'Live! From My Living Room!': Running Down the Do-It-Yourself Talk Shows

17 July 2009 1:30 PM, PDT | From Movieline | See recent Movieline news

The old saying is that anyone can get a talk show (e.g. Bonnie Hunt, Magic Johnson) but with the advent of internet broadcasting, a celebrity no longer needs the faith of a network or daytime syndication to host a chat show. Even with Twitter displacing most types of long-form personal expression, there's still a market for simplistic celebrity-on-celebrity internet interviews. Sure, Paul McCartney isn't going to play a concert from the roof of Andy Dick's duplex but there are worse ways to pass the hours at your data entry job.

16 July 2009 10:00 PM, PDT | From Monsters and Critics | See recent Monsters and Critics news

Michael Jackson reportedly gorged on family-size buckets of Kentucky Fried Chicken before making himself sick. The pop legend - who died of a suspected cardiac arrest last month - allegedly suffered from eating disorder bulimia for years. He would regularly eat large amounts of junk food before making himself ill just moments later. Talking about Michael's memorial service, in which basketball legend Magic Johnson recalled a time when the 'Thriller' singer ordered a whole bucket of KFC to himself, a family friend told the Chicago Sun Times newspaper: "Michael was bulimic. It hit me when Magic Johnson was talking about Michael sitting on the floor with him eating Kentucky Fried Chicken. Everyone thought that was a great thing

The Real Michael Jackson Memorial: His Music

A good listen to Jackson's songs can tell more about him than any speech, in Bigger Than the Sound.

It was quite a spectacle, wasn't it? Tuesday's Michael Jackson memorial was — to borrow a phrase from a million lazy headline writers — "Fit for a King," full of tears and testimonials and triple-octave tributes, a once-in-a-generation event that was watched by the entire world (or something like one-sixth of it, anyway). For more than two hours, if there was any other event happening on the planet, you didn't know about it — which is about as fitting of a farewell you can give to the man who taught the world how to moonwalk. You will remember where you were when it happened, just like you'll remember where you where when you heard the news that Jackson had died.

But no matter how

Pic Post! The Michael Jackson Memorial Service

8 July 2009 5:26 AM, PDT | From AfterElton.com | See recent AfterElton.com news

Given the messy spectacle that was Michael Jackson's life, one could easily imagine his memorial service, held yesterday at La's Staples Center, would be a three ring circus. What was surprising was how very subdued and touching it was at times. Some highlights included brother Jermaine's performance of his brother's favorite song, "Smile," Usher's performance of "Gone Too Soon" (the song Mj wrote in tribute to Ryan White), Brooke Shield's tearful eulogy, and perhaps most touching of all: When Jackson's daughter Paris-Michael took the microphone....

"I just wanted to say ... ever since I was born, Daddy has been the best father you could ever imagine. And I just wanted to say I love him — so much."

Of course, the ceremony and its eclectic collection of mourners did offer a dose of the surreal. What other event could bring the likes of John Mayer, Mickey Rooney, Chris Brown, Corey Feldman,
