Good Kill DVD Review

3 August 2015 6:54 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Director: Andrew Niccol

Cast: Ethan Hawke, Bruce Greenwood, January Jones, Zoë Kravitz

Certificate: 15

Running Time: 102 min

With Andrew Niccol’s (Lord Of War, In Time) focus firmly fixed on the contentious and unfamiliar world of drone pilots, Good Kill reunites the writer-director with his Gattaca star Ethan Hawke (Training Day, Sinister), to evoke concerns about the use of drone technology and morality in war.

Set it the scorched landscape of a Las Vegas airbase, Good Kill follows the life of fighter-pilot turned drone-pilot Major Thomas Egan (Ethan Hawke) as he fights the Taliban via remote control for half of his day, before going home to his wife (January Jones) and kids for the other. Perpetually distant at home and increasingly reliant on alcohol, Egan’s psychological strain only intensifies when his team – led by Lt. Colonel Jack Johns (Bruce Greenwood) – is placed in the hands of new CIA masters, unshackled »

Oceana Gala Guest Jon Hamm Is ‘Mad for the Oceans’ and Has No Children That He Knows Of

2 August 2015 1:15 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

“My many talents — one of them is not making speeches,” warned “Mad Men” star Jon Hamm at the start of his amusing address at Oceana’s eighth annual SeaChange Summer Party at Dana Point on Saturday night. “Especially when they’re not written by Matt Weiner. So this could get rough. Lower your expectations. Stay with me… if I have any trouble, I’m going to get Kiernan Shipka up here and she’s going to sing a song — she’s way better at this than I am.”

But the night’s beloved special guest — joined at the whimsical “Mad for the Oceans”-themed fundraiser by his “Mad Men” co-stars January Jones, Kiernan Shipka and Michael Gladis, as well as actors Sam Waterston, Beth Behrs, Aimee Teegarden and Oscar Nunez — went on to disprove his humble speechmaking claim.

Artists have given X-Men's Emma Frost real clothes in a new project

30 July 2015 8:08 AM, PDT | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - Movie News news »

Remember January Jones strutting around in her underwear in X-Men: First Class?

When it comes to the sometime supervillain, that was far from the worst (or should we say 'least'?) of her outfits, but now a group of artists have come together to design actual real clothes a person would wear outside.

Inspired by a recent Comics Alliance article about the unfortunate state of the White Queen's wardrobe, Terry Blas kicked off the Emma Frost Fashion Redesign Project.

"When I read X-Men I'm told that Emma Frost is several things: powerful, strong, smart, a teacher/headmistress, superpowered, and fashionable - and for me, her look does not match that," he told The Daily Dot.

"One of the problems seems to be that Emma has been mostly drawn by men who not only don't know anything about fashion, but don't bother to research it either. They default to 'cheap plastic corset' »

Emmy Nomination Snubs & Surprises: ‘Jane the Virgin’ to ‘Orphan Black’

16 July 2015 9:47 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

True to form, the TV Academy delivered a fair share of shockers with its annual Emmy nominations. Here’s who got shut out — and who got surprised — this morning.

Snub: “Empire”

Fox’s smash hit may have registered with fans, but Emmy voters clearly didn’t fall in love with hip-hop. The show scored only three noms, including one for series star Taraji P. Henson.

Surprise: Tatiana Maslany, “Orphan Black

Proving there’s hope for those who are long-snubbed, Maslany finally won a nod for her work playing multiple characters on BBC America’s acclaimed series.

Snub: The CW

The network just can’t get any respect from the Academy. Despite critical praise and Golden Globe wins, “Jane the Virgin” and its charming series star, Gina Rodriguez, was all but ignored by Emmy voters. The only nod the series earned was for its voiceover artist, Anthony Mendez.

The Last Man On Earth Comic-Con Panel Recap: Season 2, More

13 July 2015 10:00 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

The Last Man on Earth (Lmoe) is a hilarious new show about a man living in a world where the majority of the human race has been wiped out by a mysterious virus. As Will Forte, the star of the show, points out, the title only implies the show’s premise as a whole. If you’ve watched The Last Man on Earth, then you are well aware that there are other characters (not just the balls with faces drawn on them). So maybe a more accurate title would be, “One of The Last Men on Earth,” but such a title would not be as true to the metaphors and themes portrayed in the series. As intriguing as the premise is, some of the key elements of the show that make it so different and entertaining are its humor and its performances. Will Forte and Kristen Schaal are hysterical on screen together and, »

New Deadpool Photos Highlight Negasonic Teenage Warhead

Yesterday, we were treated to the very first official still image from Fox’s upcoming Deadpool film, and now two new photos have been released, courtesy of EW and Empire. One of them features a perfect recreation of a scene from the initial leaked test footage, while the other shows us our first official look at newcomer Brianna Hildebrand as the Merc with the Mouth’s mutant pal, Negasonic Teenage Warhead.

In the comics, Negasonic is the code name of Ellie Phimister, who has the powers of telepathy and precognition. She’s a former student of Emma Frost, who was played by January Jones in X-Men: First Class. Considering the time gap and the fact that Frost appears to have been killed between the events of First Class and X-Men: Days of Future Past, that little detail will likely be changed.
