Here's proof that Michael Jackson was robbed at the Grammy ceremony held in 1988 when he gave such a wow-pow performance of record of the year nominee "Man in the Mirror" that audience members including Billy Joel, Little Richard and Stevie Wonder leaped to their feet, cheering. He lost the top Grammy that year to Bobby McFerrin's "Don't Worry, Be Happy," a bouncy, feel-good novelty tune so popular that Vice President George H.W. Bush tried (unsuccessfully) to appropriate it for his presidential campaign.
The other losing nominees: "Giving You the Best That I Got" (Anita Baker), "Fast Car" (Tracy Chapman) and "Roll with It" (Steve Winwood).
Maybe Michael Jackson didn't really have much hope of winning, since "Man in the Mirror" wasn't up for best song (bestowed to songwriters; best record goes to recording artists). Usually, that's required. In fact, "Man in the Mirror" was his only Grammy bid that year.

Music heavyweight Billy Joel has been invited to join America's First Divorce Expo and Reception. Organizers want the soon-to-be divorcee to participate in the first ever expo for newly divorced Long Islanders.
The 60-year-old "Uptown Girl" hitmaker has announced that he and third wife, chef Katie Lee, are divorcing last week.
Organizers took it as a chance to invite Joel, who will soon be a member of their club, to the event. They will hold a press conference on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at the Harbor Links Golf Club to describe the affair expected to happen at 7 p.m. that night.
The expo will be attended by newly divorced residents in Long Island, where the divorce rate is one of the highest in New York. It will offer various booths that will offer important information and expert advice to help individuals deal with their divorce.

It’s a relatively quiet week for new releases. There’s Regina Spektor’s follow-up to her breakout, a new album from the Mars Volta and the latest from Pete Yorn. But today also sees the release of A Casual Affair: The Best of Tonic.
This begs the question: Huh?
For anybody who didn’t come of age in the Clinton years, Tonic had a big radio hit in 1996 with a tune called “If You Could Only See.” After that, they basically fell off the map (save for a few appearances on various soundtracks to the “American Pie” movies). The set contains that single plus a bunch of other songs that never quite got there. Even if you allow that “You Wanted More” and “Open Up Your Eyes” were “hits,” that’s still only three tunes on a 15-track album. Three songs is an Ep, not a $15 album.

Billy Joel's ex-wife Christie Brinkley has spoken out in support of the rocker after he announced his split from wife Katie Lee.
Joel confirmed that he was separating from third wife Lee on Wednesday following snaps of the 27-year-old dirty dancing with designer Yigal Azrouel appearing in the U.S. tabloids.

Sources reported seeing the pair dirty dancing in Miami, Florida in January and have claimed that in unguarded moments Azrouel referred to Lee as "my girlfriend".
But Joel's publicists insisted Azrouel was just a friend, and the musician's spokeswoman, Claire Mercuri, tells the New York Daily News, "Their decision to separate was absolutely unrelated to Yigal."
