Look: Baldwin, Other Celebrities Head To Capitol Hill To Press Arts Funding Cause

17 April 2012 12:26 PM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Washington -- Celebrities including Alec Baldwin visited Capitol Hill Tuesday to shine their spotlight on federal funding for the arts.

Baldwin and others including actors Hill Harper, Melina Kanakaredes, Tiffani Thiessen and singers Ben Folds and Clay Walker are part of the artistic delegation for Americans for the Arts. The nonprofit organization works to advance arts and arts education across the country.

Baldwin told a news conference that the arts stimulate children's education.

With about $147 million in federal funding for the National Endowment for the Arts this year, the group hopes to increase funding to $155 million next year.

Folds, who met with Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., to press for funding, credited art programs at public schools for his success today. The musician said the arts provide children with a "well-balanced curriculum." »

Alec Baldwin Drops '30 Rock' News At Press Club

16 April 2012 2:56 PM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Washington -- Alec Baldwin reminded Washington journalists on Monday that he's one of the sharpest politically minded actors in Hollywood during an hourlong speech at the National Press Club. His visit was part of a lobbying blitz for Americans for the Arts, a nonprofit group that advocates for increased federal funding of the arts. But Baldwin ensured widespread coverage by also dropping some key entertainment news.

In between stories from his college years at George Washington University and his Capitol Hill internship in the late 1970s, Baldwin confirmed that he will remain on "30 Rock" through the seventh season starting next fall, although he said that season would be the NBC show's last.

Speculation swirled last week that Baldwin planned to quit "30 Rock" early when he tweeted, "I think I'm leaving NBC just in time,” after finding a crew from the network's "Today" show camped outside his Manhattan apartment. Baldwin plays »
