So here is a slight change of pace – I'll be branching out into other areas apart from Doctor Who, including film franchises, TV shows and comedies. How's about kicking off with a scary movie series then? Newbies be warned – there are so many spoilers in this article, that Doctor Who's River Song would explode with smug rage.
By the middle of the 1990s, the horror film had seemingly died for good. Just like Dracula slowly rotting away to a skeleton, the horror genre had slowly ebbed away for the past decade or so. Hammer Horror classics from the 1960s and 1970s had given way to popular horror franchises in the 1980s such as Friday The 13th and A Nightmare On Elm Street, but even by the mid-1990s, these had seemingly vanished into the ether. However, acclaimed director Wes Craven along with Kevin Williamson were to breathe new life into the rotting genre. »

Look – let’s be honest here. I own all 6 Silent Night Deadly Night movies. I’m sure most of you do too. I even did a write-up for FearNET breaking down each movie individuality in the franchise (you can read that right Here). With the exception of Part 2 which is a masterpiece that defies words, they’re not very good movies. So while every remotely recognizable horror title has already been remake, I don’t mind a “new take” on this one. I like the killer Santa motif and we need more Christmas themed horror films anyways! So I’m extremely intrigued by whatever director Steven C. Miller has got up his sleeves for this particular remake, which is now going under the truncated moniker of Silent Night. And while some sites have already got some cool exclusive pics of stars Jamie King and Malcolm McDowell (head over to Fango »

Jamie Kennedy Joins The CW's Game Show Oh Sit!
Entertainment Weekly is reporting that The CW's upcoming extreme musical chairs game show, titled Oh Sit! (no, really), has gained a third voice to help sort out the madness. Joining Tanika Ray (Extra) and Jessi Cruikshank (Virtuality) is Jamie Kennedy, actor and former WB prankster extraordinaire. Kennedy will serve as a commentator on the action with Cruikshank, while Ray will act as a sideline reporter of sorts.
Kennedy, perhaps best known for writing and starring in Malibu's Most Wanted, is no stranger to the "fifth network", having had The Jamie Kennedy Experiment run on The WB for three seasons. He's currently providing voice work for Fox's The Cleveland Show and Nickelodeon's Fanboy and Chum Chum, with two films in post-production.
Even though something like Oh Sit! sounds ridiculous, it could be a great move for The CW. They'll be implementing more year-round programming, »

Jamie Kennedy will help to host Oh Sit!, the CW’s summer show that’s described as a high-stakes, high-octane musical chairs competition.
Kennedy will join Tanika Ray and Jessi Cruikshank as emcees on the show, which pits 12 contestants in a race through five physically demanding, obstacle course-style eliminations as they each compete to claim a chair. At the end of the hour, only one contestant will be left sitting to seize the cash prize.
Kennedy and Cruikshank will host from the skybox and call the action while Ray will host at track side.

[This week's "Retro Active" pick is inspired by Marvel's superhero-team extravaganza The Avengers.]
Released before 2002's Spider-Man and the ensuing (and still-ongoing) onslaught of CG superhero spectacles, The Specials is something like Watchmen-lite, with its deconstruction performed not with an incisive scalpel but a feathery sarcastic touch. Unlike screenwriter James Gunn's more recent Super—which bluntly delved into the psychosexual madness underlying masked avengers' vigilantism—his prior likeminded effort is a humorously cheeky affair, focusing on a mundane day in the life of The Specials, the "sixth or seventh greatest superhero team in the world." That ragtag group of do-gooders is led by The Strobe (Thomas Haden Church), a pompous blowhard whose arrogance—epitomized by his fondness for recounting to team members his origin story, in which he likens himself to God—is laced with a melancholy born from the realization that he's woefully low on the superhero ladder. His problems are compounded by the contempt showered on him by wife Ms. »

Silent Night, the remake of Silent Night, Deadly Night, is currently filming and we have some new behind-the-scenes photos and casting news. The Winnipeg Free Press was on the set recently and reported on who would be playing the killer in the movie:
“In the movie Silent Night, the killer dressed as Santa Claus inspires not visions of sugarplums, but something decidedly more nightmarish as he slices his way through the naughty citizenry of Cryer, Wisconsin. The Genre Company revealed that the role of the killer would be played by Winnipeg actor-stunt co-ordinator Rick Skene.
It’s a particularly delicious change-up for Skene, the son of former Free Press theatre critic Reg Skene. Rick was the stunt co-ordinator of the direct-to-dvd horror film Wrong Turn 4 in which his stuntman-actor sons Sean and Daniel Skene played two of the film’s three mutant cannibal villains, Three Finger and One Eye. »
