King Arthur: Legend of the Sword has spent a little longer in the oven than initially planned – you know it, I know it and, frankly, Warner Bros. knows it, too.

Once scheduled for July of 2016, Legend of the Sword was then bumped back to February, 2017, where it was set to open opposite Maze Runner: The Death Cure – incidentally, the latter was also delayed to accommodate Dylan O’Brien’s on-set injury. In terms of Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur movie, though, there’s a good reason for the prolonged development: Warner Bros. is gunning for a full-blown franchise, with Legend of the Sword being the first domino to fall.

Charlie Hunnam talks up the tone of King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword

23 April 2017 11:58 PM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

In just a couple of weeks, Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword finally arrives in cinemas. Charlie Hunnam leads the cast of the Warner Bros. film, which debuts on May 19th (U.K.), and with a filmmaker like Ritchie at the helm, it’s easy to guess what kind of tone the film will end up having – a light-hearted though entertaining, fast-edited piece full of set-pieces and witty dialogue. Well, that seems to be the case with the latest version of the King Arthur legend, but it wasn’t always so. Hunnam spoke to Entertainment Weekly in a recent interview where he spoke of the tone.

“It was challenging to begin with because there was an uncertainty about the tone. Guy’s [initial] intention was to make something that was outside of his wheel house, and make a more classic, straightforward, and somewhat somber film – which is obviously »

Arthur and his pals, the tone of those interactions is very much the way Guy is. We were just doing our best Guy Ritchie impersonations.”

Another Poster For King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword Shifts The Focus To Djimon Hounsou

11 April 2017 2:58 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Long before Warner Bros. and writer-director Guy Ritchie settled on the title King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, the filmmaker’s fantastical reboot bore the tentative moniker of Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur.

That was in 2014, when the studio had purportedly drafted up plans for a six-film arc involving Charlie Hunnam’s would-be ruler and his battle to reclaim Camelot from the tyrant Vortigern (Jude Law). Since then, there’s been nary a mention of Warner’s franchise hopes, which tells us that the company has either consolidated that vision into a single tentpole, or at the very least, nudged any and all talk of a sequel onto the back-burner for the time being.

It’s also important to remember that Legend of the Sword has been delayed not once, but twice, and after bouncing around various release dates, Ritchie’s star-studded epic is now smack bang in the »

New character posters arrive for King Arthur: Legend of the Sword

Author: Scott Davis

As the sun begins to shine outside, many film fans are looking forward to settling down in dark cinemas to enjoy the biggest and loudest films of the summer. In amongst the sequels, comic-books and car chases are a few interesting blockbusters including Guy Ritchie’s latest, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword – and some new character posters have been unveiled in lieu of its release.

Similarly to how the filmmaker re-energised Sherlock Holmes with a kinetic approach with lots of action, the new King Arthur film is Ritchie’s attempt to give new life to the legendary story with magic, mystery, action and huge elephants. Whether it will work in the same way remains to be seen but what’s for certain from the first few trailers is that this is unlike anything else this summer season.

Myth Becomes Legend In New Character Poster For King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword

7 April 2017 5:31 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Not only is Charlie Hunnam’s would-be leader the core character of Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword, but he’s also been described as a “little bit of a motherfucker,” which ought to dovetail quite nicely with the director’s modus operandi.

Whether it’s Brad Pitt boxing to Oasis classic “Fucking in the Bushes” at the tail-end of Snatch or Robert Downey Jr.’s Sherlock Holmes solving crimes at the eleventh hour, Ritchie has developed a knack for characters that are, for want of a better phrase, a little rough around the edges. But Hunnam’s hero in the making isn’t the only iconic figure due to appear in Legend of the Sword, as there’s also Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey as Guinevere. Those familiar with the King Arthur lore will know that Guinevere is a key figure in the kingdom of Camelot, and goes on »
