‘Battle of the Sexes’ Trailer & Poster

(Aotn) Fox Searchlight have released the official poster and trailer for ‘Battle of the Sexes‘. The comedy-drama, which stars Emma Stone and Steve Carrell, loosely follows the real life events of the tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs in 1973, which was dubbed “Battle of the Sexes”. The project was announced back in 2015 with Stone and Carrell attached as the leads. After Stone had some apparent scheduling conflicts, Brie Larson was in talks for a short period of time to play King, before Stone was once again confirmed to star in the film.

The film was directed by Valerie Faris & Jonathan Dayton, and was written by Simon Beaufoy. The project was produced by Christian Colson, Danny Boyle, Robert Graf. Fox Searchlight Pictures has released the first trailer, poster and photos for Battle of the Sexes, starring Steve Carell and Emma Stone. This biopic reunites both actors after having previously shared the big screen in 2010's Crazy Stupid Love. This time around, there is no love lost between their characters, two tennis rivals who decide to settle their differences on the court, in a nationally televised match that would change the sport forever.

What fans don't see in this trailer from Fox Searchlight is that Steve Carell's Bobby Riggs had already won the first Battle of the Sexes on Mother's Day 1973, although it isn't clear if that will be shown in this new biopic. After Billie Jean King turned down his first challenge, Margaret Court, who at the time was the top-ranked female player in the world, stepped in to face the 55-year-old tennis veteran, but he easily beat her in straight sets.

First Look at Emma Stone, Steve Carell in Sports Biopic ‘Battle of the Sexes’
Fox Searchlight has released a preview photo of its upcoming sports drama “Battle of the Sexes.”

Starring Emma Stone as Billie Jean King and Steve Carell as Bobby Riggs, the film will document the tennis players’ highly publicized 1973 exhibition match — which was dubbed the Battle of the Sexes — along with the personal battles they were facing off the tennis courts. The famed competition sparked a global conversation, when at 29, the No. 2 ranked King beat the 55-year-old retired former Wimbledon champion Riggs.

Battle of the Sexes” also stars Sarah Silverman,who will play World Tennis magazine founder Gladys Heldman. Heldman also helped organize female tennis players into a women’s only circuit when they felt they weren’t receiving pay that equaled that of their male counterparts. The Wrap reports that not long before his death on March 24, 2016, Garry Shandling and HBO had reached a deal to bring The Larry Sanders Show back to the premium channel. The report quotes Sony Pictures Television chairman Steve Mosko as saying, "I loved Garry. We were fulfilling his wishes to see the show move to HBO."

A comedy, The Larry Sanders show provided a peek behind the scenes at a late-night talk show. Shandling starred in the title role. Wallace Langham has joined the cast of Rob Reiner’s drama “Lbj” as Arthur Schlesinger, special assistant to President John F. Kennedy and adversary to Lyndon B. Johnson, Variety has learned exclusively.

Lbj” has begun filming in New Orleans. The film, directed by Reiner from Joey Hartstone’s script, stars Woody Harrelson and follows Johnson’s political career from his days as Senate majority leader to his ascendancy to the presidency in the wake of Kennedy’s assassination, culminating in his decision not to seek re-election in 1968.
