we don't even need to link you to Mark Harris's sharp opinion piece about why they should fire him. Good. Let us wash our hands of this one and move on... although I'm still more worried about him ruining Wicked for all time than ruining the Oscars for one year. The Oscars survive everything.
Coming Soon we're going to get a youth-centric fictional film about the adventures of the young Leonardo da Vinci.

I can’t be the only one who opened a link yesterday, saw a bunch of photos of a shirtless guy flexing and posing at some gym, thought, “Hmm, he’s kinda hot,” realized, “Omg, that’s Jonathan Lipnicki,” and then vigorously tried to wash those thoughts out of my 8 lb head. But now I feel ambivalent about my reaction. I mean, he’s Clearly not just “that kid from Jerry Maguire.” He should be allowed to grow up and get a six-pack to rival the Situation, right? I wonder how this makes Renée Zellweger feel.
What’s amusing is that these photos were taken back in May, by professional photographer Ryan Caliendo. But Jonathan just started sharing them on his Facebook page this weekend. We wonder if it was in part an effort to promote Broken Roads, the movie he executive produced (and does not act in), which is releasing its trailer on Friday. »

Remember that little kid who played Renee Zellweger's half-orphaned son in the 1996 Cameron Crowe Sapfest (Tm) Jerry Maguire? And then he was in Stuart Little? And was kind of cute in a weird, gimpy, bespectacled way?

Well, thanks for following up on child actor Jonathan Lipnicki, Michael Musto, and totally freaking me the hell out:
Lipnicki, now 21, clearly underwent some kind of crisis of identity that led him to get jacked as f*ck, probably from being emasculated by his sweet lil' kid roles during childhood. I'd also like to draw your attention to what appears to be a massive Star Of David tattoo on his left side. Intense.

Sometimes, there's a killer in the house and you just can't keep yourself from running up the stairs.
And other times, there's a shark in your pool, but it's 95 degrees out and you could reeeeeeeally stand to cool off. It's a dilemma for our time, a thought that will shake philosophers to their core, and an effing sweet trailer about "beer, bitches, babes and the pool."
Did we mention that it features human head weight expert/professionally cute child Jonathan Lipnicki? You're welcome.

<--- Blog Stage Awwww, tiny cute person Jonathan Lipnicki (Jerry Maguire) is all grown up. Just celebrated his 21st birthday.
Empire file this one under: extremely odd news. Seems that Lynne Ramsay of Morvern Callar and We Need To Talk About Kevin is planning a sci-fi film inspired by Moby Dick. Of all things.

You've seen Jaws and Shark Night, and in 2012 you'll get a movie about sharks that terrorize a shopping mall (called Bait), but first, this Halloween, prepare yourselves for ... Shark Pool. All these ultra hot, horny teenagers wanted to do was throw a really hot, sexy, horny pool party, but then things took a turn for the worse when an uninvited guest showed up. Let us send a bunch of kudos in the direction of director Tony Yacenda, who in all likelihood made this faux horror movie trailer as a calling card in the hopes of showing folks around Hollywood what he can do. It's a fun spoof that looks great and manages to get its hot, young cast (including -- get this -- the little dude from Jerry Maguire, Jonathan Lipnicki, who's all grown up and lookin' fly...

He was an adorable little tyke who charmed Tom Cruise in 'Jerry McGuire.' This past Saturday, Jonathan Lipnicki turned 21. Yes, that means you're old.
According to People, Lipnicki celebrated his birthday with friends and family, including his parents, in Las Vegas. (Of course. Parents are exactly who you pick to party with in Vegas on your 21st birthday.) The group had dinner at Tao on Friday night, then headed over to the Surrender night club. Saturday included a cake and dinner at Lavo.
Lipnicki spends most of his time studying and working out, spending six days a week weightlifting and training in jujitsu. "I live in Hollywood," Lipnicki told the site back in September. "Go three feet and you will run into someone more cut and better looking than me. For me, working out is more about keeping my temperament great. Jujitsu and lifting keep me very even.' »

It's been 15 years since six-year-old Jonathan Lipnicki stole the show opposite Tom Cruise in "Jerry Maguire." And now, Lipnicki can legally get into bars.
Yep, the former child star celebrated his 21st birthday in Las Vegas, with family and friends in attendance to join in on the fun. He tweeted his excitement on Saturday.
So, what has the former scene stealer been up to since his "Jerry Macguire" days? He went on to star in 1999's "Stuart Little" and 2002's "Stuart Little 2," as well as "Like Mike" and a few TV guest spots. Now, he spends a lot of time focusing on weight training and jujitsu, according to People, but is also getting back into the acting game.
He can be seen in this year's crime film "For the Love of Money" and the 2012 movie "Tag," according to the Internet Movie Database.
But staying out of the spotlight doesn't mean the drama stays away. »

It seems like just yesterday Jonathan Lipnicki was telling us "the human head weights eight pounds" -- but this weekend, the little " Jerry Maguire " star turned 21! Lipnicki, who was just 6 when he co-starred with Tom Cruise and Renee Zellweger , celebrated Saturday night at Lavo in Las Vegas, where he was photographed holding a birthday cake with his name misspelled on it. Oops! It was a family affair for the actor, who reportedly celebrated with his parents, sister, an aunt, three cousins and friends. They were all also spotted having dinner at Tao on Friday and partying at Surrender Nightclub at the Encore. Check out more former child stars in our Now & Then gallery above! Read more »
